Michigan Monday is up
https://theozone.net/2018/10/michigan-monday-recapping-badger-beatdown/
it isn't as funny or snarky as usual, mainly because they are like "oh crap, it's serious now"
October 15th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
Still, this was a performance that now has people talking about Michigan and the Playoffs, and not in a “Ha Ha” sort of way.
You know, kind of how they used to talk about Penn State and Wisconsin.
October 15th, 2018 at 10:17 PM ^
I mean, this is a dig, but the post is littered with similar digs which just don't mask the overall 'oh shit, this just got f*cking serious' vibe.
In related sentiment, I LOVE IT (and am simply enjoying this while I can)
October 15th, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
Pure recap with a healthy dose of concern.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:01 PM ^
I always look forward to Michigan Monday. These two parts are a little telling from the other side:
And it also means that Ohio State doesn’t match up very well with Michigan right now.
&
The only difference this time is that the Buckeyes have more ground to make up than Michigan for a change.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:07 PM ^
Well, this tweet was a little funny.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:21 PM ^
I don't get the joke. I think he is literally correct.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:30 PM ^
Oh, I do too...I don't think it is quite fair to say that Gerdeman is lacking in snark, though
October 15th, 2018 at 10:03 PM ^
As soon as that happened, I leaned over to my dad and said "I bet they're setting something up for MSU next week." I was really okay with it.
October 15th, 2018 at 10:44 PM ^
I'm kinda torn about that play though. I'd hate to see DCaf get injured on a gimmick play, but it looked like if Shea threw the ball to him, he could've had a big gain. Dude showed his wheels on the read option, so it wouldn't be crazy to imagine him catching a screen pass and getting a chunk of yards.
October 15th, 2018 at 10:57 PM ^
Watch the play: Gentry is on the line, in the slot to the side of the Evans screen. He runs out to stalk block, but slips past the OLB, Van Ginkel, who was in coverage in him, to go stalk the corner on the outside who was playing way off. He purposely let's his man get by him to go block a guy further downfield, because they want the deep DBs to read screen and jump up.
If they have another trick off of this, and it's not just something they're putting on film to fuck with teams, I'd bet anything that Gentry runs a bit of a block-to-wheel and McCaffrey throws it back to him in the opposite corner of the endzone.
I don't really trust that they're going to do anything further with this because A) a real screen to McCaffrey is unnecessarily dangerous for your backup QB, and B) that throwback to Gentry would be across a lot of field. That's a guaranteed INT if it's read correctly.
October 15th, 2018 at 11:03 PM ^
I could see McCaffrey getting a pass, pretending like he's gonna throw back across the field, and then taking off upfield as the defense overreacts to the trick play. But yes, that might be an unnecessary risk to a potentially important player.
October 15th, 2018 at 11:07 PM ^
That seems like turning an already long-developing into a crazy long-developing play. Idk, I'm kind of with the OSU writer here, I don't think we use this for real.
October 15th, 2018 at 11:38 PM ^
what if the trick play is just to throw it to Gentry deep? McCaffery is a total side show and Evans is a decoy they want aggressive safeties to key on.
October 15th, 2018 at 11:52 PM ^
Yeah, they pump fake both? That could work for sure.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:11 PM ^
Lemme get this straight. Our coach, who:
Turned San Diego into a D2 power
Took a 1-11 Stanford team (Pac 10 version of Indiana) and made them 12-1 in 4 years, turning them into a Pac 12 powerhouse
Made his QB into a first overall pick
Was the hottest coaching candidate on the market in 2010
Won an NFC championship
Took the 49ers, who hadn't had a winning season since Will Smith's testicles descended, to three straight playoff appearances
Rejuvenated Alex Smith's career
Made Kaepernick a viable NFL commodity
Was the hottest coaching candidate in NFL and college in 2014
Has made Michigan into a playoff contender? Who could've seen that coming.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:18 PM ^
It really is insane that some don’t get this. Throw out Speight/O’Korn/Peters last year and I think it’s beginning to become clear the man is once again working his magic.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:19 PM ^
Yeah but he's "never won a championship" so therefore he sucks.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:29 PM ^
Sadly, people actually believe this.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:32 PM ^
Literally every OSU and MSU fan believes this.
October 16th, 2018 at 7:11 AM ^
They are also incorrect because NFC Champion is a championship.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:32 PM ^
Were we not a playoff contender/in the playoff talk virtually ALL of the 2016 season?
October 15th, 2018 at 9:37 PM ^
I'm not sure what your point is. Are you agreeing with me?
October 15th, 2018 at 10:35 PM ^
At least we don't have to worry about durkin dickin us over for the last game of the regular season.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:41 AM ^
I thought that was 15, no?
October 16th, 2018 at 6:48 AM ^
Maybe. I'm getting old.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:55 PM ^
That's a very thin resume. Literally no one could have seen this coming.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:26 PM ^
I am getting the sense that Buckeyes currently have an underlying dread that 1) their defense looks (relatively) horrible, Bosa isn't coming back, and it's only a matter of time before playing poorly costs them a game, and 2) the best team on their schedule is Michigan, and if they don't lose by The Game, they're going to be more nervous for that one than they've been in years.
