08/30/2018 - 8:02pm Prediction:  at least one…

Prediction:  at least one Purdue player or coach will be ejected from the game.  Problems with self-control have been evident for some time.

08/27/2018 - 8:03pm We are clearly in a rapidly…

We are clearly in a rapidly-increasing culture of "free agency" in college football as well as basketball.  There is nothing inherently wrong with it from a moral or legal point of view.  College athletes are both students and employees.  As such, they should have every right to freely move from institution to institution, just as all students and employees.  The NCAA, in the name of "competition" has erected barriers to movement, but those barriers should completely come down.  In the name of "competition," the NCAA has not created such barriers to movement  for coaches.  This is the case despite the fact coaches have valuable proprietary information, and often cause "committed" recruits to join them in changing schools (as did Scott Frost).

08/18/2018 - 12:04pm This is a good example of…

This is a good example of how good intentions may have bad consequences.  There is no problem in Eric Gray raising money for a charity as part of a school project.  Every student presumably has that opportunity.  However, once he ties the success of his fund-raising to his athletic performance, it becomes a potential problem.  He has converted a simple fund-raising effort to an effort to achieve financial charitable contributions from his athletic success.  It shouldn't matter whether he choses his favorite medical charity or church or high school football program.  The matter is compounded and made worse by the fact that Michigan boosters are now being solicited to contribute as well.  Hopefully, Eric will receive some smart advice quickly and de-link his fund-raising efforts from his athletic performance.  In fact, even his endorsement could be seen as an NCAA violation.  Here is a link to a Reddit discussion on the topic:  https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/5nknrx/would_charitable_donations_be_a_ncaa_violation/

03/25/2018 - 2:09pm I don’t either leaving for the NBA unless they win it all

Neither will leave unless they win it all. They are both beholden to Beillen for their progress, are team oriented players, and will know they will have excellent chances to improve their draft stock by perfecting their respective talents under Beillen. This is not like MSU where players have doubts about how much they will improve under Izzo.

03/24/2018 - 10:09pm This game is going as predicted

We were favored by 4. Should be up by 2. We are up by 1 instead.

03/16/2018 - 11:30pm As Butch Cassidy said to the Sundance Kid:

“Who ARE those guys.”

Sorry for the double post. But seriously, ...???

03/16/2018 - 11:29pm As Butch Cassidy said to the Sundance Kid:

“Who ARE those guys.”

03/16/2018 - 1:47pm Purdue shooting is awful

Purdue shooting 33, 27, 53. Mmmmm. I don’t feel so bad about Michigan’s performance last night.

03/16/2018 - 1:38pm As bad as Big 10 teams have looked so far

As bad as Big 10 teams have looked so far, I predict their winning percentage will equal or exceed most major conferences this year.

03/16/2018 - 1:34pm Purdue with 30 in the first half

Purdue with 30 in the first half. Rust?

03/16/2018 - 12:47pm Purdue can’t hit their 3’s

Purdue can’t hit their open 3’s. Rust?

03/16/2018 - 12:36pm Texas Tech?

Texas Tech?

03/15/2018 - 11:34pm Choppy game because these are 2 good defensive teams

It’s not the refs, it’s the two good defenses causing the choppy game. No time for panic. We r not in foul trouble. We are 31-18 ahead since the lousy start.

03/13/2018 - 11:22pm Coach Alford lost this game

The UCLA coach lost the game. Failed to prepare his team to defeat the St. Bonnie zone. Didn’t put big men on the FT line, which is a must against any zone. Perimeter passing never defeats a zone.

03/08/2018 - 12:28am Wonder how many lawyers the taxpayers are paying

I’d love to see a story by MLive about the total number of lawyers and the legal costs to taxpayers so far. Plus it would be great to have real time updated cumulative costs posted prominently on their website.

02/23/2018 - 2:56pm Anybody want to have a Division II or III game during the gap?

“It’s interesting,” Delany said. “Nobody has chosen to schedule a Division II or III game in that period. That’s a little indication that they don’t want that or need that. There are positives and negatives (to the gap). Teams can rest up, put new things in and practice more. If we do well (in the tournament), everyone will be OK with it.”

