Few quotes from this weekend's commits

Submitted by GoBlue21 on

OL Kyle Bosch… “This morning when I woke up, I had a weird feeling that I should get this over with and commit to Michigan.

I don’t know what else I could look for between the great academics and great coaching staff. I just felt like it was a great fit for me.

What made me commit to Michigan was the overall feel that I got from the coaching staff and just the players that I met. They’re all great people from the G.A.s to the head coach Brady Hoke. They all have very good core values and they also have just a great support staff. The trainers are great. The academic guy gave a 45-minute spiel about how they’re switching to iPads so you don’t have to lug around 30-pounds of books from class to class.

The football trainers are awesome. I talked to a few players on the team and they talked about how great they are. The strength and conditioning coach is very knowledgeable. My strength coach back home says he’s very respected in the industry and at the end of the day that was an important piece of the puzzle, to find a good strength coach.

At the beginning of the day, I started to hint that I was going to commit. I told Coach Borges maybe next month I could see myself commit. Then the director of player personnel Coach Singletary came over to me and I said maybe next week. I then went in the bathroom and talked to my mom on the phone and we talked about it, Michigan State and Stanford. It came down to academics. I have a ton of respect for Michigan State and Stanford. I think they’re both outstanding schools, but it came down to academics. Michigan is the right place for me.

After I got out of the bathroom, we went to the pep rally for the basketball game and they had the ESPN Gameday thing going on. I asked my grandfather about it. He said he was also crazy about Michigan State, but he said it’s your decision. Later on I went in the pressbox and I made a lot of phone calls to friends and family and they were all excited about it. They said it’s your decision and with the options you have you can’t go wrong with any of them. They said if you go to Alaska, we’ll come to see you play.

From there, I called Coach Dantonio at Michigan State and told him what I was going to do. I called Coach Bloomgren at Stanford and thanked them both for their time and said I was very blessed with the opportunity they gave me and I hope they have great success in the future and I know they will.

I think by then Coach Hoke and Coach Hecklinski had an idea what I was going to do. Coach Funk was with them when I came out. They were all waiting for me and I broke the news to Coach Hoke. He was excited as hell and everyone was happy.

My whole family is very excited, very happy and very proud. My grandfather is very happy and proud of me. I was really happy he got to be a part of it. I was happy he got to come up from Arizona and is warm paradise and share in the experience. My school has a big Michigan following. My friends have been texting me. Some of them are coming over when I get home and all the parents are having champaign.

I can’t you how excited I am that I’m a Wolverine. It’s going to be a fantastic experience being a Michigan Man at the University of Michigan.”  http://247sports.com/Article/Bosch-Diary-Talks-Michigan-Pledge-62059

OL Chris Fox…”It ultimately came down to the best fit for me," Fox said. "I knew that Michigan was the right fit for me when I attended camp last summer." "I just love everything about Michigan, and having family in the Kalamazoo area really helped out." http://247sports.com/Article/Fox-makes-it-five-in-one-day-62084

LB Taco Charlton…"You can't pass something like Michigan up after seeing it," Charlton said. "It's everything you want in a college." "It's crazy." Charlton said. "The coaches were going crazy. I'm just excited to be a part of the big family now." http://247sports.com/Article/Taco-gives-Michigan-6-for-Saturday-62087

OL Logan Tuley-Tillman…“Officially a Wolverine,and better yet a Michigan man,” Tuley-Tillman posted (twitter). http://247sports.com/Article/Tuley-Tillman-keeps-weekend-going-62195

I see that we are 1 of 5 teams he is warm to and the only one not in the South. Any idea if we get him or is the door closed? Does he have a timeline? Any idea what this weekend does to his train of thought? What about Pocic? Do we take both if they both want to come?

Word is he's a heavy Florida lean. He's from there and grew up a gator fan.

I'm no expert, but I bet UM is done with OL unless they take a true center prospect.

If Pocic waits until the end of the process and UM has an open spot, they could take another obvs.

He is a Florida lean, but there's definitely an interest in Michigan:

Derek Tyson @DerekTysonESPN

Tunsil on #Michigan: "I like Darrell Funk coaches the o-line. I watch Michigan games all the time and I just like the way their line plays."

I do think we have as good a shot as one can have for a kid out of Florida with no ties to the school and one who grew up as a fan of one of the in-state schools. I pretty much discounted our chances as quickly as I announced them, huh? I think we can get him on campus. It'll be tough battle to get him, but we'll see. We have a lot to offer.

Credit to Kyle Busch for calling the coaches he was turning down.

Anyone know if that is standard operating procedure, or do most recruits simply let other coaches find out via the media like everybody else?

I've also noticed that, unlike Bosch, it seems that the calls usually go in the order I described:  Call and commit ("lockign in" the decision.)  Then calling the the coaches to give them the FYI.

I suppose when you call from the Crisler Center, the other coaches probably know they don't have a chance to talk the player out of the decision, not that they would necessarily try anyway.

Fighting Illini fans must be pretty bummed to see such a good in-state class getting raided by so many other schools.  It doesn't appear that Bosch or LTT had ANY interest in the University of Illinois at all.  And it's only going to continue by the Zooks of it.  I mean, by the looks of it.  Damned Freudian typos.

Great comments, great recruits, and it is NO SURPRISE to me that Don and Softball are on here talking about Dantonio. Those two simply cannot let that school or that coach out of their heads. YUCK..

These are the kinds of times that separate us from the Alabamas of the college football world. Saban can keep his 4 and 5-stars that will jump ship after 3 years. I'll take the high-character kids who come here to prepare for life after football, but also win us some Rose Bowls, and maybe a NC on the side.

My guess is the word "NFL" never comes out of Hoke's mouth on a recruiting visit. He clearly does his homework on the type of guys he recruits.

Didn't really think about this until I came across your post, but doesn't it make sense for kids to hold no loyalty to Saban when they know that he'd drop them like a bad habbit after just one injury or a poor season?

I agree and am glad M focuses on moreso on character, family, tradition, etc. than the promise of mega millions at the next level.

that after this weekend all in-state recruits that Michigan offered have committed?

MD's weekend must have sucked! To get that call on a Saturday, and then hear the just tidelwave of future Wolverines committing. These are the creme of the crop in the Midwest, and unless MD plans to "recruit nationally" I don't see him being pleased.

This is my favorite quote from the weekend:

From LT-T

"It feels so great. Honestly I just came to a realization that these other places were great opportunities, but Michigan is where I belong," he said. "I told my mom and called my dad, and then I called Coach (Darrell) Funk and Coach (Brady) Hoke. Coach Hoke's wife was yelling when I told them."

I'd like to take some credit for Bosch's schoolmates putting subliminal messages into his head.  My buddies nephew is a classmate of Kyle's.  We gave explicit intructions that he is to wear Michigan gear until Kyle commits to the Wolverines.  Our plan worked flawlessly.
