If Harbaugh leaves after this season (whether it be from a firing or an exhaustion with the AD to go to the NFL) then Warde's ass needs to be grass as well. Ono has no prior ties with Manuel and would be completely justified in kicking his ass to the curb. Ono could even argue that some responsibility with the "scandals" in the football program lie with Warde.

Once he's gone get someone who isn't in this stupid boys club of "Michigan Men", someone who understands the modern college athletics landscape and who prioritizes big boy football. I'm tired of Michigan's administration handcuffing coaches behind their back and expecting them to compete at the highest level anyways. Frankly its incredible what Harbaugh has been able to achieve given this environment. The next guy after Harbaugh wont be as good of a coach. That's just a fact given how good of a football coach Harbaugh is. Will a lesser coach be able to win at the same level with the same administrative support? What will happen then unless things change? I am not very optimistic unfortunately.

Seriously this should have been expected news.  Everybody needs to settle down.  This is going to be a rough week.  Two steps forward and one back.  It will continue until it doesn’t.

Seriously.

I’m no fan of Warde, but the optics of extending Harbaugh would be terrible. I honestly doubt it’s the case, but what happens if you announce an extension, and then there’s a bombshell that Harbaugh knew? Again, I know this is VERY unlikely, but announcing an extension right now just opens Michigan to more negative PR.

I believe it will let them know we support Jim. The University needs to take the stance and tell the NCAA to kick rocks… With all of the leaks and nonsense with this “investigation” the Administration needs to hold them accountable. PR has taken a big hit because of all of the slow leaks. Start there.

There is a difference between "rescinded" and "hold for a moment while the situation gets slightly improved footing"

I am hoping for the latter.

How quickly “Fire Warde” brigade forgets that beloved Santa Ono stated that he would handle the contract.

Putting the contract on hold is the right thing to do.  And I’ll bet money Ono was the one who put it on hold

I want to start by saying I feel Warde is the definition of an empty suit….

But this take makes sense to me even though I don’t want it to. Ono has to be stressed about keeping up the “squeaky clean” image UM is so obsessed with for PR purposes. I wholeheartedly disagree with this approach, but that’s why I’m not in any kind of political or PR position.

All that said, I think the fan base needs to make its voice heard both in stadium and on Twitter to do everything possible to keep Jim. Tweet @Warde, Tweet @Ono and @Michigan football official Twitter. And obviously do their best to keep it PG.

Just a few days before these leaks happened, Jim said something to the tone of, “you want to be where you are wanted”…almost as if he knew this shit-storm was coming and he was giving Warde and Ono a hint.

I wanted Warde fired before it was cool.

I wanted that useless bag of goo fired after the 2016 OSU game when he left Jim on his own after the game and refused to call out the B1G officials.  And I’ve prolly called for his firing 4,5 maybe 6 times or more through the years.

Glad to see others are finally seeing what I saw.

The irony is that it would probably be very hard to find another coach with the same commitment to culture, players, academics, and the rules while also being an elite football coach.

A PR hit job should not be allowed to win.

If you watched/listened to Isaiah Hole's latest, he mentioned that the Mgoblog community was the driving force behind getting Brandon ousted. I took this as a not-so-subtle hint that it may need to happen again.

Best thing for Warde would be to close the contract with a clause on the outcome of this investigation and put this crap in the rearview mirror and show the NCAA and oiho we are all about US!  This is not rocket science.....Seems like a leader would know how to navigate these types of issues.

The internet is a wild place. If you search Twitter for “board of regents” every single person discussing it since the “rumor” originated is an OSU or MSU fan.

also plugging the Harbaugh scrubbing twitter thing are OSU and MSU fans. I was just on his Twitter the other day, his tweets are the same lol. As if a 59 year old man who rarely uses twitter finds out he’s fired and the first thing he does is delete random tweets or something

OSU and MSU fans are overdosing on QAnon level conspiracies about this whole thing

The annoying thing is that when reality is revealed theyll never ever believe it and will say its a coverup till the day the die because reality doesnt match with the unhinged twitter rumors they bought hook line and sinker

Neither OSU nor UM fans are being rational.  OSU fans are seriously posting about the possibility of the death penalty.  UM fans are dismissing the idea that knowing exactly what plays your opponent is going to run for long stretches of games could possibly be more than a Type 3 violation, and even worse, continue to blame Day for being the source of the investigation, when there is only moderate circumstantial evidence to that effect.

You say that OSU fans won't believe the truth when it comes out.  If it turns out that the forensics firm hired to break into Matt Weiss' computer found all of this stuff, and the firm was owned by a college football fan of some program other than Michigan, and they had their company go to the NCAA about it, are UM fans going to admit that they went crazy-train-off-the-rails in their zeal to crucify Day for something that they had literally zero hard evidence for?

