Pelini: "F*** you (Nebraska) fans, f*** all of you"

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Pretty interesting stuff to say the least. On top of former QB Tommie Frazier bashing Pelini, he went on a little tirade in a presser as reported by Deadspin. There is audio of him saying it in the link.

EDIT: Thanks for the heads up on the mistake. Apparently this was in 2011. Nebraska fans are pissed all over the twitter.

"It took everything in my power to not say, 'Fuck you, fans. Fuck all of you.' Fuck 'em."

"Our crowd. What a bunch of fucking fair-weather fucking—they can all kiss my ass out the fucking door. 'Cause the day is fucking coming now. We'll see what they can do when I'm fucking gone. I'm so fucking pissed off."

At his press conference today, Pelini said

“I need to start having fun again. I do. It starts with me. I don’t enjoy my job — if I don’t enjoy what I’m doing — then how are they going to? With me it’s different. I don’t know if it’s the fact of not enjoying your job as it’s being so driven, so task-oriented, you lose sight of other things that need to be part of it."

Which might be honest, but sounds like someone who's been butting head with the boosters and administration for awhile.

It was a private comment by a very pissed off guy.

Say what you want about Pelini's anger issues, or defensive issues, the man is a very good football coach who wins 9-10 games a season. That's not a bad thing.

I honestly think Nebraska is better off with him than without him.

As I recall, OSU came into that game losing 3 of their first 5 games, and this was the first time they started Braxton Miller. Nebraska was able to make that comeback in large part thanks to Miller not being able to play the second half. Seeing what happened with Denard in Lincoln last year, this must be a trend for the Huskers, to face a major opponent after they lose their quarterback.

Would I be happy with 9 or 10 win seasons year after year? I wasn't unhappy with Carr, to be honest.

Hoke went 8-5 last year. I still like him. After the Akron game, I think we will probably wind up with an 8-9 win season, and I won't be calling for Hoke's head.

The thing that bothers me about Pelini is the on-field anger stuff, not his W-L record. He's a good football coach.

Neb has to realize...this isn't the 90's and they aren't in the Big 12 any more. Those kids from Texas and Oklahoma don't care about playing for Neb anymore.

For the loyal and crazy fanbase, in B1G terms kids are still going to pick Michigan, OSU, and PSU before Neb.

Former Bowling Green head coach Gregg Brandon had a similar tirade after the 2008 loss to Buffalo.  Had BG won, they would have won the MAC East and they were up by three possessions going into the fourth.  They coughed up the lead and lost in OT in front of less than 5,000 fans (albeit on a cold snowy windy Friday evening).  He went off on the fans and their lack of dedication in his post game conference.  The next week they waxed Toledo, their biggest rival, by four possessions.  BG dominated all day long.

The following day he was canned.

ADs cannot have their coaches hating the fans.  Fans = money = program improvements.  I have to think this is going to lead to a coaching change quickly ...

I'd be beyond disgusted with him and not allow my child anywhere near that asshole. No call for that. Team Jack and the Nebraska fans deserve a better coach than this clown of a "leader." What a dick. Seriously no excuse for saying this to a fan base especially your own!

He's gone.  He comitted the ultimate sin at Nebraska - defacto saying that they are a bunch of rubes out in the boonies.  They are very sensitive to being perceived as a second-rate destination.  He's made it clear he does not want to be there.  It's just a job to him, not a destination.

Good.  He should tell fans and former players to back off.  They are entitled to their opinions and he is allowed to feel that they are full of sh*t and are spoiled.  Doesn't mean he's doing his job well, but fans and former players love to bitch and moan because nothing happens to them.  It's like what happened here with RR; he didn't work out and that's on him, but the pissing and moaning by former players and the fans was just sour grapes.  It was like Braylon or Hart complaining about the coach.  I'm happy you played at UM once, but you are not in the lockerroom or the coach's office, and all you are doing is undermining a guy who is already on the outs.  So yeah, Frazier was a really good QB 15 years ago, but since then he's not been overly involved in the program it seems, and all he's doing is making a bad situation worse.

You do realize that Pelini said this two years ago, right?  This is not in response to Frazier's comments (although he also responded harshly to those, too).  He actually went on this rant after his team beat Ohio in 2011, weirdly enough.

I don't agree with his response to Frazier either though.  A classic "Two wrongs don't make a right" situation.  Neither one should have said anything publicly.

He said this during an off-air moment when the discussion turned to fans leaving the 2011 OSU game at halftime with the Huskers down 20-6.

Some will be offended. Personally, I thought the same thing about those fans, and I'll bet everyone on this board would say the same about Michigan fans leaving at halftime when trailing an important game. But then we're not the head coach.

And it certainly provides some ammo if NU ever decides to part ways with Bo: Chancellor Harvey Perlman said, "Basically I'm very disappointed and we're considering what to do and what the impact is on our program."

This doesn't bother me that much.  He was pissed, he said- and the fans probably deserve some of it if they did indeed leave a big game like that.  He also said this "in private" it seems.

would prefer if they started recruiting guys like Lawrence Phillips and Jason Peters again.

It's been mentioned above, but now that USC is (was?) a power, as is Stanford, and UCLA is on the rise, they're not getting stud-bolts out of Cali anymore, and since they're no longer playing the Texas schools, that pipeline's been shut off.

Regardless of who their coach is, I think the glory days might be over for that program.  Don't really see what they have to offer that can even match, let alone surpass, what other traditional powers have.

Last five recruiting classes (Rivals/ESPN rankings):

2013: #17/23

2012: #25/not in top 25 (don't have Insider, so can't see their actual #)

2011: #15/17

2010: #22/not top 25

2009: #28/not top 25

Things have not gone well for Nebraska since joining the Big Ten.

Was it a mistake?  They have lost their fertile recruiting ground of Texas.  Fighting for scraps in Ohio is no substitute.

They must have really hated Texas to uproot everythinjg and leave the conference they helped form.
