01/25/2016 - 11:45pm Offensive line

Offensive line woes, Quarterback woes, wide receivers woes, running backs has been all but a complete bust, Jake Ryan leaves (RR recruit) and the linebacker play tanks.  DBs are sort of okay, and the D line has been servicable.

Putting aside their stars aside, Harbaugh and his staff worked a minor miracle with the players he had.

01/25/2016 - 10:54pm I imagine

I imagine in many ways it is similar to the airline and hotel industries.  They overbook by a historic percentage because A) They know there will be no shows and B)There quite likely will be stand-bys waiting to snap up spaces from the no shows.

10/21/2015 - 9:09pm No need to play the game

No need to play the game, just ask the players what the outcome would be for each play and then roll a die.

10/05/2015 - 10:54pm Said he was unable to throw

You stated that he was physically unable to throw.  Those were your words and he gave evidence that your words were incorrect.  So why the boo hoo?  Moreover, are you suggesting that Urbs has Miller throwing the FB even though he isn't cleared to do so?

06/20/2015 - 2:15pm x

x.

06/18/2015 - 9:07pm Space Invaders

Worry about footwork or how somebody just beat your high score on Space Invaders?.  Yep, shouldn't have been there from the start, good that they're being removed.

06/14/2015 - 8:50pm So you find the list unimpressive

What's your point?  Is it your point that Harbaugh is unable to flesh out the roster with higher rated players?  Is it your point that Harbaugh is being cavalier?  Or is it your point that Harbaugh is purposely attempting to sabotage the program?  Because beyond that I don't think anybody is in the least impressed with your opinion of the impressiveness of the offered recruits.

06/14/2015 - 8:06am 240 years ago today

John Adams forwarded the motion, which was subesequently passed by the 2nd Continental Congress, to establish the Continental Army.  Thereafter the US Army has celebrated June 14th as the anniversary of its founding.

06/11/2015 - 10:47pm Literally billions

and billions of people don't do it every day.

06/10/2015 - 7:40am Greg Mattison

Looks like G Man has lost some more weight.

It wasn't just hot yesterday it was also quite humid.  Luckily it was a bit overcast for much of the day which helped a bit.

06/07/2015 - 9:45am Sure they're that powerful

You're looking at the culture of football in Alabama through the lenses of the northern culture of football.  I'm here to tell you while they are both football cultures, they are about as similiar as poodles are to gray wolves.

06/07/2015 - 9:35am You have to wonder

You have to wonder about the sports media which was insisting Jim Harbaugh would never leave the NFL in large part because of the recruiting grind and having to build his own roster of players.  Did they get it so wrong because they were regurgitating the NFL line, or did they sincerly believe they could influence his decision by pointing out what they believe he had seemingly forgotten?

06/06/2015 - 9:47am Because

Because there are those that never miss a chance to denigrate the USA and its positive contributions to the world.  They do so under the banner of being reasonable and objective, though they lose their objectivity, in this case about WWII in Europe, by denigrating contributions by the USA.

06/06/2015 - 9:37am In large measure

You're probably correct, though we can never know what would have happened.  If the western allies concluded that there would be no invasion of northern Europe it probably follows they didn't think the war worth fighting.  If the war wasn't worth fighting that frees up tremendous German resources that can be directed eastward.

If a war against Germany wasn't worth fighting maybe some of those German physists in the US, now without a Manhattan Project* to direct their minds, are recruited by Germany.  They show the Germans the error of their nuclear weapon program and it is Germany that first develops "The Bomb."   See how we can play these "what if" games?

*Manhattan Project was a response to Nazi Germany and their atomic weapon program, not Japan.

06/04/2015 - 8:15am Written in January?

That preview had to have been written early in the year before Jack Miller left the team.  Other evidence that it was written early and put on the shelf, little mention of the grad transfers and what impact they may bring and no mention of Ty Isaac.

06/03/2015 - 10:09pm Other than not being qualified

Other than not being qualified, could you name the last player to which Michigan football extended a scholarship offer and then subesquently pulled it back?

05/31/2015 - 1:22pm Left handed

VMart's batting woes were when he batted LH.  That's one of the problems in the Tiger lineup, they have no credible LH batters.

05/31/2015 - 8:57am The Farm System

Far from developing the farm system, he has systematically gutted it.  Hernan Perez is the least objectionable alternative for the 25th spot, seriously?

05/30/2015 - 7:40pm Annnnd

He promptly blows the save.

05/30/2015 - 7:32pm Official scorer is brain dead

Errors are only to be scored for physical mistakes, not mental mistakes.

05/30/2015 - 11:48am That's a helluva commute

Never thought about putting stakes down in Howell or Brighton?

05/30/2015 - 11:41am I reminice

I reminice about my decade living in Bamberg, Germany.  A university town about the size of Ann Arbor with eight breweries; gasthauses, restaurants, and biergartens generally carried the beers from just one brewerie.  Ask for a beer and you are asked what style, not, what brand. No rotating taps, very good beer nevertheless.

Maybe because there is so much bad beer in the US people become snobby about the relatively few good beers that there are.

05/28/2015 - 11:58pm Football movies

Football movies that should have been considered.

  1. Longest Yard (The original movie with Burt Reynolds)
  2. North Dallas Forty
  3. Brian Song (The original with James Caan and Billy Dee Williams)
05/28/2015 - 8:40am Scott Dreisbach

How did his pro-career turn out?