01/16/2018 - 4:48pm Illegal moving pick by Tomaic allowed Huerter to get open 3

It looks like the refs could have called an offensive foul against Maryland's #33, Tomaic, for deliverately sliding into Matthews who was guarding Huerter at the end.  I believe they called several such fouls during the game but missed the critical one.  Of course, Livers, who was guarding Tomaic, could have switched to prevent the 3 from Huerter, and thus forcing a pass or a drive for a 2-point shot at most.

01/15/2018 - 8:52pm Helluva Win

for sure for the good guys. Refs missed the moving pick by Maryland which set up Huerter ‘s 3 at the end.

10/02/2017 - 12:38pm Tough challenges for O’Korn, Peters, rest of team

It is not easy to adapt to the sudden loss of the #1 QB. I wish them all good health in the upcoming games.

09/25/2017 - 6:29pm Please, please will someone please reveal the name/media outlet

of the person responsible for the ridiculous pursuit of the mythical contradiction between concern for health & safety vs. pride of overcoming hostile playing environments!!!

09/05/2017 - 12:53pm Not funny

Not funny.

09/03/2017 - 8:48pm Helluva play by Grier for WVa

Nice play by Grier. TD

09/03/2017 - 7:29pm So sorry for him; Michigan injury reports?

I feel bad for him. The game was over and he should have been on the bench when he got hit from behind. Forbes had a piece on this issue. Any Michigan injury reports?

09/01/2017 - 8:36pm Rutgers is a lot better this year

You can see it already. QB, Grant, D Line all make a big difference.

09/01/2017 - 8:35pm Rutgers is a lot better this year

You can see it already. QB, Grant, D Line all make a big difference.

08/30/2017 - 9:25pm 34-6

34-6

08/24/2017 - 11:09am Here's another pattern in Michigan losses

Here's another pattern in recent Michigan losses:

Utah -2

MSU -1

OSU -1

Iowa -1

OSU -2

FSU +1

It is difficult to win tough games with negative turnover margins.  It certainly can be done [i.e., Clemson over Alabama], but usually negative turnover margins are recipes for defeats in close games.

08/09/2017 - 10:48pm Miller is an amazing student

Miller is an amazing student, for one thing.  Apparently he has the no. 1 GPA in his class after half of high school.  His PSAT scores are very good too.  He is listed at 6'4" 310.  His school had 12 players out of their last class sign LOT's last February, including 5 Power 5 schools, plus two more will be playing for Ivy League teams.

07/30/2017 - 12:14pm Corrected the typos

Corrected the typos.

07/21/2017 - 11:35pm Looks like the USS GRF has some "issues" per The Hill

Recent story about the USS Ford 'supercarrier' in The Hill, indicating the cost for the Ford class ballooned from $27 billion to $36 billion.    http://thehill.com/policy/defense/335907-navy-accepts-delivery-of-129b-…

07/16/2017 - 9:36pm George Romero- Forever Young

Romero's Night of the Living Dead still lives and breathes today as it did back in 1968.  It is  hard to believe Romero was just 28 when he made this classic horror/cult film with John Russo.  But then again, the documentary-feel, the ironic ending, the apocalyptic texture all reflected being in your 20's during those horrific days of War and Repression.  For those in their 20's now, who are suffering the angst and anger of this age, Romero's Night of the Living Dead is still relevant.  While the production values are below iPhone-level video, the movie still holds its own, especially as a monument to a pioneering film-maker.

06/29/2017 - 12:12am Drake Johnson will be one of the most important players

Drake will be one of the most important players on the team, along with McCray, Hill, Poggi, Cole and Mone.  These senior players have all fought adversity, from injuries to position changes, and have succeeded.  We will have plenty of young talent, but these guys are battle-tested warriors who can provide the necessary leadership successful teams need on and off the field.

05/08/2017 - 12:18am Go Joe Go; A Gun of an Arm

When a Florida QB makes an aggressive decision to attend Michigan, a distant cold-weather top-academic institution, nothing but good things will happen. I'm as excited about Joe as any other QB recruit in the last 50 years I've been following Michigan football. There are various qualities which make up a successful Michigan QB, BUT nothing as important as the intense desire to compete, which forms the capability to lead and perform under intense pressure on the greatest of all stages. Joe did not make the easy coice of an FSU, Miami, Florida or other SEC school. By making the tough choice, he has demonstrated in objective fashion his decision-making ability. He will stay, he will be a Champion.