Honestly, the complete confidence with which most online UM fans are denying even the barest possibility that UM did anything seriously wrong, or that Harbaugh could in any way be culpable, leaves exactly the same sickly taste in my mouth as the Trump supporters who believe that he's never done anything wrong and is just the victim of a Deep State conspiracy.  And as I said in the beginning, online OSU fans aren't being any better, as they immediately dismiss any suggestion that this could just be a single person acting alone, or that Harbaugh was convincingly lied to about the way the high-quality signal stealing was occurring, or that the NCAA will determine that UM exploited a loophole in the scouting rules to great success, but is not guilty of breaking any rules.  The utter conviction that Harbaugh is responsible for a severe infraction is not even vaguely warranted by the evidence we currently have available; all we can say is that it's possible, and that hopefully by the time this is resolved, enough facts will have been collected that the NCAA and the Big10 will have complete confidence that they understand exactly what happened.

Reading both teams' forums is depressing, and makes me despair for humanity.  It's one thing to handle a nation of Trump supporters by halfway-sort-of convincing myself that they're mostly uneducated, not very smart, and are the victims of the most successful "propaganda and lies disguised as news" operation the world has ever seen.  It's another thing to see lawyers with degrees from a prestigious institution like UM behave in exactly the same way, just on a different subject.

I'm sorry, but Ohio State is playing Trump in this scenario.  Ohio State is pretending that they can't lose to Michigan unless we carried out a diabolical scheme to steal something.  Ohio State is activating an army of morons on Twitter to shift the venue into the public perception arena and out of the mundane behind-the-scenes rooms where nonsense like this normally plays out.  Ohio State is trying to villainize the entity that defeated it fair and square in plain sight.

I wonder if the Regents' fiduciary responsibility allows them to offer a contract when there's an active investigation.

I think everybody is flipping out for no reason. You’re never going to sign a coach to an extension in the midst of an NCAA investigation, even if you think he’s innocent or telling the truth.

It's so exceedingly obvious that this was a conspiracy to get Michigan to do exactly this -- and dumbass Warde did it

They waited until Harbaugh's extension was announced to release the accusations, just so this moment could happen

Warde Manuel is the worst AD in college sports

October 29th, 2023 at 8:02 PM ^

I know most of us would really love for Warde to give the NCAA a huge middle finger and sign Harbaugh to the highest paying Big Ten contract, and a top 5  overall contract in all of CFP, smack in the middle of this shit storm.  That said, I can completely understand why they would pause it for now, if nothing else than purely for PR reasons.  My hope is this is a pause until things blow over a bit, or even better, we find out this isn't as bad as our rivals hope it is.  Then, at that point we go ahead and sign it.

I don’t think Harbaugh wants to sign an extension right now anyway, but if you believe Michigan rescinding the offer, or putting it on hold, or whatever language you want to use, is going to be just fine with Harbaugh and he’ll be more than happy to sign just as soon as Michigan pats him on the head and says it’s ok, you’re incredibly naive. If Harbaugh decides he wants to stay, this song and dance is going cost Michigan even more money.

I’m beginning to question whether I can continue to be a fan of and follow Michigan football. Watching this program repeatedly punch itself in the dick is gross and uncomfortable. This is deflategate all over again, where the arbiter of justice is public opinion. There is likely little or no substance to these allegations, which will be proved after punishment has been handed out. Maybe I need a break—during the best season in recent memory…

FFS the level of dumbass conjecture on here is absolutely out of hand.

I realize it has been a tough week for us all, but until you actually know what is going on, perhaps it is best not to go off half cocked and spew feces in every direction?

We have no idea what is transpiring with Harbaugh's contract extension. All we know it is isn't done yet.

For all we know, Harbaugh doesn't want to come back next year or the year after and Warde is trying super hard to get him for 3-5 years instead.

Maybe they want to hold off on signing it because they can adjust the comp to cover any and all fines that might be levied against him or in some other way make life easier by carving out exceptions in any language regarding moral turpitude that can make it harder for the people that are out to get him to actually do so.

Maaaaybe they are trying to make it so that there is better cover for the people that JH has around the program to help him avoid some of the mishaps that have occurred recently with Schembechler and Stalions.

Or....any one of a thousand other scenarios.

You don't know....if you have verified details beyond "Fire Ward!" let's hear them, but if not, STFU until you do.

Seriously, it's insane. I very much want Harbaugh retained, he's the best coach Michigan has ever had, IMO. But goddamn, people need to chill and get some actual facts. People can't even correctly read clearly written articles, yet react to those misreadings with all of... this. Insanity.
