Chargers complete interview with Harbaugh
January 15th, 2024 at 4:59 PM ^
I was trying to read into this, but they’ve posted similar tweets for all their candidates for both HC and GM.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
To me it confirms that he actually went and interviewed which speaks volumes.
We need to prepare for Sherrone Moore being the next coach and I think that this has been the plan for sometime.
Harbaugh achieved what he set out to achieve when he arrived in 2015.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:09 PM ^
Priority number one if it is Moore is going to be replacing Minter when he inevitably follows Jim to the NFL. Hopefully there is some Ravens staffer out there we can knab quickly.
Second priority is seeing if we can land Will Rogers
Third is replacing Jaybaugh on ST
Continuity is good for player retention but there's going to be a lot of holes to fill
January 15th, 2024 at 5:48 PM ^
Priority one should be retaining Ben Herbert. Then proceed with your list
January 15th, 2024 at 6:03 PM ^
Agreed, outside of Harbaugh himself, Herbert is the most important coach on staff. He sets the tone in Schembechler Hall.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:27 PM ^
from what I understand NFL teams do not care anywhere near as much about strength and conditioning coaches, so I am less concerned than most about him leaving
OSU's S&C coach turned down the chance to go to the NFL with Meyer
January 15th, 2024 at 9:33 PM ^
This is an interesting point. If I had to guess the reason, it is probably because college athletes are in a physical development/maturation stage and NFL players are more or less approaching or at their athletic prime.
January 15th, 2024 at 10:29 PM ^
I would also be inclined to think professional athletes each have individual personal trainers for S&C.
January 16th, 2024 at 1:25 AM ^
I’m sure that’s still true at a good number of clubs… but slowly things are changing. Tough to know just how fast because NFL teams seem better at keeping progressive stuff under wraps than baseball.
Matt Rhea - half of the high tech duo that made the Hoosiers into Windiana - just completed his second season with the Saints. And unlike the old school notion of letting pro players take advantage of S&C resources on a voluntary basis *every* Saint has to undergo Rhea’s program.

1) looking at the Ravens current defensive staff it’s hard to see anyone that would fit the mold the way MacDonald and Minter did. Maybe there’s another assistant somewhere else with previous ties.
I wouldn’t necessarily get too married to the “Ravens assistant” qualifier. You can go out and get a guy known for running a 3-4 defense (Jim Leonhard maybe?) and keep most, if not all of the same concepts. Keeping the rest of the defensive staff intact would be key to incorporating a new scheme with the concepts of our current one. But from a personnel standpoint, a 3-4 defense is about as close as you can get.
2) We absolutely do not want Will Rogers. Not a fit for what Michigan wants to do offensively, he’s a system QB and air raid QBs tend to really struggle when they enter a more complex system like the one Michigan runs.
3) I’m not so sure JayBaugh would follow his dad to the NFL. At some point you’d think he would benefit from separating himself from his dad and uncle.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:10 PM ^
DC replacements…if keeping the current concepts is desirable…and why not?…how about looking at Elston or Clink?
January 15th, 2024 at 6:22 PM ^
I personally think they’re better off bringing in an experienced DC and incorporating current concepts into the new scheme. If Harbaugh leaves and we promote Moore, we would be running with a first time HC, a new OC, and a new DC. Getting an experienced guy on that side would probably be pretty beneficial.
Are two years in the program for Elston and three in the system for Clink enough to feel comfortable moving forward with this system? I’m not saying it’s a horrible option or anything, just that there are some pretty big risks there while taking on other significant risks with the direction of the program.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:10 PM ^
They’re not taking Will R. He’s an air road thrower. Not their style. They will lure someone in the portal. There will be no shortage of QBs who will leave their current teams to be QB1 at Michigan.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:11 PM ^
I am hoping he's using it as leverage in his negotiations with Warde. I also hope he acted as quirky as possible - maybe he quoted one of Hamlet's seven soliloquies or something...
January 15th, 2024 at 5:23 PM ^
Maybe he even busted out a George Costanza...
"Ya know what's interesting, your quarterback is Justin Herbert, H-E-R-B-E-R-T. There was a QB for the Falcons, Bobby Hebert, no R. I find that fascinating."
