Colin Cowherd defends Jim Harbaugh
Yeah don't care that most everyone here hates The Herd besides that one MichiganFan1984 guy. Every time there's a thread about him, there's always been a ton of replies.

Does Harbaugh need defending?
No, but its nice to hear one prominent media guy not spewing the same old tired narratives
Not at all...
And after this season there will be a lot of people scrambling to get on the bandwagon.
I mean, I don't think so, but people outside of Michigan fandom seem to just parrot "he hasn't won anything" and then refer to record vs. rivals.
They aren't invalid points, but when I point out conference titles at San Diego and his success in the NFL they say, for some reason, that those don't count. Basically I don't engage anymore because of the goalpost-moving.
Plus, a lot of people love to hate Harbaugh.
Quarterback play has decided OSU-UM games of late. That would be more on point.
I do enjoy listening to Colin Cowherd...so there is two of us now.

Maybe this is your other account, so we could be back to one of you.
QB play and shady Ohio officials.
I honestly don't know if Colin Cowherd defending Michigan is good or doom.
This time last year he was calling for Michigan to be 11-0 or 10-1 going into the OSU game. So...
And we should have been...
he didn't predict the qb getting hurt? he dumb.
I'm actually a huge fan of The Herd. Don't always agree with him but more often than not I think he has some pretty good opinions. Contrary to the belief of many here, he is not a hot takey type of host. I listen to his show while at work every day.
Same here. I was going to post this, but last time I posted about the Herd this place went nuts.
I used to listen to him a lot when I still drove to work. When he is talking for himself, he is usually going for the contrarian hot takes angle. Sometimes they are insightful; sometimes they are asinine.
However, the reason I listened was his interviews. He is terrific at getting people who are in sports but are not athletes to talk about how they approach their jobs and what they are thinking. His regular chats with former NFL coaches were can't miss listening, and his interview of a players' agent was one of the most interesting things I've ever heard on sports talk radio.
I feel like no one remembers what 2014 was like anymore. Thank you Colin Cowherd for being the only national sports media person smart enough to mention that context.
I hate the man and really wish someone better could be the one defending us, but I have to thank him for at least being the one person to do that.
I feel like no one can remember how good we were in 2016 at this point. Or that we knew 2017 would be a rebuilding year.
I can't find it but I remember Brian saying there was a good chance we could be 12-0 last season so I'm not sure I buy the "everyone knew it was a rebuilding year" argument.
Nevermind, I found it. He said 10-2 was his prediction with spread of 12-0 to 8-4 under worst case ... still don't think he was calling for a rebuild.
Most who talked of rebuilds assumed it would be the defense more than the offense. Few saw the offensive ineptitude coming with a returning starter at QB and O'Korn's 2nd season of eligibility.

I think the disdain is directly fueled by losing that MSU game the way we did. 9 wins, with one being over a rival helps ease the mind.
Not to mention that MSU somehow managed to pull out a 10-win season coming off of a 3 win season the year before, with a pretty young team in their own right.
I think all of this makes the perception of our rebuilding year a little worse.
I love the Herd....Cowherd loves Harbaugh and Michigan...since the “incident”.

So, you think Cowherd is a buy right now?
Yeah he is, ratings are up for him and Fox Sports. ESPN and every show and host there is a sell.

Woooosh

Fuck Cowherd. All of the sudden his opinion is supposed to be valuable because he said something nice about Harbaugh? No.

It's not valuable because he said something nice about Harbaugh, it's valuable because he's the only national sports media personality to actually move away from a tired, worn out, overused narrative.
Even though I agree with what Colin is saying, I do think you're right. I mean, it's easy to like someone when they say something you like, but in this case, I think his comments could still qualify as "hot takes." Saying "look where they were before he got there" doesn't amount to much (although it's still a valid point).
However, a deeper way to look at it would be: Hoke did a terrible job of accumulating talent at certain key positions, namely QB and offensive line. The skill positions were slightly better but not by much. This has been reflected by the play on the field, as those have been the positions that have struggled the most. Especially on the offensive line, where Michigan only ended up with less than half a dozen linemen from the 2013-2015 classes by the 2017 season. Harbaugh coming in January of '15 made it virtually impossible to shore up the roster that year. That's the biggest reason for why things are the way they are right now.
Pertaining to your first paragraph... I agree it’s easy to like someone when they’re saying nice things. When Herd is being a dbag I get annoyed, but I just really like the guy and I think he very fair on 90% of topics.
He has his moments. People don't like him when he talks shit about their team. Everyone wants smoke blown..no one wants to hear their team isn't any good.
His whole point was people saying Harbaugh couldn't coach because he lost, but you can list a handful of plays since he's arrived that change the entire narrative:
Ruddock connects on one of the deep passes in the Utah game.
Punt snap isn't dropped
K. Hill doesn't fumble a kick return against Iowa
Spot is called correctly or Speight doesn't fumble int he redzone
J Lewis doesn't give up his only touchdown pass of the season vs FSU
That's 5 wins before even thinking about last year, 2 of those vs MSU and OSU could have easily been wins.
Another reason I like Cowherd is because he looks past the "obvious." Matt Cassell getting a huge deal after leading the Pats to 11-5. Well they had the easiest schedule in the league. For those that like nuance and context instead of just spitting out useless and evident numbers, Colin is the guy.
Also...how can you "hate" someone you've likely never met because you don't like how he talks about sports?
That might be one of the best posts I’ve ever read on here. Very logical approach in your thoughts. Well said.
No doubt we have been the victims of some pretty unusually bad luck, but let's not get carried away with the "if" game. Many teams could make similar claims. This is really just another way of saying that we have been very competitive in most of our losses. Making the leap to actually winning those games is another story.
Pretty much cuz he's not that appealing to look at nor has a voice you listen to enjoyably, he must have some insight that makes him TVable.
I believe him yo.
Oh, okay.
Did we check to see if he stole his defense from Yost?
I love how quiet it has been from all of Michigans staff this year while the media is just ripping on them especially the spartan beat writers. these guys are poking at a sleeping bear, Harbaugh has won everywhere he goes. Give him a minimum average QB and his teams do exceptional
This to me is telling. Saying they are more focused suggests maybe they weren't in the past but they seem to be more business-minded this season. It's another reason this season feels different to me.
I like it, but Cowherd is nervous bird. No steak and milk? That's just crazy talk right there. Big ol' medium-rare steak. Big ol' glass of whole milk. Oh, yeah.
I like a nice Cabernet with my steak, personally. I’m not against milk, but there are far better beverages to pair with a delicious, medium rare ribeye.
I just want to beat ND, have an injury free practice before the game...
idk I like Colin Cowherd's show. I guess I am in the minority, which is fine
Who is his co host?? Dayum
That would be the little sister of former Dolphins DE, Jason Taylor. I think her name is Joy.
Let's be honest, the only guys really ripping Harbaugh, all have an agenda. They either don't like him, or are on the other side of a rivalry. If you look at their history, they have probably never had a nice thing to say to begin with. I just don't listen, one way or the other, because he is doing a fine job. Would we have liked to have won a championship by now? Hell yes, but the long term health of the program is in great shape.
For a national audience, what he said is very on point and worth pointing out; other than for the OSU '16 game, he didn't specifically point out that JT was likely short.
Cowherd is a fucking moron.
