Shane Morris on the recruiting trail

Submitted by Vader on

Just another example of Shane Morris being a great ambassador for the program. If he is making an impression with 2012 recruits, I can't wait to see how he will supplement his own recruiting class

That is a pretty powerful tweet based on the situation of Revees and his relationship with Michigan and OSU.  Armani Reeves seems like a guy that won't let outside influences impact his decision.  He will do what's best for him.

I love this young man and what he is all about. How much he loves the U-M Program and how much he seems to care in general, I love people who give a damn about what they do and not just go through the motions like they're doing everybody a favor just by existing.

Can't wait to see Shane in a winged helmet and winging that ball to a bevy of fine WR's and TE's and RB's, hope Armani is part of this class, Go blue!

The recruiting point is a good one. Who knows about HC (we don't know what his ambitions are, and he probably doesn't either, being in high school), but with his love for Michigan, talent, and natural recruiting skills I could see him on staff at some point way down the line.

eeehh I don't know about that.  If he lives up to his idol Tom Brady's career he probably won't want to take time away from his Brazilian supermodel wife to come coach here. And I wouldn't blame him one bit.  For not coaching, that is.  I would still blame him for making me hate my life.

I love the enthusiasm, but let's keep a level head here. He still has a year left of high school and posts like this are already talking about hailing Shane as the savior and his post-NFL career, if he even has one.

I'm not at all saying I don't want to agree with you. I hope Shane brings us to 4 Rose Bowls or NCs and wins all of them. I want him to go 1st overall in the draft, and put the likes of MSU back in its place in this state. But we're talking about stuff so far in the future here that its kind of ridiculous. I hope this kid lives up to the hype and then some, but I prefer to withold my predictions until after he straps on the winged helmet and gets a season under his belt. We have absolutely no idea how his career will turn out.

Shane is the man.  I hope he can bring some top notch WR's in.  I wouldn't get too excited about Reeves though.  It looks like he is going to Ohio with his teammate.  Got that from the Rivals show on yahoo radio.   Seemed like he knew what he was talking about.

On the surface, Ohio looks like they're in good shape.  Best friend committed, Urb, etc.  Just look at the tweet in the OP and what that means.  Same with Garnett.  Have you seen either of these guys tweeting anything personal about Ohio or Stanford players/recruits/coaches ?  Absolutely not (I follow both players on Twitter).

Obviously, there's no science to predicting what an 18 year old kid is thinking -- believe me, I have one of my own !!  That being said, their tweets are a subtle way of tipping their hands as to which way they are leaning at that particular moment.  With both Reeves and Garnett, I believe they are leaning our way (at least they are at this particular moment).

I really hope you're right. I think ND at this point is out of the picture, and it comes between us and Stanford. Both schools offer exactly what he wants. He will play at a high level and get a great education no matter where he goes. The question now is where he feels more comfortable. I'd tell you in that facet to give Michigan the nod, seeing as how Brady has a way of building great relationships with his players, and his relationship with Magnuson, but Stanford's a lot closer to home.

I think its a tossup as to who gets him, because he knows that he really can't make a wrong choice. Still, though, if we get him, and possibly Diamond, it will likely be the making of the greatest offensive line recruits Michigan has ever assembled in one class.

Eh, that would seem logical, but Reeves said that his teammate going to Ohio didn't change his decision at all. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders when it comes to this decision, and I think he knows that there are more important criteria.

I'm not a recruiting expert, like I'm sure someone working at Rivals is, but it's possible that they're reading too much into the teammate situation when there isn't actually something there. Or maybe they know something. But Reeves addressed it, as far as I know.

Either way, saying you love the Michigan QB is pretty blasphemous if you end up playing at Ohio, so it's gotta mean something. If a tweet can mean something.

Call it wishful thinking...but I doubt they have enough time to scour all of the fanblogs (in this case, Tremendous) to figure which way a kid is leaning.  They have A LOT of recruits to analyze for all programs, not just Michigan.

So, based on timing, I would say that perhaps we know something they don't based on last nights (late) interview.  I mean, think of how many recruiting gurus we have in contact with Michigan recruits and compare that to Rivals having 5 guys for the entire country.

Again...just speculation...

Uh, Armani, Shane is not the illest QB since Peyton Manning, since the illest of all ill is just a couple years younger than Peyton, and his name is Tom Brady.  I'd be cool with Shane being the illest since TB though.

Devil's advocate type-question (since I don't live in MI anymore and know nothing of the DLS program):

Is Morris really as good as everyone thinks?  He looks great at the camps, has the arm, etc.  But his Junior season stats were more 3-star than 5-star (per maxpreps: 1680 yards, 51% completion rate, 19 TDs, 7 INTs).

He can obviously throw - but why are his stats so... normal?  Some combination of bad coaching, terrible OL and poor WRs?  Honest answers only please.

From what I have read, his receivers dropped a lot of passes and he was running for his life more often than not. Granted I don't live in Michigan anymore either but this is coming from people who watched him play this year.

They'd have cut out your tongue for such blasphemy.

Honestly, though, it'd be one thing if it were just homerism from the site and fan base.  I think the numbers are reflective of his surrounding talent to some degree. And all of the scouting services seem to be sold on the kid as well-- the coveted fifth star is rarely handed out by accident, is it?

If you believe what you read here (as you should) and watch his highlight film, you can see his O-line is not all that great and he's always having to scramble and from what everyone says, his WR's weren't very dependable. Some other teams fans will be quick to also point out his lack of offers but that obviously has to do with his self professed love of Michigan rather than his talent. From what I've read out of national writers from his camps he's going to be a major talent, so I wouldn't be putting too much stock into his JR HS numbers.

It's not a bad point to bring up and is good for discussion.  There is a struggle with scouting recruits over where to base more emphasis - on on-field play or camps.  The nice thing about camps is that it either isolates the players to see their skills, or surrounds them with the level of players they'll be with in college.  However, things are different when you strap up the pads.  Looking at HS tape and stats is the other option, which shows a recruit in an actual game, but you have huge variables in the talent of his teammates as well as his opposition.

What does this mean?  Look at both, and be subjective.  But in this case, it has been documented how bad Shane's OL and WR play was during his season, as well as how well he looked compared to other QBs at a number of camps.  His measurables are also about as good as you can ask for in a 16 year old kid.  So I tend to believe he's the real deal.

I heard he's renting out a private jet and starting to make house visits.  He's the best recruiter since that guy who used to work for Urban Meyer....Greg something....

Everyone slow down on Shane.  It remains to be seen how good he will be on the college level, let alone in the pros.  Personally, I think there is more than a decent chance he will be average in college based on the tape I have seen so far.
