Fuck Urban!

If you throw your AD under the bus you know there is going to be employment karma.

Gordon Gee says hi.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! LMAO!!!!
December 4th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
Probably not the note he wanted to go out on.
December 4th, 2018 at 5:56 PM ^
Well it's a note that he's familiar with at least.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
Agreed - was a very cold handoff to Ryan Day. Feels like this was the game plan all year.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
This was my thought as well. They knew they should fire him but instead decided to end the relationship in a more "honorable" way with a gentlemen's agreement to part ways after the season. So they suspend him for 3 games to give Day a test run with the intent that once the season is over Meyer will move on.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
this was the trustees plan to "save face" and have Urban retire gracefully. unfortunately everyone in the world can see through this bullshit. they knew they should have fired him before the season but didn't have the strength of character to do it.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Maybe everyone can see through the BS but few seems to care (ESPN / Fox) and tend to portray him more as someone who overcame many obstacles this year.
December 4th, 2018 at 4:10 PM ^
I wanted to post the same. Flipping through the sports tawk lineup on XM during lunch, everyone was memorializing Urban Meyer. Nobody mentioned the offseason trouble except to give context to the Day hire.
December 5th, 2018 at 6:07 AM ^
I turned that shit off and just listened to the Howard Stern show 3 times.
December 5th, 2018 at 9:56 AM ^
This is similar to Jordan's "retirement" right around the swirl regarding his gambling habits (some saying that he bet on NBA games). During his [suspension] retirement, he played AA Baseball for the Chicago White Sox owner who, coincidentally also owned the Bulls. After the [suspension] retirement was over, he returned to the NBA.
Meyer will return to coaching. He doesn’t have a “for cause” tag associated with him like the last Buckeye coach did.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:56 PM ^
Everyone except "Buckeye Nation"
December 4th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
If this was the game plan all year, shouldn't they have announced this immediately after our game so they could garner more votes to get into the CFP? I think it would've helped their chances, no?
December 4th, 2018 at 5:03 PM ^
Something like that helped Tom Osborne
December 4th, 2018 at 5:11 PM ^
The difference being that Tom Osborne retired with dignity, respect and admiration of his peers, the media and fans.
December 4th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
Not sure if you're serious or not but it seems to me Osborne and Meyer have a lot in common.

Bwahahahahahahahaha
December 4th, 2018 at 5:53 PM ^
That something was Scott Frost.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
is there any legit chance that this is some under the table agreement that the board of trustees made him take with the zach smith fallout?
December 4th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
Urban Meyer will remain at Ohio State in an unspecified role in the athletic department, so yes I think this is his buyout.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
I wonder if the NCAA policies these sorts of roles because if he's working for the "athletic dept" by title, but in fact is acting as another assistant coach recruiting etc. that would give them an unfair advantage by retaining his recruiting prowess while releasing him of his coaching duties.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
They didn't care when they allowed him to recruit while Fickell was coaching the team for their bowl game. Why would they care now?
December 4th, 2018 at 7:58 PM ^
I believe that only members of the coaching staff or grad assistants can have direct contact with players during practices. This was brought up with some of Harbaugh's athletic department's hirings, like Devin Bush's father.I believe that only members of the coaching staff or grad assistants can have direct contact with players during practices. I hear he's going to be a life coach and marital counselor.

guess i need to tighten the chinstrap on my tinfoil hat
December 4th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
This is how they got the president to accept it? All the hand-wringing that day with the BOT, president, the wives... this is is what they came up with?
That seems like it will certainly come out if true. And that makes everyone involved look even slimier. What a joke they've made of their university.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:36 PM ^
That would seem logical enough, but OTOH, back in August we were hearing that the trustees didn't want to punish him at all and the university president was fighting an uphill battle to even get the suspension, so I'm not sure what to believe.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
this is actually what i expected after the board of directors standoff in the offseason. coming out with a 3 game suspension and it seemed like Drake wasn't having it, I thought it seemed like he'd be done after the season.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
Why would they do that? You get rid of someone when the public outcry is the worst, not 4 months later after yet another 12 win, B10 championship when no one cares anymore.
December 4th, 2018 at 4:01 PM ^
You are thinking rationally. But this is OSU we’re talking about.
This was their half-ass stupid compromise to allow Urban to save face, preserve the recruiting class, and, most of all, win more games.
They remember the Fickell year and couldn’t chance that again. This gives Day every opportunity to keep the train moving forward while placating the president’s ire.

December 4th, 2018 at 4:49 PM ^
Great theory, but we all know who hires and fires the president at Ohio State.
December 4th, 2018 at 5:11 PM ^
Yeah, definitely shady. Hard to say whether trustees made him take, or whether urbs used what dirt he had on the administration as leverage to be able to 'retire' end of season instead of getting fired at the start.
December 4th, 2018 at 7:39 PM ^
If this was indeed a long con, then we can assume the cyst related headaches were part of the BS.
December 4th, 2018 at 10:59 PM ^
Along with his heart issues at Florida. Transparent as hell, yet he still gets away with it.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
Hmm. Odd.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:20 PM ^
He's joining their AD administration. That doesn't sound like a bad breakup
December 4th, 2018 at 2:25 PM ^
Did they announce that? Sort of odd IMO.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
So he's basically being paid to keep his mouth shut in the future...... And to keep Zach Smith in line.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:21 PM ^
Good, fuck Urban Meyer
December 4th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
Well, he IS the victim in all this, right? /s
December 4th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
His brain cyst hurts today. Or his heart. Or his penis from undergrad sex. Or whatevs
December 4th, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
On the brightside, he won't remember any of it tomorrow.
