MBB Hello: Preferred walk-on PG Andrew Dakich
andrew dakich@daycheck37m
An unbelievable day in Ann Arbor and after speaking with my family about it, I have decided to attend the university of Michigan! Can't Thank all the people who helped influence me on my decision. I just want to win national championships and that's what Michigan is all about ...I am grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to the best 4 years of my life! Go blue!!!!! pic.twitter.com/J5I5eTNqaR
It's hilarious, and probably true, in an endearing-embarrassing-dad sort of way.
Appreciate it, but don't worry, I expected the moderation. It's trolling because it goes against the popular line of thinking by many here that, once someone becomes formally associated with the University, nothing negative can be spoken of said person or that person's extended family, friends, business associates, spiritual advisors, financial advisors, or pets.
It's just poor taste. This is a Hello post. Take this opportunity to congratulate the young man. You don't have to speak kindly of his father. But, you don't have to let him know how much of a dick you think his father is either. It's not like this is the last opportunity you'll have to express your Dakich dislike.
He clearly loves Michigan and wants to win. Welcome Andrew!
Hi Mrs. Dakich.
Aside from all the BS I hope he can help the team and the incident between Wright and the older Dakich isnt a distraction.
In all honesty, I'd bet half of the current team knows who Ant Wright is, at most. Maybe they will now because it would be funny as hell. Not a distraction though.
His style is not for everyone, but he knows the game and is no nonsense, old school. He didn't pass the eye test but was a heck of a player for Bobby Knight. I'm sure Andrew will surprise people under Beilein's guidance. He could be in the Novak mold of fundamentally solid kids from Indiana who will practice hard, graduate in 4 years, and do some nice things on the court. Surprising that he didn't go to IU, but then again Crean is not a good developer of talent and seems mentally unstable.
Why is it that he did not decide to do to IU?
IU was an option. Walk on interest from Purdue, Butler and UofM only, as far as I know. (at least from big time programs)
Maybe Dan Dakich's past comments about UofM basketball were genuine and did not come from any anti-UofM bias. The signing of his son as a preferred walk-on suggests the father is a UofM supporter. Perhaps the readers of this blog might want to reconsider all of their hate for the dad.
I hope Beilein can fix what I am assuming are deep and painful daddy issues.
Let me know when we get Booker this is a yawn
I'm always supportive of preferred walk ons. He'll be a fine addition.
When his father is Dan Dakich you can. Congrats to Andrew.
This is a pretty significant commitment for Michigan in the future. Obviously, Michigan has its point guard of the future in Derrick Walton and its bench guy in Spike Albrecht, but it desperately needed depth and emergency backups coming into this year. Losing guys like Akunne and Person was something not many people talked about, but it was pretty big considering they were often the 3rd string guys at the point.
I highly, highly doubt Dakich will see the floor over the next two seasons, but if he can become a guy who can get 5-10 minutes on the floor at some point in his career, that will be huge, especially considering the way Michigan's point guards have been going to the NBA. Exciting pickup!
Another son of a former player. Luckily, Dan Dakich never played in the NBA, so they can't say this kid has an NBA "pedigree" or whatever the commentators ALWAYS say about our teams.

Per the Indystar.com article (HERE), he also talked to Purdue and Butler. Here's what they had to say:
"Dakich may never start a game for the Wolverines, but he knows how to play and will be a solid addition to every Michigan practice. He loves to play the game and understands the big picture of what it takes to be successful in a walkon’s role at a Big Ten school, just as former Purdue players Dru Anthrop and Bobby Riddell did."
Like those Purdue players mentioned, they were part of depth at the guard position, which is something we definitely would prefer.
Welcome to Michigan, Andrew Dakich!
Fuck Dan Dakich.
I support his son, welcome to the family. But this doesn't mean I have to like daddy.
Hell, I'm indifferent towards Glenn Robinson, Sr. for tearing up Michigan. I def don't dislike him like I do Dan Dakich, but I'm just like "cool, thanks for having an awesome son who chose Michigan and supporting him/us at his games."
I suppose if it's true Dan Dakich can no longer work Michigan games I will learn to tolerate him. Until then...
Fuck Dan Dakich.
What did Glenn Robinson Sr. say negatively about Michigan?
Fuck Dan Dakich...
Why is stuff like this tolerated on the boards by the mods? Until we get negbangs back, can some mods punish this shit by manually negging this guy into oblivion?
How good is he at biddy basketball?
just under "elite star" status. The decision to have his kid play at Michigan just re-enforces that fact that Crean is an asshat. That is THE ONLY reason Dakich didn't want his kid to go to IU ...
Go Blue!
at IU, so I'm not sure if there was ever much of a conversation. They have 12 scholarship players (including their 6 incoming freshman) and 4 walkons returning. Don't think they're looking to fill spots.
Me thinks there is always a numbers crunch at IU!
Anyway, welcome aboard, Andrew. Great decision to play with your AAU teammate and for JB.

Saw him finish with each hand and put in a few contested shots. That's quality depth in a walk-on. Welcome, Andrew!

Welcome Andrew. Glad to have you at Michigan. Solid addition to the TEAM.

This kid could be the next Akunne, Bartelstein, and Person. He also seems to have better credentials than them, seeing that he has a recruiting page on ESPN and played AAU ball with Mark Donnal. Obviously he might not be as good as Spike Albrecht, but having this kid as walk-on is a great get. You guys need to stop hating on Dakich, if he really hated Michigan he would have made his son choose Butler or Purdue (schools in Indiana). Obviously he said a few things that were negative, but you forgive and forget, and move on. Give the kid a break! Good luck Andrew, GO BLUE!!

Congrats on your decision and I hope you have an exciting and fulfilling career at U-M.
As for his ability, his BBall IQ has to be pretty damn good, he's a good dribbler and facilatator of the ball, good enough looking shooter.
Now he may not be the most athletic or quickest guy at PG, but he doesn't need to come in right away and set the world on fire, he can grow & mature into a possible back-up role and help the team out eventually at some point.
Some people need to be more respectful on here, let's show Mich class folks.
Hail!!!
MUSIC - HHHHHAHAHAHHHAHAAHHAAHHHAHAHAAAA
Other than that, although we have issues with your father, we welcome you fully. Welcome to our family and we will support you.
Dakich is at least the third best announcer in CBB. Maybe even the best. Raftery, Bilas, and Dakich.
People that get upset at announcers are weird.