05/03/2017 - 5:32pm No hype

Ty is an excellent back. His PT has been low because of fumbles, period. There is no "attitude" problem, so don't make it up by speculating when you have no facts. He will play plenty this year if he holds on to the ball. Smith got carries because he consistently held on to the ball (except at Rutgers, which led HIM to be limited to 5 carries.)

05/03/2017 - 3:55pm Cover up by MSU Follows Baylor, Penn State

When will public administrators learn that covering up for accused students and coaches NEVER is the moral and smart response to allegations of sex abuse or other crimes? All the facts can NEVER be suppressed. Transparency is the best policy. If the school has enough information to suspend a student or coach pending further investigation or criminal prosecution, it should release that information to the public. That is your job when you are paid by the public and ostensibly serve the public. For those who want to delve in the Michigan FOIA provisions, look here: http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/access-public-records-michigan

04/30/2017 - 11:14pm I saw Mike Schmidt hit 4 HR's

Against the Cubs in Wrigley April 17, 1976. 5 for 6, but only 8 RBI's. Phillies won 18-16. (Cubs were ahead 12-1 in the game, but we knew they were going to lose.). http://www.baseball-almanac.com/boxscore/04171976.shtml

04/30/2017 - 12:00pm "UCLA host the camp in Georgia"?

What?  Harbaugh and other UM coaches participating in Valdosta State camp, yes.  But UCLA? Nope.  UCLA's camp in LA will have Harbaugh.

04/29/2017 - 3:39pm Utah 6, including 3 OL!!!!

Utah has 6 draft picks so far, including 3 OL, which I believe leads the country.  They lost last year to Oregon, Cal, Colorado and Washington; barely beat Indiana in the bowl game.  Go figure.

04/26/2017 - 7:45pm Don't mourn, Organize!

I find the story of Chantel’s layoff, and of the layoffs of dozens of her colleagues, to be a sad one. Chantel herself is obviously a good journalist, classy, and talented. But the ESPN layoffs are a reminder of the pervasive instability and unfairness of our economic/social system. Disney from its beginning has been an anti-worker, anti-union outfit. Today, its stock price closed up, an increase of 11% just this year. As the Dude said, “This Aggression will not stand, man.” Eventually, workers in the internet age will learn to use the vast power of its technology to organize, unite and implement a more stable and equitable economy.

04/12/2017 - 5:20pm Yes, Luigi will be fine

Luigi will be fine as a backup to Chase. But he will have competition too. Mattison will probably play 10 to 12 DL's, most at multiple positions.

04/09/2017 - 9:23pm Wrong on seniors

A majority of eligible seniors will get their 5th year.

03/21/2017 - 5:12am Pritchard is the weakest link for Oregon

He is a freshman point guard. His numbers are pedestrian, offensively and defensively. Michigan has 2 excellent point guards who can pressure Pritchard into mistakes when he's handling the ball and drive into the paint when he's defending.

03/19/2017 - 7:36pm Who will Izzo blame?

His freshmen? The refs? Injuries? Place your bets now.

03/19/2017 - 7:16pm Is anybody seriously rooting for Izzo?

Izzo is not a nice person; he is a bully and a whiner.

03/19/2017 - 5:45pm Bridges back in

Bridges back

03/19/2017 - 12:54am Need rule change to prevent future goaltending no call

NCAA needs to use cameras on the baskets to avoid these kind of no calls. Allow refs to check video at next time out, just like 3's. Refs gave 4 points to Gonzaga at critical moment. NW had come back to within 3. Unforgivable!

03/18/2017 - 4:26pm Refs favoring Nova

Refs trying to give the game to Nova. Can Wisconsin deal with the calls?

03/18/2017 - 4:23pm Michigan will win

Michigan will win because we remember. Never forget, never forgive.

03/15/2017 - 5:32pm My advice to young men

No fighting; not with anyone, boys or girls, men or women. Just....walk.......away. Let the testerone flow on the field and in the weight room and nowhere else. Jourdan got involved in a fight and whether he was legally in the right or wrong, he will suffer. May his suffering be short and mild; may he gain wisdom in the process.

03/15/2017 - 5:16pm Forte & Solomon

Forte and Solomon are not good enough to get minutes at Michigan, I believe.
