So UM #3 behind Georgia and Ohio?
October 15th, 2022 at 7:48 PM ^
I wouldn’t be surprised if we drop.
Ed: In seriousness it will be #1 Georgia, #2 Ohio State, # 3 Tennessee, #4 Michigan, #5 Alabama, # 6 Clemson (pending Clemson’s results)
October 15th, 2022 at 8:12 PM ^
I don’t see any basis for Michigan to leap frog back over Clemson if Clemson wins at FSU. I didn’t really think they should’ve moved ahead in the first place but now that they are there I don’t think we will move back in front of them if they win.
October 15th, 2022 at 9:34 PM ^
So you don’t think Michigan demolishing a top 10 opponent warrants moving back ahead of a comparison that had the two teams almost dead even…
Clemson moved ahead after a 28 point win over 2-4 BC and Michigan beat IU by 21… but a top 10 blowout for Michigan doesn’t move the needle…
October 15th, 2022 at 9:47 PM ^
Ok. The voters put Clemson ahead of Michigan last week. I didn’t agree with it but they did. You think the pollsters are going to move Clemson down after a hamblasting of Florida State on the road? I don’t. I just don’t.
The rankings don’t matter though only the playoff rankings do. And is anybody else getting uncomfortable that even an undefeated Michigan could get left out? I am not liking the Tennessee/Alabama/Georgia trifecta developing right now.
Lastly, could ND fire this guy after one year? They really suck.
October 15th, 2022 at 11:56 PM ^
I wouldn't be surprised if pollsters did either of those things and you're right the polls don't really matter except the CFP.
Clemson does seem to have surprisingly garnered some media support even though they play in a weak ass ACC. Looking at their schedule there's no remaining opponent that seems likely to knock them off.
October 18th, 2022 at 5:15 PM ^
move Clemson down after a hamblasting of Florida State on the road?
Clemson won by 6 and was outgained by 90 yards. Not sure if you know what a “ham blasting” is, but that was NOT it
October 15th, 2022 at 7:50 PM ^
Unfortunately Tennessee will leapfrog us. SEC bias. Last thing we needed.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
But Bama will drop below us.
I'm not sure I get the logic.
Bama and Tennessee just swap spots.
October 15th, 2022 at 9:33 PM ^
The very most bestest part of bama's L was that they had 1st down around the Tennessee 30 with ~1 minute left & 2 TOs.
But rather than run clock and work for a few extra yds, they threw 3 straight times, stopping the clock & leaving the FG attempt at ~49 yds.
So when they missed Tennessee still had ~20 seconds left. And they executed beautifully! So whether Tennessee leapfrogs M or not in the next poll, they still have to play Uga & that winner likely faces bama in a must win for Saban.
It was a delightful outcome all around!
October 15th, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
I think it will be 1 Georgia 2 Ohio State 3 Michigan 4 Tennessee 5 Clemson
October 15th, 2022 at 8:09 PM ^
Generally that's how pollsters work.
Especially since we beat #10.
If we played MSU, we get jumped, but PSU should get us up to #3.
Thanks, Frames Janklin.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:45 PM ^
And we beat the shit out of #10, while Tennessee's game was much closer (though Alabama is a significantly better team than Penn State).
Hard to see us falling for obliterating a top 10 opponent but so it goes. At this point it probably all comes down to Thanksgiving weekend.
October 15th, 2022 at 10:10 PM ^
Correct imho. Michigan had a very impressive win today, overcoming some adversity, dominating and steamrolling PSU. Clemson had to go OT to edge Wake Forest and struggled with NC State in the only 2 good teams they have played so far.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:42 PM ^
That was fun. That ending FG looked like it might have been tipped ever so slightly. The ball doesn't move like that normally.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:56 PM ^
You’ve never witnessed me trying to kick a field goal.
October 15th, 2022 at 9:41 PM ^
#47 got his right pinky on it. Needed two fingers unfortunately.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:44 PM ^
So AP will be UGa, OSU, Tenn, Clemson, Alabama, UM
October 15th, 2022 at 7:47 PM ^
This is hilarious and probably true.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
PSU will also fall to receiving votes because of how thoroughly UM beat them.
