why Hoke gets a pass here.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:52 PM ^
and he's been lights out on the recruiting trail.
I'd say he earns the benefit of the doubt if he's willing to cut ties with Borges. If he insists on keeping Borges around, then he should absolutely be under scrutiny.

Well part of RichRod's down fall was not being able to bring in a better DC to match his style of defense. Hoke deserves a chance to get a new OC, now if he doesn't, and the offense looks like this next year, then yes, he must go too.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:53 PM ^
RichRod's recruiting sucked. Big difference. Also, he insisted on the 3-3-5 - he wasn't a delegator on defense, which was a big part of the problem.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:54 PM ^
Not that hard to understand.

Who would downvote this thread?
November 9th, 2013 at 6:58 PM ^
LOL soo true, but also sooo sad. :(
November 9th, 2013 at 6:43 PM ^
Thread should stay. There's no defending Borges anymore.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:59 PM ^
That could send the wrong message that his offense is unstoppable... who am I kidding, no one would be that dumb...
November 9th, 2013 at 6:45 PM ^
November 9th, 2013 at 6:50 PM ^
Because that's going too far. Hoke is a good representative of the school and an outstanding recruiter. He just needs to hire assistants who can make better use of that talent.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:45 PM ^
I think Brian will re-asses his opinion on Borges and his job status. Our rushing attack has moved backwards the last two games. When is the last time that happened to anyone?
November 9th, 2013 at 6:59 PM ^
Pretty sure Brian is of the belief Borges should be gone. But he just doesn't think Hoke will pull the trigger. But after this game, and them all but certainly losing at least two of the next three, its going to be awful hard to stick with the guy. The offensive players have to have zero faith in the guy at this point.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:01 PM ^
Check Brian's twitter timeline. He's done with Borges.
He hasn't actually been on the defend-Al wagon this season. It's more like calculated silence, waiting to offer his verdict.
I suspect the verdict comes Monday.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:21 PM ^
If you listen to the podcasts, Brian's been reserved, but has made it pretty clear that he would have fired the guy a long time ago if it were up to him.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:45 PM ^
Fire them now. Now, god damn it, now. Reading about this team playing for FGs in the opponent's red zone is stupefying and completely unacceptable.
If I were at the stadium I would be booing too.
In conclusion, I went 0/8 in attempting to post in the liveblog. Still a complete waste of your time if you're trying to break in.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:52 PM ^
I was like 0/70! of course the last 20 or so were "In Hoke I thrust."
November 9th, 2013 at 6:57 PM ^
but there are so many comments coming in, many of which are similar to other comments, and the mods are watching the game, too.
November 9th, 2013 at 8:06 PM ^
I still think Funk deserves the benefit of the doubt. It is not his fault Borges keeps calling runs over the weakest part of our line. That and RB blocking has made matters worse (I don't think that is his responsibility). Also, it seems like every 3rd down is over 8 yards, that pretty much opens the playbook for the DC to run about anything they want.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:45 PM ^
After one of our last runs into the line for-2 yards looked like even Gardner was fed up with the playcalling.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:45 PM ^
I get not firing coaches is a good thing for continuity and everything. But if Hoke wants to keep Horges, he needs to go. Hands down. Will he? No. I don't mean this to be mean, but I think Al Borges is kind of stupid. Running out of the I-form for a loss over and over and over to run play action no one is worried about? And to do it just because you believe that that style of play is better than the style of play that actually has been working for you fore some inexplicable reason? Al Borges makes good play calls occasionally. I could do that based on my experience playing NCAA football on my xbox. He needs to do it consistently, and he does a shit shit shitttaaayyyyy job coaching Devin to be quarterback, so why is he still here. Get that fat piece of shit out of here.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:46 PM ^
Simply not good enough. He is supposed to be a good QB coach but our Army all american has regressed.

You should be able to beat Nebraska if they score 17 points. End of story.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:51 PM ^
backup tackle too!
November 9th, 2013 at 6:46 PM ^
Going away from the short routes killed us. Did Neb D make an adjustment or were Borges and Hoke refusing to throw them?
November 9th, 2013 at 7:01 PM ^
They came out with a nice drive and lots of good calls, and then...nothing. Didn't see any of those again the rest of the game. Even if Nebraska adjusted to it, you've got to have a counter to it.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:46 PM ^
If you want to be hands off on the offense, that's fine...but you should have a 2nd head coach that is basically your OC.
Same with Rich Rod and defense coordinators.

Borges has to go. The regression this year has been unbelievable.

He should be fired before he gets down to the locker room.

He's a true Michigan man and he understands the rich history of Michigan football. He knows how awesome is was to beat undefeated Ohio teams in 1993, 1995, and 1996 and he knows how much we would love it to happen again. He's going to unleash the dragon this year and beat them again. Genius.

November 9th, 2013 at 6:55 PM ^
not you too Sten?
November 9th, 2013 at 6:48 PM ^
Still, though, I honestly would not be shocked if Hoke makes zero staff adjustments at the end of the year.
The mods need to leave this thread up and open. I doubt we'd even beat Purdue with this guy calling the plays right now.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:52 PM ^
He strikes me as a guy who's level of loyalty to his staff would blind him from the situation. You would be surprised. He let a lot of guys go when he was at BSU.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:48 PM ^
November 9th, 2013 at 7:39 PM ^
The entire offensive staff should be gone with the exception perhaps of the Wr coach. Every other single position group has regressed since these guys came here three years ago.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:49 PM ^
be considered an "apologist" (though I hate the label). But even with bad execution taken into account - and there was plenty today - the play calling was an abject disaster,
I'm more than halfway on the "Fire Borges" bandwagon now.
Just horrible. Depressingly horrible.
November 9th, 2013 at 6:49 PM ^
we need to score at the end of the game?
BETTER FUCKING GO TO 4-WIDE BECAUSE IT'LL WORK
jesus christ i dont even know anymore
