Aaron Lynch to Transfer

Submitted by Sckon on

Going back to Florida it sounds like to be with girlfirned from the sound of it.

Edit: I want to step back from what I posted in the comments. No hard source that is girlfriend (apparently still not his fiance) is pregnant. I do not want that reported as fact, but I know that she is his high school sweetheart and was homesick.

According to Scout, Notre Dame has already lost two of their 5 stars from the past 2 recruiting cycles, 3 if you count Deontay Greenberry...

EDIT: 4 if you count Darby, as well.

Good thing they recruit so well.

So much awesome.  I had a patient who was a big ND fan this morning and I was talking about my concerns of our rebuilding O-line versus the ND front 7.

Lynch may be the best player on that D (esp at the end of last year).

...for they are once again merely a passthrough for talent, not the final destination. All that needs to happen now is for Amir Carlisle to say "just kidding" and go right back to USC.

What hurts ND more isn't the immediate effects of a solid DE in Aaron Lynch leaving, but the perception that is beginning to take hold of the program now that multiple top recruits are leaving in short periods of time.  Kelly is going to begin facing a very tough battle on the recruiting fronts, both from his own efforts as well as the negative recruiting that will take place regarding this.

A brief google search reveals plenty of tasty schadenfreude, but this pretty much sums it up.

You know, there are a ton of douchebags from every school. But in reality, who knows what the kid's reason is. You know it isn't an easy decision. Say it is because his gf is preg...IF that is the case, he is absolutely doing the right thing by taking responsibility. Some things (ie a human in the form of a baby) are more important than football. Obviously, we don't know the reason...but whatever the reason, it is HIS reason. Not some group of nimrods on a message board.

Let's assume for argument's sake that his gf is pregnant.  This ND fan thinks it takes more "balls" to stay with the football program where he'll be coddled as a star athlete than to take responsibility for his future child and transfer to be closer to his girlfriend.  Obviously they don't teach perspective to ND fans.

In his press conference Kelly just said he won't give him an unconditional release either. Considering he wants to go to somewhere in Florida this may not be as much of an issue, but still, a coach that tries to dictate where a player can and can't go? How many times have we seen this before, and how many times has this ended well for the coach??

He said he 'won't hold him back'. It likely won't be an issue since he wants to go to USF, but if told Kelly he wanted to transfer to USC, Michigan, or hell...I don't know... Navy, I'm willing to bet that Kelly's definition of 'not holding him back' would change just a bit.

And the best DE prospect that ND has had since Justin Tuck.

They still have some talent, Shembo can rush the passer, Tuitt, guys like Ben Councell and Anthony Rabasa.  Lynch however looked like a potential 1st round pick.

Wow, this is disastrous for their defense, and it certainly won't do Kelly any good with regards to his job security. At the same time, it can only bode well for us come September 22nd.

It's a good thing Leavitt isn't still at USF.  Dealing with him and Kelly in one college career would pretty much guarantee battered women's syndrome.
