Whatever punishment she gets, it's less than she deserves. To think this was a person that MSU just let walk away from the whole situation, gave her a BS President Emeritus role, lifetime football tickets, and some fat, sweaty wad of cash to go with it.

The problem with the way this stuff is reported is that the supposed "maximum sentence" is usually based on the statutory maximum and not on the sentencing guidelines. If she gets convicted a judge following the law will use the sentencing guidelines to calculate the sentence. The guideline formula is based in part on the offender's criminal history. Assuming she has no criminal history, if the judge follows the law she will get very little time in prison or, more likely, no time in prison at all.
In other words, the media-reported maximum is flat-out wrong. It's bad because then when the judge follows the law everyone thinks the offender is getting off easy.
