Experiences at Breslin last night

Submitted by MaizenBlue93 on March 10th, 2019 at 4:29 PM

For anyone that went to Breslin last night,  how was your experience? I went with the Maize Rage and we were obviously cheering when Michigan scored and what not so we were probably irking the fans around us.

I had never been to a road stadium before so I can't compare experiences,  but I've never been flipped off, had explicit things said about my family,  etc. so much in my life.

What stood out the most was when I left the arena an MSU fan ~60 years old shoved a hat in my face and yelled "fuck Michigan,  we're Big Ten Champs, you like that?" For whatever reason I entertained him with a response and said I didn't like it and he said "fuck you,  I hope you don't make it back to Ann Arbor."

Weird stuff...It seemed like a mild version of Columbus from the stories I've heard. Did anyone have a similar experience,  or was this likely just because I went with the Maize Rage?

And folks wonder why I commute to that shit hole of a town for work and not live there. That metro area is chock full of inbred mutants that shouldn't procreate, but seems to be the favorite pastime over there. I couldn't give a fuck less about Okemos, Haslett, or the other "nice" areas neither. They're just inbred mutants with money.

I got some typical MSU douche jeers on the way out of the bar last night but nothing I wouldn't expect out of a rivalry game. Shitty people exist in all fan bases, you seem to have met one of those.

Personally I've never really understood the smack talk to opposing fans who weren't my buddies, as we are cheering over kids playing a game that we have no control over. Sucks losing. Sucks worse when you gotta deal with douchebags.

Based on Spartan Stadium experiences, I'd say that most people are pretty nice. But, angry Spartans are noticeably angrier than angry Wolverines. Their insecurity is pretty obvious.

Didn’t go to the game but met a Spartan fan at a festival down in Atlanta. Really nice guy. He mentioned several times that he thought Sparty would win and he hoped MSU kicked our ass, but he had a lot of respect for Beilein and what the program has been able to accomplish over the last 5-7 years. We just both really appreciated how back and forth the rivalry has been in that time, and unlike the Harbaugh/Dantonio dymanic where both coaches have a clear distaste for each other, Beilein Beilein and Izzo seem to really like each other. If nothing else. They hold a very high regard for each other.

Couldn’t expect anything different from a rival fan. Most MSU and OSU fans I come across in a non-game setting are pleasant enough people. Plenty of assholes, of course. But the same goes for our fanbase as well.

Bunch of little bitches, that fanbase. I applaud your restraint OP. I would've slugged the guy.

Their asses are just so red from losing 3 in a row by double digits. And then add in 94 yards from this season.

Your ass must be so red still from the 29, 10 and 11 point ass whoopings. Michigan has won 3 of the last 5, you know.

I know you all like to cherrypick years to ignore the present so I just did. Kind of like you in regards to football. But even that's running out as Michigan Football has won 2 of the last 3.

You already posted that.   Izzo has been outcoached and his players outplayed the majority of the games the last three years.

So far Izzo has outcoached JB this year , who knows about next year.   I have lots of respect for JB as a person and as coach .

Football on the other hand is a different beast.  Congrats on beating another poor MSU team that couldn't even win their bowl game while holding Oregon to 7 points.

Sounds to me like you're the one chapped.

He's here to troll. We have enough of those from our own fanbase on here.

The last thing I was thinking about when my team won the B1G Tournament the last 2 years and went to the Final Four last year was a rival.

That's what makes little brother permanent. They won a share of the B1G title and STILL can't stop thinking about Michigan.

I'm not sure I'm alone finding the opinions of rivals interesting.  A thread titled game experience on a game hosted by MSU certainly is one I'd like to hear.

While that might not be your style, I have no shame stepping over for banter.

In response to my comments you have now brought up football, dick size, and presumed my ass is red.    You are unique specimen.

Nothing is weaker than fans playing the "if only we didn't suck" card. I didn't let Michigan fans do it during the last couple Hoke years or RR years. It's off limits both ways.

What kind of team the rival fields is the rival's issue. When they fail to bring enough to win, the rival proves it's inferiority. The winning side, it's superiority. It's not either winning program's fault the other isn't up to whatever standard.

It's something fans do to avoid admitting reality that their rival is better.

"We played bad tonight" is sort of valid as an excuse. But even that indicates the person making the argument never played competitive sports. Friction from the opponent is the number 1 factor in making a team play bad. In any game and any sport.

