CFP Rankings - We in the Top-4 officially, thread
1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. Notre Dame
4. Michigan
5. Georgia
6. Oklahoma
7. LSU
8. Wazzu
9. West Virginia
10. Ohio State
One of these things is not like the other. LSU is still neatly situated at the number 7 spot, after not scoring a point against Alabama last week...to continue propping up the SEC.

Harbaugh!
November 6th, 2018 at 10:11 PM ^
It's happening!
November 6th, 2018 at 9:50 PM ^
LSU and Kentucky lose bad and barely drop. #SEC
Pollack saying Georgia should be four, Herbie and Galloway were having none of that.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:53 PM ^
Pollack played for Georgia. But it is interesting that OSU ganged up on Georgia to support Michigan.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:06 PM ^
Simple self interest. They are hoping OSU beats a higher ranked Michigan team so they can argue they belong in the playoff if they then win the Big Ten title game.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:12 PM ^
OSU loses to Sparty this weekend.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:18 PM ^
November 6th, 2018 at 10:34 PM ^
Roll them? They haven't rolled a team with a heartbeat all year. They might win, because Dantoni insists on playing an injured or just bad Lewerke, but it will go down to the last possession. I think Stae gets it done.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:48 PM ^
They have rolled as many teams this year as they did last year before they bent MSU over 48-3. And last year’s MSU team was probably better than this year’s team
November 6th, 2018 at 11:51 PM ^
That is a valid point, but 1) that game was at OSU and 2) last year's OSU team was better than the current Bosa-less version.
November 7th, 2018 at 9:20 AM ^
Last years OSU team beat Nebraska 56-14 in Lincoln so clearly this years team is not as good as last years.
Edit: So yeah what he ^ said...
November 6th, 2018 at 10:13 PM ^
Nah, they were pretty honest and said OSU needs help even if it wins out. I just think its hard to argue how good this defense is. What our boys did the past 3 weeks has piqued the country's interest.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:48 PM ^
Herbie's more of a Michigan fan than a Buckeye fan at this point. Seems like a good guy.
November 6th, 2018 at 11:16 PM ^
Did you listen to his color work last Sat? Even though he really tried, his buckeye bias was still evident.
November 7th, 2018 at 1:48 AM ^
He was praising Michigan all game, saying they were one of the hottest teams in the country.
November 7th, 2018 at 9:48 AM ^
I disagree. Like, what has he said about us that boils your blood? He's pretty neutral, honestly. Compare him to, say, a Pete Finebaum, who actually tries to troll the fanbase for media hits.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:53 PM ^
Florida too. Just brutal.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:57 PM ^
Florida took a 21 point loss to a .500 (at the time) team. Defies logic how they are sitting at 15.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:09 PM ^
Georgia took a shellacking at LSU too, but people saying they should be ahead of us because ... sec.
That NCState ranking is whack too.
November 7th, 2018 at 12:32 AM ^
But who would you put them behind? The other mediocre three loss SEC teams? The mediocre three loss B1G teams (MSU, PSU, Iowa)?
That second tier is pretty weak from the 12-25 range. You could make an argument to put any one of them anywhere in that range. Dunno.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:56 PM ^
Apparently beating the powerhouse Kentucky is now a quality win. WTF?! And OSU’s schedule to this point is complete garbage.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:12 PM ^
David Pollack is a fucking idiot. The current ESPN lineup makes Jesse Palmer look like a genius.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:47 PM ^
November 6th, 2018 at 11:38 PM ^
....and Tiffani
November 7th, 2018 at 12:42 AM ^
Kelly?
November 6th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
I'm also a Jesse Palmer fan. Maybe it's just cuz he's sitting next to that bucknut Galloway every Saturday night. Why wasn't Desmond on the countdown tonight?!
November 6th, 2018 at 11:27 PM ^
Palmer is fine but he looks like Klatt next to Pollack and Joey Galloway.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:50 PM ^
Also, fuck David Pollack. That’s all.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:59 PM ^
I’ve literally never heard him say a single positive about Michigan. He only criticizes UM. Sometimes more subtle than other times, but always critical
November 6th, 2018 at 10:26 PM ^
He seems jealous and threatened - kindred spirit with Pete finebaum
November 7th, 2018 at 12:56 AM ^
This isn't true. He was actually saying a lot of positive things about Michigan earlier in the year and on College Gameday in Ann Arbor before they even won the first leg of the revenge tour.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:51 PM ^
It literally boggles my mind that people are sitting here thinking Georgia’s wins against Kentucky and Florida are considered good. Both teams are awful and have no offense whatsoever. Michigan would smoke both of those teams and I guarantee on a neutral field we would beat Georgia. Their run defense is horrible and I don’t think Fromm is good under pressure.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:59 PM ^
100% correct
Georgia and the entire SEC is a sham with the exception of Bama
November 6th, 2018 at 11:40 PM ^
....yup!
