I think it could be a combination of 2 things:
1) Opposing OCs know what is coming so they throw a lot of quick hitters. Not enough time to get obviously held on quick slants
2) When there is a longer developing pass play more often than not we hit the QB or sack. Refs are probably less likely to call a hold if you get to the QB anyway?

RichRod search was it for me too. And I can tell you that now that I just reset my password AGAIN. Makes me long for HaloScan.
|03/23/2018 - 1:50pm||Why||
1) What was wrong wrong the term "ENT" and why did they decide to fancy-ize it so that I can never figure out what floor to go to at the clinic?
2) +1 to you if you spelled that without googling

and was sad. Then you pointed out the missed 44, and I was depressed.
But you missed Speight's '3' so it is actually 234,435. Don't think anyone on this board will make it another 600 years.

|11/29/2017 - 1:47pm||Each is different||
Both of my daughters left home for school and were back after a semester. They also have (much) younger brothers at home and I think that was the hardest part for them. My older son headed to Madison and is loving the freedom. Each is different and they will find their best path eventually.
Now one daughter is at grad school in Iowa and the other is on a grad school visit 1000 miles away at Alabama today. #humbelbrag?
The one visiting Alabama is killing me. She is raised in Wisconsin but I taught her right and she roots for the Maize and Blue. I'm not afraid she will turn to the dark side, but she is my sports buddy and having her leave will be harder on dad than anyone else.

There are varying degrees of readiness.

Wait, we're still talking about mattresses, right?
|10/23/2017 - 2:34pm||How can you do that?||
I can't not watch. Even though I mostly have to DVR I still watch til the end. Maybe I fast-forward a bit. But I could never just not watch when I know a Michigan football game is on.

|10/23/2017 - 2:24pm||And?||
What is the answer? Wife wants a new mattress and she will overspend 100% based solely on marketing. And I HATE having to talk to a salesman in what I know is a huge markup industry. So which one is the best?
Those ones where we can each have our own adjustable side seem very intriguing, but what about when you want to "meet in the middle"?
And thanks Brian for all the mattress banner ads now.
|10/23/2017 - 2:23pm||So you're saying||
I should be happy we don't have EMU on the schedule this year?

And they just beat a common opponent in Purdue. Nothing is guaranteed at this point.
|10/23/2017 - 1:03pm||Can you see the rebuild?||
Losing while growing is something that can be understood. But is there growth or hope for the future at the QB spot? Or anywhere on the O-Line except maybe Onwenu? Or hope that the passing co-ordinator realizes that the young WRs and QB can't run/decipher complex routes and maybe a simple slant or two would help?
Is this the start of a 3 year plan? Because that is what it looks like right now. And that seems kinda crummy when they are already in year 3. And after seeing the coaches get owned on both sides of the ball next year does not seem very full of hope either.

And he did not say it was because Drevno was doing a bang-up job. He said it is because Drevno and Harbaugh have been together forever and Drevno is a good guy.
"I expect him back. They are very close friends... He's here to stay. You can mark my words on it."
But where is his place on the staff? Does he stay as an OC? Guess that means Frey stays to coach OL? Do they continue to split the OL? Do we continue to have a Power vs Zone disconnect between our OL coaches?

and Howard will be back too because god forbid we play someone under 30 in goal

will I get to see Bradley turn around and make a back pass for no fucking reason.
Besides Pulisic I don't think we'll see any of these players in 2022. Maybe Yedlin and Brooks if they stay can stay healthy for an extend time?
|10/10/2017 - 12:49pm||I'm no football guru||
But I read this blog a lot and I think I have things figured out from what I have read this week:
The offense sucks because the RBs have no vision, can't pick up a blitz, fumble and don't drive through tackles
The offense sucks because our QBs can't process fast enough, throw too high with bad footwork, always take too long waiting for the slow developing routes and refuse to throw the easy checkdown?
The offense sucks because freshman wide receivers can't run good routes, don't block well and have stone hands?
The offense sucks because the O-Line is young, does not communicate well or pick up blitzes, and lacks athleticism on the outsides?
The offense sucks because the playbook is too big and confusing, the coaches don't trust the players, the play calls are predictable and the three-headed OC monster is not getting it done?
But the Tight Ends are pretty ok, right?

|10/09/2017 - 3:55pm||Then can we at least||
play to his strengths? Maybe some read-option to slow down the D-Line?
|10/09/2017 - 3:51pm||One half||
I think O'Korn can be the guy, but if the first half at Indiana does not show that then better get Peters some reps before PSU.
|10/09/2017 - 3:42pm||Missing the obvious||
There is another QB already hiding on the field on all special teams plays. Maybe he just needs to run the show on offense too?

|10/09/2017 - 3:15pm||Then why hire Frey?||
His blocking scheme did not match what Harbaugh has always wanted to do. Too many varying philosphies and no one thing that works.
|10/09/2017 - 2:57pm||YES!!!||
Bacause then we can toss McCaffery aside and FINALLY move on to the Malzone era!
|10/09/2017 - 2:52pm||Why can't we run just one read option||

Some yelling and screaming without flailing? I don't watch every single CFB game but I have not seen 1 penalty all year on a coach for going ballistic on the sidelines. Is this rule just a myth? He just seems... resigned? More sad than mad?

|10/06/2017 - 4:48pm||Trying to avoid||
Trying to avoid channeling my inner Texas.
If you win the coin toss, the correct answer is always to defer until the second half. There's pretty much no difference between opening the first or second half with the ball, but if you defer, there's a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny chance that the opponent will be so massively stupid that they will choose to kick off, forgetting that you will certainly choose to receive in the second half, thus giving you the ball twice.
Texas was that massively stupid.
|10/06/2017 - 3:59pm||Question||
Wind in the 4th quarter may be an important factor. plus I want to see Nordin try from 60+ right before half. So how do you guarantee having the wind in the 4th quarter?
If you defer, you may end up having to kickoff twice if you want to choose direction in the second half, correct? I think Ferentz did this recently.
And if you choose to kickoff or receive, you do not get a say in the direction.
Can you choose the direction and then the other team has to choose to kickoff or receive?
I tried googling and found some confusing answers.

Can't he destroy at will since it is behind the line of scrimmage? There is no pass interference in that case.
|09/26/2017 - 5:58pm||Coach is actually firing at SVP||

SVP has always been one of my favorites but this was a bad take.
|09/26/2017 - 2:26pm||SVP said the same||
I usually enjoy listening to SVP, but after the game last night he poked at Harbaugh for complaining about the locker room conditions while refusing to release depth charts until the last possible moment. Jump to the 1:40 mark
|09/20/2017 - 10:28am||The throw in the last linked video||
I'm no QB expert but I think this is an example of results-based charting leading to continued bad form. You and Spath claim it is a great throw. I agree the read was good and result worked out, but to me it is perhaps a sign of why he is not making good throws consistently.
Look at Speight's arm just after he releases the ball. He hears footsteps and cuts off his motion half-way through with no follow through and starts to turtle. It almost looks as if he changed his mind in mid-throw and tried to stop his arm? The pass gets there in this instance but that form looks like it is likely to lead to a floated ball more often than a completion.
The first throw in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEzke7SkK4A is the identical pass you mentioned him missing in the first half. It is a clean pocket with good form and follow through but it misses the target. Is the later pass floated on purpose because he led Perry too much on this one? Shruggie.
