i don't understand all the love this guy gets.  we've consistently had a group of guys who can't get open and now can't block either.  you can point to a guy like gallon who improved, but i can't give him credit for funchess.  he was gifted with height and athleticism.  imo, he is actually poorly coached but makes plays with his god-given talents.

I think the technical aspects of Funchess's game have improved. His route running looks better and his case of the Braylon's seems to have gotten better; he's a lazy blocker, though, agreed. And yes, Gallon also looked great, as you mentioned. As for blocking, have you seen Chesson? For a relative whisp of a dude, he wrecks fools down field (or would if a play ever made it that far).

He was so off the radar that I don't think most people had a chance to seriously consider him.

I heard a rumor on 97.1 the night before the Hoke announcement was made that DB wanted him since November, and everything else was just smoke to satisfy everyone else.  I said "BS" but the next day we got surprised with the Hoke announcement.

And though this is not related to the OP, Hoke did not coach under Bo.  People continue to say that, as recently as last night, but he did not coach here unitl 1995.

During mid season replacements, it is usually too much for a coordinator to become Head Coach and still do what he needs with all coordinator duties.

My guess would be Fred Jackson.  Lloyd guy, former associate Head Coach.  Remember, this is only for the rest of the season and is easier.  If they named Nuss and he did well, there would be pressure to hire him as HC

Here, with Fred Jackson, he is a safe hire.  He knows his place

Not took to happen as long as Brandon is around, I afraid he won't even fire hoke at the end of the year. I expect Brandon to make a supporting statement sometime this week.

Brandon won't fire Hoke until after the season. That's if he is going to be consistent with his principles, wait until after the season, and evaluate in its totality. It's the way he did RichRod. If he handles it differently, (fire Hoke during season)then he's using a double standard, to save his own ass.

I could see either Mattison or Nussmeier taking over as an interim coach.

Since we seem to bouncing different scenarios off of the wall lately.  What about Roy Manning as interim coach??? I know it won't happen, just curious what people think.

He has to go mid year now. This team might only win 1-2 games the rest of the season. You need a mid year replacement to save face and sell recruits, boosters, and the media that things are headed in the right direction. You can't just let it circle the drain every week because you need to give your next coach some shot at success next season.

Need to let go of Hoke now.  If I am a recruit - I know that Hoke is gone so how can he recruit me?

And I would NOT give the job to Nuss.  Has anyone seen his offense?  No wonder Saban let him leave.

Need to clean house and bring in a solid coach - no requirement for a "Michigan Man".

Moeller is the obvious solution, if he'd take the gig.  Experienced, an M man, won't mind being the interim with no chance of applying for the job after the season.

Whether he'd try to put out this tire fire, well, you'd wonder about that.

I liked Moeller as a coach. From all I can tell from afar, he's a good guy. But beyond Moeller's age, him being out of the coaching game for over a decade, and him (potentially) not wanting to undermine his good friend Hoke, why would the board of regents and Schlissel approve Moeller? Remember, Moeller was fired from UM twenty years ago. It was messy.

I mean, if Brandon comes to them and says, "We're going to fire Brady, and I want to replace him with Gary Moeller," you don't think they'd say "Wait -- didn't this university fire him for a drunken public behavior 20 years ago? Why do we want him representing the university? What's to say that won't happen again? You're telling me there's no one currently on staff, who we've already vetted and paid, to do this job for 8 games?" Etc.

That likely wouldn't be fair, b/c (as far as I can tell) Coach Mo wouldn't be risk for any incidents, but you've got to remember regents tend to risk-averse people. I would be shocked if they went for it.

It's a snake pit right now, and has to be a very toxic situation for anyone associated with football in the Athletic Department. We have a coach who has demonstrated incredible incompetence on the field, an Athletic Director whose main accomplishment is to have alienated alums, lettermen, students and fans, and a dumpster fire of assistants except Mattison who probably doesn't want any part of taking over the program under these circumstances.

There's really no option other than to let Hoke finish out the season, after which I hope that the Regents wake up and demand Brandon be fired, not because the team is losing, but because he's an asshole who should not be allowed to ruin Michigan further.

After that, we'll have some rebuilding to do, but the players have talent and maybe someone decent can come in and clean up the mess.

If he rallies the troops and manages games well then he might be an option for 1-2 years, considering we can't get top targets next year.

You need someone who's a viable HC candidate. This way you can still maintain the perception that he could potentially be the long-term coach if he somehow turns this season around. The last thing u want is a "placement" coach who every recruit in the country knows won't be there next season. The unfortunate reality is we'll probably lose 50-60% of this class no matter who coaches the rest of the season. At least with Nuss or Mallory (maybe Smith or Manning) you can still maintain that public perception that maybe that guy could be there next year if he gets this team to play well...if that happens then u can save some of the season and maintain some sort of functional recruiting. If you give it Mattison, Jackson, Carr or Moeller you could potentially savage some of the season, but recruiting would be absolutely destroyed until we hire the next long-term HC. Of course in a dream world the Niners fall to 1-3 today, fire Harbaugh and solve all of our problems for us . Lol

It's time the university took a stance for social justice and hired the first female D1 football head coach.  We could be pioneers (no not the high school).

I think the players probably like him the most on both sides. Plus he is still young and could help him out to being a better coach + I would like to keep him on the staff he is a great recruiter.