January 15th, 2024 at 5:47 PM ^
That’s one of my favorite Costanza bits. It’s just so random. That, and the “ma-newer” thing.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:00 PM ^
Either way, per JUB, the idea that no new contract is currently in place is positively maddening.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
Yeah. They had all year to work on a contract and just started working on one in October and then signgate happened. Warde Manuel doesn't do anything fast.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:33 PM ^
You know this exactly how?
January 15th, 2024 at 6:32 PM ^
JUB is full of shit.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:48 PM ^
I don’t know shit about what’s going on. But, knowing that Jim is interviewing with the Chargers and Jim hired an agent to help with the Michigan negotiations, here’s what I can tell you with certainty:
per MGoGrendel…no new contract is currently in place
Just the same as JUB.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:19 PM ^
Yeah ok. Let's see them match our contract offer.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:35 PM ^
Could it have been a zoom call?
January 15th, 2024 at 6:31 PM ^
Can we text "eating burgers during Covid" to Sherrone while he is having Analysts on-field coach via Zoom? Given my light sensitivity I have to put my dark glasses on and go scout my next eBay vacuum cleaner bonanza. It's my Destiny.
Blaze of glory.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:38 PM ^
Personally, thank you Jimmie for all that you’ve done and a season I can only have hope for.
On the flipside, I’m really tired of wondering each off-season if our coach is gone. Just rip the Band-Aid off and head to the NFL and try and win a Super Bowl. I hope they hire Moore and give him the resources He will need to be successful.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:03 PM ^
Starting to come over to the tired-of-wondering-each-offseason camp. Eternally grateful to Harbaugh for what he's done. Best coach in the school's history in my opinion. But, as they said, mission complete. If he wants to go, then go, and I hope he gets that Super Bowl ring.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:04 PM ^
Where did it say he went out there? Missed that part in writeups I looked at.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:21 PM ^
Also, and I know this is wishful thinking, but I get the sense that Harbaugh's departure will be a smooth one rather than the "peace out"s we see so often (see DeBoer, Kalen)
January 15th, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
Yep- same stuff for everyone they interview https://www.chargers.com/news/all-news
January 15th, 2024 at 5:10 PM ^
didn't know they'd interviewed Frazier, that means there is nothing stopping them from making an offer ASAP
January 15th, 2024 at 5:34 PM ^
They’re supposedly going to interview Dan Quinn this week sometime as well.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:02 PM ^
Friday per some XM show I heard this afternoon
January 15th, 2024 at 9:32 PM ^
So they can blow playoff games like the best?
January 15th, 2024 at 5:58 PM ^
You gotta think that Harbaugh is one of the least impressive dudes to interview. If you’re gonna hire him, do it because of his track record. Unless you really like hear him talking about milk, chicken, enthusiasm, and who’s got it better. I just don’t see how he can do anything except hurt his chances in an interview lol. Love ya Jim, but it’s true.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:28 PM ^
I wonder how his age will play compared to some of the younger guys. It may be a disadvantage compared to someone like Mike MacDonald, who's 37.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:32 PM ^
I hear he interviewed with his brother and it didn't go well.
January 15th, 2024 at 4:59 PM ^
Curious if the chargers posted similar announcements for other coach’s interviews? If not, they could be building fan momentum by foreshadowing JH as coach.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:57 PM ^
Seems like a pretty easy thing to check.
Yup. Yes, they have done this.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:01 PM ^
They tweet out all candidates they've interviewed? That seems weird and not very professional IMO. Go ahead and tweet out all your ex's before you propose to your current partner and see how that works out for you.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:04 PM ^
Yes, they did the same type of tweets after interviewing other candidates.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:06 PM ^
I'd turn it down based on that alone, but I'm stubborn like that.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:47 PM ^
There aren’t many HC jobs in the NFL.
IMHO, those grow men with great resumes are doing everything short of groveling to get that prized job.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:34 PM ^
Braggin' on body count....all the kids roll that way now.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:01 PM ^
I truly hope you’re about 74 years old. Between your comment and avatar that would be hilarious
January 16th, 2024 at 1:57 PM ^
20 years short of, and she's been my avatar for a long time. (the account previous to this one)
January 15th, 2024 at 5:01 PM ^
Jim was candidate #8 to interview with San Diego…
January 15th, 2024 at 5:39 PM ^
Wish that meant something but probably more a product of a CFP schedule.
