Mgoblog (Brian) Twitter rant
Looks like bowling didn't go too well
I'm just done with people who are mad at me for reacting how I do to Michigan football. If you don't like it, I don't care
For years I let people talk shit to me because I felt some sort of duty to them because they'd been around a while.
That was a mistake. If you are surprised that I am emotional and moody at this point you are too stupid to care about.
I have taken epic tons of shit for being in a bad mental spot this year; and somehow I managed to feel bad about that.
No more. I'm done taking shit from internet anons because I'm not happy about losing to OSU 9 of 10 years.
I don't owe you a damn thing. Read it or don't.
most people are not reacting like that, but shitheads are louder. this is going to have an effect on MGoBlog.
Your point total is irrelevant to my decisions. If you're making our lives shitty, you're gone
This whole season has been 50% nightmare team, 50% nightmare community. I can fix half of that.

I hope that nothing too crazy happens here. This is a great site and has definitely made me a much more intelligent fan over the last four years. I really try to only comment if I feel like I have something to really offer. Too many people seem to comment just to hear themselves talk.
As an armchair psychologist, I sometimes wonder if Brian would be a good candidate for a sabbatical. I remember reading somewhere that all sportswriters end up hating sports. Turning your passion into your job can be a dicey thing sometimes. Maybe take a season to just watch the games and refresh yourself.

I've never had such awesome info as from this site but this year it's been overshadowed by the crap

was not too bad back in '05-'07, then the trolls came and I never went back! I just hope the MODS can keep trolls out. They can destroy a blog on you.

I would not be shocked if we're rapidly approaching, or even past, the point where Brian is no longer able to be a fan in a way that works for him. You're right that being a sports writer and being a fan are usually incompatable.

Game, then bowling.

This game was enternaing, minus the win! I think every game should have been. But the only contest we were not in was the MSU game. All other games we had our chances!

Some will say that he gets paid and this is his choice.... And with that come knuckleheads. But, I can see that wearing one down a bit.

To me that's what makes this place special; there can be incredible levels of analysis paired with ranting and raving and being upset because Brian doesn't write for a newspaper. Writing with both emotion and analytic ability is what sets mgoblog apart.

Even if true (which I'm not sure how you'd know unless you.ve known him his entire life), what does this have to do with anything?

I just wish the trustees were half as pissed as Brian is. When Ohio State needed a new coach, they went out and got the best. Then, they made sure that nobody would undermine his position. Everyone pulled together behind their new spread coach, and now they might actually make the national "championship" game if they get by Sparty.
Meanwhile, what do we get at Michigan?
David Brandon is Lane Kiffin's "brother from another mother;" he has botched everything he has tried to do concerning the football team, and has done it in the most belligerent manner possible. He talks a great game, and unlike Kiffin," he doesn't have a W-L record to be judged by.
The trustees need to look at David Brandon's mandate that the Wolverines play 20th century football while everyone who is any good is playing 21st century football. The outlier is Bama, but even they just lost to an inferior team with a very nice 21st century offense, and Michigan can't buy the kind of personnel Bama does.
If David Brandon is going to insist that Michigan run an outdated system, he needs to take the blame for it. Ironically enough, his first catchphrase was "downhill running." That is exactly what Ohio did out of Rich Rod's offense via Urban Meyer during their last drive today.
Brian is right to be pissed at Michigan "giving back" what they gained in the series during the John Cooper era, and is right to be pissed at personal attacks by people who abuse his hospitality.
Most of all, every Michigan fan should be pissed that Ohio State is about to win a National Championship, Sparty is playing them in the Big Ten Championship game, and we have just sat through yet another disappointing season.
The game has changed. Michigan stopped playing MANBALL for most of today and scored 41 against Ohio State. This was much closer to the real Al Borges than we have seen during his tenure in Ann Arbor.
There are two things that are going to work. Either David Brandon has to let Al Borges do more of what he did today or replace Borges with a spread guy. Playing 1990's football isn't going to win the Big Ten anymore, especially when there are no more co-champions.
As for Brian, I hope he writes some of the most stinging commentary about the state of the program that he has ever written. He would be fully justified.

OSU lucked into Meyer as much as anything. You can argue that they botched the Tressel situation - many OSU fans will argue this, in fact. They were fortunate enough that Meyer had his health scare and retired for a year. It's very rare that a coach of his caliber is available and that said coach grew up loving your team.
I don't say this to minimize anyone's frustration. Michigan has to match or exceed what OSU has going, but I also don't think it's fair to approach the situation as if OSU outflanked Michigan in impressive fashion by acquiring Meyer. He fell in their lap.
December 1st, 2013 at 12:01 AM ^
it all depends if you believe his health scare was real or just a way to get away from Florida.
December 1st, 2013 at 1:26 AM ^
Still, if Tressel isn't forced out Meyer is probably off the market before they have a job opening. He'd probably already be checking out the Song Girls this season.
December 1st, 2013 at 2:19 PM ^
I am covinced that the health scare was Sabanitis.

But if he does make a change at OC, I sure hope he is a smart coach and will take a good spread OC. Borges has shown he could play spread or spread mixed with west coast. But trying to go back to a pro set I formation will not allow this team to beat the likes of OSU often.

I'm for change but consistency in approach is required at this point.

Yesssssss. Essentially took a year off from the blog because it was making me feel like shit to read all the BS. This isn't MLive and it shouldn't be. No reason for it to devolve into utter chaos every time someone doesn't like a call or we lose a game, and no reason for reasonable questions about the qualification of the coaches to turn into namecalling 100% of the time. Can't wait to see what's in store.

I don't blame Brian at all for being fed up with people who assail him with accusations of not knowing anything about football and/or not being a true fan in response to nearly everything he posts. The UFRs are just great reading for a fan, and every week somebody inevitably chimes in with "LOLgineer hasn't ever played footballs."
This has been an incredibly disappointing and frustrating football season, cast against the backdrop of an incredibly disappointing and frustrating decade of Michigan football. It sucks for people who are passionate about U-M football. This is a sports blog. People bitch about their team on sports blogs when the team is disappointing and frustrating. People celebrate their team amidst the bitching when the team is good.
There is a cadre of posters here who fancy themselves the attitude police, as if they have some sort of special protector role for the public image of the program. I encourage these people to spend more time at the offical U-M sports website blog (http://www.mgoblue.com/blog/), a thrilling virtual space with a broad range of ideas and humor, to wit. You're not a better fan for towing the company line. It's okay to be critical. It's okay to be dissatisfied. It okay to have your sports soul crushed and come write about it on MGoBlog.

My bet is that accounts will be tied to FB.
No more anonimity, and once you're banned you're pretty much banned.
Like I said, I'm probably wrong but this would almost make sense.

I just felt that when someone represents themself instead of an avatar they're less likely to be an asshat. Obviously people can be anonymous and be normal (see: you) but I feel that's not always the case.