If Michigan couldn't hit a shot when it mattered last night, credit State.

Yeah, and I'm sure MSU fans completely discounted their victories over some of the worst Michigan teams in modern history. Get the fuck outta here with that bullshit.

Your username leaves zero doubt you came here just to be a dick. Now suddenly you're trying to act like you're the civilized one and above it all? Again, get lost.

Beilein has a top 10 team without a true point guard, rebounder, or three point shooter.   So his record is luck? It clearly isn't current talent although he has put enough into the NBA.

No, Beilein is not being out-coached.  I do find it interesting that both Michigan and MSU have taken turns in the recent past as the top NCAA team for getting points after a time out.  It sounds like we are comparing two pretty good coaches.  Oh hell, let us go back many many years and note that MSU has won an NC under Izzo.

I was speaking specifically to WD, who seems to be a parraiah even in his own home.

The chart below does not include last yeatsy second round loss to Syracuse but should serve as a nice visual for comprehension.  It looks like MSU made the final four in 2015, which means they are due for a season past the first round this year.

We'll all be here laughing when msu chokes *again* in the first weekend. I'm sure you won't be.

You'll go into hiding like the rest of them did. Amazing how quiet you all were the last two years.

Last time I engaged here, I was banned for using statistics and trying to have an actual non-trolling conversation.

I’m not sure naming yourself “Reality Check 4 Blue” was a particularly good start to things.  What reality?  That MSU has a solid basketball program and is going to beat Michigan sometimes?  Woah, mind = blown.

The Michigan fans who go to RCMB to give opposing “insight” are just pandering for some weird kind of acceptance, the ones that go to troll are typically not regular posters from here, they are just common internet trolls.

There are fans of rival teams who post here a lot, and if they have a take and don’t suck, they fair pretty well.  I think it just looks like you are mostly here to rub salt, under cover of being “reasonable” and people in here can spot that angle from a mile away.

You (MSU) had an impressive season and should be happy about that.  I would not be handing out any “reality checks” until you stop completely shitting the bed when the chips are down in the tourney.

Was also my first time attending a rivalry game on the road. I expected it to be worse than it was...fans on the concourse gave an occasional "fuck Michigan" but nothing personal. When we got to our seats though there was an old man sitting in front of us who was quite an ass as soon as they took the lead. When Iggy fouled out he turned around, flexed and said "fuck you guys, thats what you get for wearing that shit here." But overall, could have been worse. 95% of them were fine.

I have never seen a stadium explode with joy over a player fouling out until last night. Did Iggy murder an MSU player or fan that I don't know about or do they just hate him cause he's white and good at basketball? He's not a dirty player and doesn't even really talk shit that much. Kinda a weird choice of players to despise

Reality Check 4 Blue

Iggy is an exceptional player and has had a few games this year that he engaged with opposing fan bases.  Be it blowing a kiss or other signals, he has turned himself into a villain to opposing fan bases.  It's mostly because he is so skilled, if he were a run of the mill freshman nobody would care.

I sure was happy he fouled out because he was giving MSU their lunch the majority of the game.  He's going to be a bear to compete against the next few years.

Why are we sitting here bitching about a rivals atmosphere when we blew an 11 point lead and got swept by our only basketball rival? MSU fans can talk as much shit as they want, they beat us twice this year when we were ranked higher than them. They are co champs of the big ten and according to most fans we won the national title in December. You don’t raise banners or get shirts because you beat North Carolina in November, but you do winning a big ten regular season title.

It's what Michigan fans do: Pretend to be better than everyone else.

Make up stories like the OP for credibility grabs.

Get the knuckledraggers revved up.

Sit back and watch the bullshit commence.

Anymore words of wisdom, guy who made an account today? That's the general consensus of Michigan State University right? "We didn't see it happen, so it can't be true. Leave Larry Nassar alone, everyone just wants to bring down MSU. ESPN has a vendetta against the sixth most popular team in the big ten"

I wasn’t there last night, but I’ve been to more than my fair share of games in East Lansing in both football and basketball. Sounds like your experience was par for the course. There are lots of bubbas over there who have no sense of decency. My pro-tip is to find a Sparty friend to go to the game with. They leave you alone if you are with one of their own.

Basically America has become one big group of people yelling at other people.

a basketball game between rivals evoking the same is about the least surprising thing I could ever expect.