Honestly, Alabama is a couple of plays away from being 3-3 on the year, not that the voters will ever notice or care.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:47 PM ^
Penn State will land around 20 is my guess. They won't fall too far, because honestly things get pretty bleak after about #6 in the polls. CFB looks unusually equitable this year.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
No, no, no. I’m pretty sure there’s a law that Alabama can’t fall out of the Top 3 if they get at least 1 win in a season. UT will be #4 (see above). UGA will be #1 (OSU had a lackluster bye week). Clemson will be #5 because the AP voters can’t have 2 B1G teams in the Top 5 for this many consecutive weeks, which means Michigan drops to #6. I don’t make the rules.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:18 PM ^
It's just written in the NCAA bylaws.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:44 PM ^
Georgia and Tennessee should be fun
October 15th, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
Glad to see Bama lose, though this hurts everyone else's playoff chances since the committee will almost assuredly include Bama + SEC champ (if it's not Bama)
October 15th, 2022 at 7:52 PM ^
Unless Bama loses again which is likely
October 15th, 2022 at 7:57 PM ^
Ironically since Tennessee is in the East, this game hardly matters. Bama is still in the driver’s seat for the West. It does ensure that if Bama loses to Ole Miss or loses the SECCG, they’re out. But if UGA beats UT and Bama wins out, it’s basically the same situation as last year.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:51 PM ^
Gary (I Love Bama) Danielson said that at the end of the Tenn-Bama broadcast.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
Alabama is not itself this year, I think the committee will see that and place the teams in justifiable spots.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:49 PM ^
Yes. The signs have been there all year. Bama is mortal. They bleed. It's pretty widely known at this point.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
Sparty wins in OT
Stanfurd v ND - meteor game
My guess is
1. UGA
2. AN ohio state
3. Clemson (assuming they win)
4. Michigan
5. TN
October 15th, 2022 at 7:47 PM ^
Unfortunately Tenn will jump UM SEC bias
October 16th, 2022 at 2:02 AM ^
Can I just say, as an A2 native from a multi-generation M family, that if last year's CFP didn't justify "$EC bias" for some of us - what possibly could?!
Michigan was the 3rd best team in the country in 2021 - but separated by a chasm from the top 2.
I'm not crying about $EC bias - it's earned!
October 15th, 2022 at 7:47 PM ^
I think Tennessee leap frogs us.
Voters love Bama too much to not make the team that beat them an instant top 3
October 15th, 2022 at 10:59 PM ^
“Voters love Bama too much to not make the team that beat them an instant top 3”
This is the correct view of the poll voters mentality.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
I would be in complete shock if TN doesn't move ahead of us.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:53 PM ^
I think we stay ahead of Tennessee. A 24 point win over a top ten team has to count for something.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:28 PM ^
that was my thought. Clemson is already ahead of us and the voters love Clemson.
October 15th, 2022 at 9:41 PM ^
It SHOULD, but like I said, I will be SHOCKED if TN doesn't jump us in the polls. Clemson had no business jumping us after last week, and they were one spot behind us. TN is right behind us and just beat Alabama. Then add in the SEC bullshit, and that's how TN jumps us in the polls and why I would be SHOCKED if they aren't ranked above us.
October 15th, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
Stanfurd v ND - meteor game
Please explain. (You must be a Cal grad.)
October 15th, 2022 at 8:24 PM ^
Yes. Roll on you bears
they lost today :(
October 15th, 2022 at 9:54 PM ^
To previously winless Colorado no less.
October 15th, 2022 at 11:38 PM ^
and that previously winless team has an interim coach …. cal football is perennially abysmal
October 15th, 2022 at 8:10 PM ^
Why would Clemson be ahead of us?
Maybe Tennessee, because they just beat the best team in the history of football* (college or NFL)...but Clemson?
*Gary Danielson's words, not mine.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:48 PM ^
Tennessee game was great, TCU was exciting too. Agreed with above, Tennessee will jump us, and if we looked worse today there would be an argument they would leave Bama above us.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
Huepel wasn't on Frost's staff, lol
October 15th, 2022 at 7:52 PM ^
Notre Dame already down 7 at home to Stanford.
October 15th, 2022 at 7:53 PM ^
Huepel came after Frost.
October 15th, 2022 at 9:30 PM ^
That was courteous of him...
October 15th, 2022 at 7:53 PM ^
I’d still like to know just where these rednecks think they’re going to go with those goalposts. They’re just parading around the field with them.