05/28/2015 - 8:38am I'm a bit confused

Exactly what does Griese's pro career have to do with him being the least objectionable alternative for the 1997 season?

05/27/2015 - 10:01pm 99% chance

There is a 99% chance that we've heard only 50% of the story.

05/27/2015 - 9:45pm Welcome to the world

of being over qualfied and letting your prospective employer know as much.

05/26/2015 - 10:09pm He's young

He's young and his priorties haven't yet matured.  Shelter and food, not shelter at the expense of food.

05/25/2015 - 10:33am From today, May 25th

There are 101 days, but who's counting?

The way the Tigers are treking to the bottom, FB season can't get here soon enough.  About 69 days until fall camp starts.  Now that's a number that can be appreciated.

05/23/2015 - 9:59pm Seriously cannot stand
pedantic logicians, it's as if they believe they alone own and define the english language.  Worse, "Begging the question" has nothing to do with the Latin "petitio principii and its reference to circular arguments.  In my mind, as well as many many others "Begging the question" more accurately describes what we mere layman mean about a question being begged to be asked than about assuming the argument is the conclusion.

05/23/2015 - 9:38pm You have it backward

It isn't UM that would be walking away from money, it is that Nike doesn't have to offer UM $4M more than Adidas because they don't need the business like Adidas needs the business.  There is a saying in the world of sales, "Anybody can sell on price point, it takes a salesman to sell the product."  Evidently Nike doesn't believe they should be giving away their product so cheaply.

05/21/2015 - 9:28pm I remember that day

We were sitting about the 35 yd line north of the 50 across from the press box and the play was moving away from us around the south 35 yd line and we heard that leg snap like a rifle shot.  Well, I had my 11 year old with me and he never touched another football after that.

05/21/2015 - 9:23pm He was a freshman when he broke his leg

We can never know how he would have been used nor who well he would have performed had he not injured his leg and the University surgeon didn't botch the first operation and missed the bone infection.  Had he not broken that leg playing against Wisconsin I think it safe to say we would have been saying "Anthony who?" in 1999.  That' s right, I said it, Anthony Thomas owes his NFL career to Justin Fargas' broken leg.

Fargas couldn't "stick around" because the Michigan staff in their infinite wisdom decided he needed to play safety if wanted a UM degree.  What Fargas really needed was time for his body to heal and time to regain his confidence.  Time Michigan refused to give him.  I was sad that he chose to leave, I was glad that he chose to leave to be with those that would treat him like a human being instead of just a cog in a machine.

05/21/2015 - 9:01pm I'm going with Henson too

We can always play "what if" games but the nature of how we lost Henson is what galls me, especially as it was literally just days after he made a public committment to stay at Michigan for his senior season.

05/18/2015 - 10:54pm Obviously

the hockey shirt was photoshopped out.

05/18/2015 - 12:05am Agreed

They said their goodbyes and I think Don would have honored the wishes of the only woman he ever really loved.

05/18/2015 - 12:04am By the way

McCann Erickson was the real ad agency that did the "Real thing" Coke ad.

http://www.coca-colacompany.com/stories/coke-lore-hilltop-story

05/17/2015 - 11:17pm The real thing

So it was Don Draper that came up with that TV ad 40 years ago?  I do so remember that ad.

05/17/2015 - 10:35pm Tear Jerk

Mad Men with a tear jerking moment, who would have thunk it?

BTW, M.A.S.H. is and always will be the best TV series.

05/16/2015 - 9:43pm Juan Gone

Also has to be on the list.  While he was forgettable with Detroit, he did hit a fair number of HRs.

05/16/2015 - 9:35pm I think Sheffield

is the leader in the clubhouse.  As I recall he hit north of 500 jacks.  There is also Darrell Evans.  Not sure how many hit, but he was a fixture in Detroit for a few years and hit his share of home runs.  He even had the most HRs in the AL circa 1986.

05/16/2015 - 2:55pm Hope it stands

With the current delay and more rain on the way, #400 may be wiped off the books.

05/10/2015 - 10:22am Concern?

Should we be concerned about the apparent disregard for linemen, both offensive and especially defensive?

05/06/2015 - 9:00pm Get back to us

Get back to us when the NFL disciplines Aaron Rogers for his admitted cheating with ball inflation.

05/05/2015 - 8:05pm Cheap easy money

Cheap easy money is why tuition continues to rise unabated.  So long as the pockets are deep and lush with cash and there's no incentive for institutions to compete for dollars which aren't scarce, they'll continue to raise tutiion and spend the windfall on such niceites as administration costs.

05/02/2015 - 8:32pm Interesting draft by NE

They were able to draft 11 players only two of which were on offense, a center and a guard.  So it is good to note that Gardner wasn't a second choice WR for NE.

05/02/2015 - 8:26pm Indeed

When somebody says something stupid others are indeed free to opine upon that stupidity.

05/02/2015 - 4:28pm Willie Henry

Is a RS Junior.  The official roster is a bit misleading, you need to click on the player's name to determine his year of eligibilty.

05/02/2015 - 12:51pm WXYZ is reporting

that it was a 4.0

04/28/2015 - 9:10pm I do remember

one year when it snowed on my mother's b-day, but that was the sixth of June.  So yeah, by the 14th Ann Arbor should be in the depths of a summer heat wave.