November 7th, 2018 at 7:18 AM ^
I have seen this graphic a few times, and each time, I wonder if we'd even really talk about the SEC much were it not for Alabama. They would still have a few decent teams, but they wouldn't have the team that keeps them consistently in the overall discussion every year when people talk about "the best conference". In other words, the depiction is amusingly accurate, IMHO
November 7th, 2018 at 10:15 AM ^
I especially love the three (3!) tigers sitting next to each other. Along with a couple bulldogs, thems some serious creativity down south.
November 7th, 2018 at 1:46 PM ^
They do have a lot of fucking tigers.
Also, why is Ole Miss a bear?
And why is the Alabama elephant sitting on the shoulders of . . . the Alabama elephant?
There are some things going on here that need explaining.
November 6th, 2018 at 11:33 PM ^
If you look at the SEC's wins/losses what is happening is a giant pile of bullshit.
The SEC has no good wins, in fact they have zero non-con wins against ranked opponents. They've all beaten each other. It's a giant circle jerk of SEC love and transitive bullshit. I'm not gonna pull up the long diatribe I typed the other day but essentially every SEC team being propped up because they beat a team who beat a team who beat them. Every one of those teams is getting good credit for their own losses.
1 beats 2 who beats 3 who beats 1. Well, obviously 1 must be pretty good because they beat 2 and 2 beat 3 and 3 was good enough to beat 1.
It makes no fucking sense, it's an SEC slob job. AND it's the exact reason why preseason rankings are fucking cancer.
If georgia isn't ranked #3 preseason then NONE of this matters.
But NO, after Georgia loses to LSU everyone just assumes LSU should be number 3, after they had just lost to a 6-3 florida who has just now lost to 4-4 Florida. Why not do the sensible thing and assume that Georgia was overranked as fuck like what happens to every other conference?
Oh, yeah. SEC slob jobs.
It's fucking corrupt.
November 7th, 2018 at 1:02 AM ^
Yes, one of the biggest downsides of an 8 team playoff is that it would definitely favor undeserving SEC teams (like the GA/LSU this year) slip in at 7 & 8 because of their 'quality losses' and transitive wins.
November 7th, 2018 at 8:03 AM ^
Easy solution in a 4 team playoff: you have to win your conference to get in.
- There are so few games in a season to establish how good teams are that it makes little sense to have more than one team from a conference.
- Already established who the best team is in the conference, so why give a team another chance?
- Make the regular season matter more
- Yes, I realize that Alabama would have been left out last year. Sorry, but win your damn conference. Georgia was competitive and clearly deserving enough last year and they took care of business in the regular season.
November 7th, 2018 at 1:11 AM ^
I mean, you have to recognize that the resumes are close between Michigan and UGA.
Whatever bad things you want to say about Florida and Kentucky, those things are true, but are equally true of MSU and PSU which are Michigan's best wins and also relatively "awful" teams.
Michigan's loss is better and M appears to be the better team, but I'm not sure it's in "guarantee" a win territory. Probably 55/45 Michigan.
November 7th, 2018 at 7:28 AM ^
The thing about Georgia is, they have one loss already and must play Alabama. So either they’ll beat Alabama and be in the CFP regardless, or they’ll lose a second game and be out. Whether they are 5 this week or 4 seems pretty insignificant.
November 7th, 2018 at 1:53 PM ^
Underrated comment.
They could put Georgia ahead of us and it would not matter.
Our only threats if we win out are a one loss Alabama, and possibly whichever of OU or WVU is able to win out if they look spectacular doing it.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:51 PM ^
ACC is criminally overrated. SEC as well. It’s difficult for other conferences to make headway when 5 top 20 spots are clogged unfairly.
November 6th, 2018 at 9:58 PM ^
Joel Klatt has his work cut out for him this week.
November 6th, 2018 at 10:07 PM ^
Joel Klatt should be the entire the CFP committee. He is the most logical mind out there, along with Herbie. Everyone else is just pumping SEC/ACC agendas. Klatt is taking on the system and showing how these early CFP rankings effect the outcome of the CFP when it actually matters. Propping Clemson and Bama up with fraudulently ranked SEC/ACC teams is creating the dual SEC teams in the playoffs
November 6th, 2018 at 10:12 PM ^
Klatt ok, but let's not lose our minds
Herbie is an ass and was ridiculously biased against us in his commentary for the PSU game
Totally agree about SEC/ACC fraud though. Someone needs to start throwing around that P5 v.s. non-conference wins v.s. ranked teams stat
November 6th, 2018 at 10:32 PM ^
Disagree re: Herbie.
I listened to that game and I don't think his commentary was biased against us at all. He was very fair and more complimentary than he had to be. He was impressed by our offense and defense.
November 7th, 2018 at 5:45 AM ^
Yeah, I didn’t hear that at all. I thought he was really fair. He specifically said he wanted to see Michigan v. Alabama at the end of the broadcast.
November 7th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
Let's be totally honest here . . . Herbie was absolutely on our knob. I was kinda embarrassed.
