Disrespekt? ESPN running with ludicrous FRONT PAGE non-story about non-existent Harbaugh hot seat
From an ESPN "Senior Writer" ... how long till we ban these clowns?
August 28th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
I didn't read the story, and won't. That said, do we really want to be MSU and OSU fans and blame the "biased mainstream media" for every story we don't like? For that matter, is it so hard to envision some boosters and fans calling for Harbaugh's head if we go 8-5 again??
August 28th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
It's not that they're biased. It's just factually inaccurate--and certainly not worth being the main link on their front page right now.
And with the kinds of unforeseen circumstances that would be required for us to end up 8-5, yes, it's difficult for me to imagine any idea of replacing Harbaugh gaining real traction...
Also, the post was meant in some measure for Board optics, to coincide with the previous post.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
ESPN writes an article suggesting something negative about Jim Harbaugh and this is potential grounds for banning ESPN?
Woof...maybe Michigan should put out it's own state-run media that only showcases the program in absolute positive light? Perhaps a consult to the leaders of the USA and NK could shed some light on this.
August 28th, 2018 at 4:06 PM ^
It works for ohio state, amirite?
August 28th, 2018 at 6:21 PM ^
The presidents of the USA has been bashed by the media every day since he started running as a republican. He might not be the beatbox source of how to force media to be nice.
August 28th, 2018 at 4:17 PM ^
The computer models are predicting 9 wins. Going 8-5 is a DISTINCT possibility, no matter what unforeseen circumstances are involved. You are basically arguing that ESPN is correct.
I also firmly believe that if the team goes 8-5, hell, even if we go 9-4, there will be a LOUD crowd on this board calling for Harbaugh's head. I would say ESPN is pretty accurate.
August 28th, 2018 at 6:54 PM ^
Not sure where you got Disrespekt. I read the article several hours ago, before I saw this post. There is no hotseat implication, neither explicit nor implied, as the following passage indicates:
"Few believe that Harbaugh's job is in danger, even if his 2-7 record in those games worsens this fall. Or if another first weekend of December comes and goes without any Maize and Blue on the sideline in Indianapolis for the Big Ten title game. But most everyone believes that here, on the eve of that crucial fourth year, the Harbaugh era is standing squarely at a State Street-like crossroads, its time of ultimate judgment having finally arrived."
Overall, I thought it was a pretty accurate and well developed piece. I am sure the video version will look good on College Gameday on Saturday.
August 28th, 2018 at 7:50 PM ^
Exactly what pepper said.
August 28th, 2018 at 7:48 PM ^
Not good optics to so quickly run to the defense of your post after merely one comment.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
That's lamestream msm media, Mo. Get it right.
August 28th, 2018 at 4:02 PM ^
Welcome back, Hatter. I missed your foul irreverent wit...
August 28th, 2018 at 4:01 PM ^
I'll say it...
If Michigan goes 8-5 this year (absent season-ending injuries to both Patterson and Peters), I'll be ready to turn the page on the Harbaugh era.
August 28th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
Your seat is hot and ready for the bandwagon.
August 28th, 2018 at 5:48 PM ^
I'm sure there will be a bevy of better coaches lining up at the door after we fire our All-American alum coach, after 4 winning seasons (two of which were 10-win seasons).
August 28th, 2018 at 6:08 PM ^
Worked out well for Nebraska when they fired their coach because they were tired of 8 and 9 win seasons....
August 28th, 2018 at 7:11 PM ^
Lol ok dude
August 28th, 2018 at 4:18 PM ^
T'is clickbait!
August 28th, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
I think ESPN is just trying to generate clicks/discussion - same reason they always put Tom Brady NOT at #1 in the top 100 NFL players.
Or they're just being trolls.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
"Few believe that Harbaugh's job is in danger, even if his 2-7 record in those games worsens this fall. Or if another first weekend of December comes and goes without any Maize and Blue on the sideline in Indianapolis for the Big Ten title game. But most everyone believes that here, on the eve of that crucial fourth year, the Harbaugh era is standing squarely at a State Street-like crossroads, its time of ultimate judgment having finally arrived"
Self-contradictory penultimate paragraph saying, "few believe his job is in danger" ... "and now here's a bunch more words implying that if they don't succeed this year, they will never be good under Harbaugh" (which would imply that his job is in danger...)
August 28th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
But they have to go to Indy, I already bought my tickets!
August 28th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
Also this particularly creative bracket usage. And I thought Nick B's parenthetical quote liberties were bad!
"[The criticism] is fair because we haven't won [big games]," Harbaugh told Smith last week.
August 28th, 2018 at 6:30 PM ^
I dont think this article is earth shattering or changes anything. The team IS under a lot of pressure to perform, I personally dont like it but it is what it is at places like Michigan, especially given our recent history, they know it, coach knows it. But if it does go down and were 8-5 or 9-4 and not in Indy then I think he is in the hotseat.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
Hopefully he proves them wrong, but at the end of the day, if he falls to 1-7 vs OSU and MSU, he's going to be on the hot seat.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
ban them from what? the solar system?
August 28th, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
In a Freepish ChatSportsy manner
August 28th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
I'm shocked ESPN would publish a self-contradicting article in order to goose clicks just before the season starts.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
I know, right? They could have titled it, "Please PLEASE give us a record-setting first-week audience for College Game Day!"
Thinking about the fan bases involved, and the fact that it's a night game, ND-UMich could certainly do it for them.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
I would kiss the sports media executive who realized that, for most of us, the fact that Michigan is playing Notre Dame is all the narrative that's needed.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
The piece notes that few people believe his job is at stake this year. It instead says the program is at a crossroads, which seems reasonable (even though I don't agree).
August 28th, 2018 at 5:56 PM ^
You must have read the article I read. That's clearly not the piece the OP read (though it's the one he linked to), because the linked article says none of the things the OP claims it does.
Of course this is a crossroads season. If Harbaugh can't right the ship with this team, then he'll suffer severely in recruiting, making a future positive course correction even less likely. He won't be gone, but his seat will be warm.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
Clicking on these articles just feeds the beast. Posting it here, for all to see and be tempted to click, is not helpful.

