Mom: BS Nursing 1966, Dad BA Psychology 1965 MBA 1967. They raised me to believe that Michigan was the only place to go to college and they saved enough to pay for my UM degree. That's worth a tie for #1 right there.

Lousma is a good choice--also add to his accomplishments that he was the CAPCOM (spacecraft communicator in Houston) during much of the Apollo 13 mission--but he technically doesn't meet the requirements of this thread.

Also, as long as we are mentioning Apollo-era astronaut alums, I should mention probably the most accomplished of the group, James Alton McDivitt.

As a Michigan Daily alum one of the stories that gets passed around is that when Thomas Dewey & Arthur Miller (not at the same time but close) the editors assigned Dewey to the arts section and MIller to news.

Samuel Ting showed up on campus with $100 in his pocket without being able to speak English. He became a Nobel Laureate, discovered the j/psi particle, and was an all-around CERN bad ass:

I was lucky to see him talk when I was an undergrad and he actually had some pretty funny stories about his time in A2.