Also, something quirky I saw today: Bill C has updated the stats profiles, and our percentile performance for Wisconsin was 90%, but our offensive and defensive percentiles were 51% and 68%...wut. This means that the Wisconsin game was our 4th best overall performance (behind WMU, Nebraska, Notre Dame), but that it was our second-worst offensive performance (behind Notre Dame) and our worst defensive performance.
Did we just beat Wisconsin by 25 and actually not play very well in doing so?
October 15th, 2018 at 9:28 PM ^
I mean, efficiency wise, we probably should have scored 51 or something.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:32 PM ^
At least 44, for sure. It's just a little quirky - nobody really had a bad game from looking at the box score, but we definitely left some things on the board. Even Shea, who didn't have a great game, was mostly fine save for the two bad sacks he took. On defense, we couldn't really stop Taylor, but they kind of inexplicably stopped going to him, so we didn't need to.
October 15th, 2018 at 10:24 PM ^
I think Purdue may give Ohio State a good game.
October 15th, 2018 at 10:28 PM ^
Depending on your definition of a game, I don't think there's anyone left on OSU's schedule that can't give them a game. Their defense is not top 40 in S&P, and gives up so many big plays. Minnesota was in a great upset position for a while, and every offense left on the schedule has a better offense than Minnesota - who are they going to pull away from?
October 15th, 2018 at 10:50 PM ^
I mean I think they can stay within one score and possibly win.
October 15th, 2018 at 11:18 PM ^
Yeah, I think everyone left on their schedule can do that. Not like 0.1% chance "can", I mean I don't think OSU should be given more than an 85% chance to win any game left on their schedule.
October 16th, 2018 at 9:33 AM ^
i think Mgoblue98 is correct. This purdue team may very well upset OSU. Purdue is MUCH better than their record suggests. I don't think OSU is going to come out with their "A" game, Purdue will. There is a very good shot of an upset this weekend.
October 16th, 2018 at 10:01 AM ^
Jonathan Taylor averaged 5.9 ypc, but only got 17 carries, and as has been covered, they went away from him on every third-and-short.
If Wisconsin runs him 30 times, converts its short-yardage situations, and doesn't run over Cheeseman on that punt, we might be talking about a one-score game in the fourth quarter. And if that's the case, we might not have gotten the pick-six or McCaffrey's TD run.
October 16th, 2018 at 10:51 AM ^
Taylor only carried 6 times in the second half but it also only yielded 22 yards. Michigan had Wisconsin's passing game so turned around there was no way this game was going to be close. Closer? Sure.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:28 PM ^
Another reason we need to beat State: Ohio State is actually scared of us right now and I would like that feeling to continue.
October 15th, 2018 at 10:37 PM ^
OSU fans are concerned with Purdue. Has nothing to do with us.
That said, they are banged up and will start to get more guys back at full strength as the season goes on.
OSU has tons of talent and they will be fine. And until Michigan they can prove they can play a complete game on the road, I think it's laughable for people to feel "confident" for that game. We haven't won a game there in nearly 20 years. Going on the road and winning in a hostile environment is one of the hardest things to do in college football.
October 15th, 2018 at 10:47 PM ^
We? Us? You got a mouse in your pocket? Last I knew you were a full-on Ohio State troll. Did you confuse which account you logged in?
October 16th, 2018 at 10:20 AM ^
Definitely logged into the wrong account. I wonder what his "Michigan fan" account name is.
October 15th, 2018 at 11:22 PM ^
Stop saying "us" ya fucking troll. Not sure why the mods have allowed you to troll for so long. They must feel sorry for your stupid ass.
October 15th, 2018 at 11:28 PM ^
Are you really pretending to now be a Michigan fan?
October 16th, 2018 at 12:27 PM ^
Maybe he's one of those fairweather types.
October 17th, 2018 at 3:54 AM ^
That defends Urban Meyer tooth and nail?
October 15th, 2018 at 9:30 PM ^
Ha ha, the asterisk after Rutger on the schedule.
* = rivalry game.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:33 PM ^
there very much is "oh crap, it's serious now" feel to it.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:39 PM ^
I predicted 11-1 this year, but I think I've been stuck on 98% belief since Notre Dame. Beat MSU this weekend and I will be at 100%. A rest week and get Black back, then an overrated PSU, Rutgers, and Indiana, before a single game for all the marbles.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:47 PM ^
Maybe I’m still shell shocked from all of the last 10 years (specifically ‘15 & ‘17) but i don’t like this weeks game. Things just don’t go our way. I’m not saying I think we’ll lose...I just hate thinking about them ruining our season reigniting the Harbaugh media storm.
October 17th, 2018 at 11:22 AM ^
It seems the weather forecast has changed and they are calling for partly cloudy and cool. Plus there have been some hints that some players might be back earlier than expected.
JH is dialed in. I'm excited for this game.
October 15th, 2018 at 9:52 PM ^
I had us at 9-3 with losses to ND, either MSU or PSU and then OSU. If the team that played this past Saturday shows up this coming Saturday and beats State (and i think they will) then I think you're right.
Still a wee bit nervous though that we have not played well on the road yet. Dont forget we were down 17-0 to a crappy Northwestern team before we woke up and pulled the game out. Start real slow again against MSU and i dont think the outcome will be the same.
Very, very critical game this weekend for a LOT of reasons.
