Nick Saban the next coach of the Packers? ESPN's Ryan Clark thinks so.

Oh snaps! Nick Saban going to be the next coach for the Packers? This story must be true, because it agrees with the general public's preconceived notion that the NFL is a better place to coach football than at a P5 University, and that the college game is merely a stepping stone to... 15-17. Or not. Here's to hoping that karma rears its head, and the negative recruiting tactics against 'Bama commence!

Thanks, Bird. In fact, i remember seeing something last week about this, saying that Hill and Long were going to play.

I don't know if it is true, but most of the board doesn't want to read news like this. i appreciate it

They are too busy yelling at Diag Blue's many posternames or crying.

Are the publicly owned Green Bay Packers going to pay more money to Nick Satan than the win-at-all-costs Alabama horde?   I don't think so.  This rumor is VERY hard to believe.

The Packers can pay whatever they want. The whole “public ownership” thing means nothing-to the contrary execs will be honored if the Packers win. It’s not like they are spending the owner’s money.

That said once again Saban’s agent floats a rumor to get a bump in salary. He will get it and stay at Alabama. I hope, but don’t expect, the media to hound him for a denial.

In his 20+ years of coaching how many games has he won that he didn’t have superior talent? It’s the Phil Jackson argument. He’s probably the best recruiter in history. But given equal or less talent (Miami, MSU) he has been a pretty average coach.

Certainly could be part of it as he was unable to achieve the same level at MSU and left because he knew he was always going to be second fiddle to Michigan.  I’m sure the success of talent procurement was a mix of many factors including looseness with rules, talent evaluation, salesmanship, proximity to talent, rabid fan bases, winning, NFL success etc.

Actually he left MSU because the East Lansing Mafia pushed him out. I was glad to see him leave, as I thought he was a decent coach, given the talent he had there.

just think what might have happened had RichRod taken that damned Alabama job.

Yeah but look at the situations besides just wins and losses. MSU was on probation when he got there because of Perles. His last team beat us and went 10-2. That team had some good NFL talent in Burress, Duckett, Hill, and Peterson.

LSU hadn't won anything in decades and he won them a national title in year 3.

That’s helps my point, the only year he was any good at State was the year he had a really talented team.  They were about a .500 team at the end of the Perles era and he continued that for the next four years.  He knew LSU was a much easier place to win/recruit and that’s why he jumped ship on a 10-2 Spartan team.  He was smart in that way, he knew talent was more important than scheme.  But if he goes back to the NFL I think he will get similar results as the last time.

Honestly, how much more does he have to prove in the college game? He would start out with a franchise quarterback AND you get the Lion's twice a year. AND CHEESE!!

Wrong again M-Dog. As any Stern listener would know Rickles is Stern’s hero. Their interactions were seldom on-air, and the times they met Stern was completely respectful. I don’t know where you got this one, especially the “I saw it” comment.

I never heard anything like it.

It was on the Stern radio show, early '90s, WJFK in DC.  I won't repeat what Rickles said on here - some would be offended - but it stopped Stern in his tracks.  It was a put-down after Howard was mouthing off, not just friendly banter.

"Real recognize Real" if you will, so it's not like Stern stormed off the show or anything.  They continued the segment, but it changed the direction of it.  Much more equal footing after that.

Nick Saban the next coach of the Packers? ESPN's Ryan Clark thinks so.

No, Ryan Clark doesn't actually think so.

He's just asking a rhetorical question in an article he wrote: "Could the Packers lure Nick Saban away from Alabama?"

He says he thinks they should try, but then admits that he has no info, just that he thinks it would be a good idea.

There is nothing there, just a guy quoting himself.

This is the worst possible kind of so called "journalism".  It's pure gratuitous trash to scam for clicks.

And it makes me doubly mad since it just made me take Saban's side of an argument.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.  He may be bored.  And people exaggerate his "failure" in the NFL.  He coached two seasons and went 15-17 with one the worst franchises in the NFL.

There are two facts about Saban

1) his Alabama teams are always the more talented

2) his Alabama team always shows up prepared.

The first is recruiting related, but the second is because he’s a good coach. He basically never has “wtf are they doing” moments. Compare that to Michigan. It’s not a favorable comparison.