Point of ESPN: Clicks.

Great success.

August 28th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
He should be on the hotseat
August 28th, 2018 at 4:03 PM ^
Harbaugh "should be on the hotseat" ??!! MarcusRay97, your screen name notwithstanding, you are either a troll or a very unhappy person or, perhaps, the real Marcus Ray who never has much good to say about Michigan but loves to talk about how wonderful his hometown and residence of Columbus, Ohio is. Whichever of these descriptions apply to you, why don't you just follow a team you actually like and keep your garbage off this site?
August 28th, 2018 at 6:16 PM ^
It is unfortunately amusing how this board canonizes Harbaugh and any realistic analysis of his performance as a top 5 highest paid coach in the country relative to performance results in "fuck off"s from the likes of you. Never understood the cognitive dissonance with being a ignorant homer. But, ok.
August 28th, 2018 at 7:06 PM ^
If your benchmark is compensation then the corollary benchmark is also economic based (revenue). Harbaugh is a top 5 coach as UM was tied with OSU at #3 for college revenue of $185m. So in an objective view, he is worth his salary.
Now if your standard is “leaders and best”, there is a meaningful discussion about 28-11 as a record.
August 29th, 2018 at 1:17 PM ^
That's certainly fair. Would be interesting to know the revenue increase since Harbaugh came on board.
August 28th, 2018 at 11:38 PM ^
To the powers that be: Please ban this troll BoHarb from this site. BoHarb, your screen name doesn't fool us - go back under the rock you crawled out from under.

Will do bud
August 28th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
I can’t believe I’m actually defending an ESPN article, but It very clearly says few believe his job is in danger. It only says the 4th year is an important year, which it is. It seems like you are the one trying to fuel a fire that just doesn’t exist from this article.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
What are you talking about OP? Did you even read it?
The article specifically states "Few believe that Harbaugh's job is in danger, even if his 2-7 record in those games worsens this fall." and was generally pretty positive I thought.
It was an honest appraisal of where we are at and when they say the program's "at a crossroads" are they not accurate? Arent we? As they ACCURATELY point out we are 2-7 against MSU, OSU and in bowl games. Not exactly what any of us (including Harbaugh btw) thought would happen entering year four.
I think we've reached maximum sensitivity about the program when any article that simply states the truth is bashed. Either that or you didnt read it and just assumed it was going down the hot seat road by the title.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
Yeah I don't think he read it. It was a pretty standard fluff piece. Nothing in there was at all controversial.
August 28th, 2018 at 4:01 PM ^
It's not even a clickbait headline.
August 28th, 2018 at 4:47 PM ^
I'm glad I'm not alone here. I didn't think it was a great article or anything, but it certainly wasn't painting the program or Harbaugh in a negative light. If anything, I think the writer suggest that this year will be a big year for UM.
Suggesting that based on the fact that Harbaugh has smiled and grinned more as of late may be a little stupid, but I don't get the hate from OP.
August 28th, 2018 at 11:09 PM ^
A) The disrespect was running that title for hours on the front page of the site. Respect has everything to do with presentation.
B) Which was ironic, considering the current post on this board at the time, hence the asinine spelling in my own title.
C) The conclusion of the paragraph that you cite (as I do above) is exactly opposite its topic sentence... So, to answer your question, yes I did read it.
August 28th, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
Delete this thread ffs
August 28th, 2018 at 3:51 PM ^
I read the article and its not that out of bounds. He even goes on to say that "few believe Harbaugh's job is in jeopardy" and that the program is at a crossroads, which I think in year 4 is a fair statement. I dunno some of you out there go crazy with these articles, this isn't even in the class of those shit chatsports articles, just my $0.02...
