Urban Flippin Recruits: Sevon Pittman
Just saw this tweet...
JoshBDraft 4Star DE Sevon pittman Visit from urban Meyer tonight. Will commit to OSU & decommit from MSU
He is a writer for a scouting site. Think we all saw this one coming. Dont think Sparty, Penn State, and Wisconsin will be big fans of Ohio when the smoke clears.

but he's about to dunn get flipped.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
No one saw that coming...

Just like USC wasn't going to get hammered? Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting them to get hammered, but if they're selling that to the recruits, then it's BS. They don't know, but what other choice to they have? Gotta sell like you have no problems and then hope for the best.
December 13th, 2011 at 12:20 AM ^
Yea, i agree with you but I really don't get why Meyer would accept the job without knowing what's coming.
December 13th, 2011 at 12:34 AM ^
He trusts his athletic director and his president.
At least that's what he told us at his first presser...and I don't know why he'd say something that stupid if it wasn't true.
December 13th, 2011 at 8:29 AM ^
I think Meyer may be expecting some pain to come OSU's way. Give's him a chance to start the program his way (whatever that will look like) and if he takes a few losses along the way he has a built in excuse.
Shocking about Pittman.
December 13th, 2011 at 8:33 AM ^
They'll lose a couple of scholarships a year for a few years. Given the shennanigans that are available, that's no big deal. They won't be able to go to a bowl in 2012-13. That's bad, but if you're an incoming freshman, it's not a big deal, especially if you're going to be redshirted. I may be wrong, but that's your fallback when you're selling Ohio to recruits.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:55 PM ^
Nope, that can't be it.
December 13th, 2011 at 9:59 AM ^
About 40 million reasons if what I've read is correct.
December 13th, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
Why did Kiffin accept the USC job when he knew they were getting hammered?....its their dream coaching job.
December 13th, 2011 at 11:38 AM ^
If USC got hammered by the NCAA it didn't turn out the result they wanted on the field. They are not exactly struggling under these sanctions.
December 13th, 2011 at 12:53 PM ^
Exactly. I think Urban Meyer believes that, even WITH sanctions, scholly losses, a bowl ban, he can build a power at OSU. Add to it that this is his "dream job" (maybe) and that it might not come back open for years, and add in the salary they offered him and it is a no brainer to take it.
December 14th, 2011 at 9:56 AM ^
I wouldn't put it past Urban and Ohio to lie to their recruits to get them in the door just so they won't go to another B1G school. Once a scumbag always a scumbag (I bet Urban goes to fine line and gets that tattoed on his arm with the block "O")
December 13th, 2011 at 12:33 AM ^
Really all that happened was that he moved to a different circle of hell. I don't see what the big deal is.
December 13th, 2011 at 8:14 AM ^
Like all the levels of Hell in Dante's Inferno...combined. I feel for anyone who goes and plays there.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
They can take out the trash as far as I'm concerned of the guys we didn't want. Notice how nobody from Michigan is switching, and Dunn may switch to Michigan. Sucks to be a Sparty fan though your one good recruit leaves.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
Lets not count our chickens just yet.
December 13th, 2011 at 12:05 AM ^
If he wasn't coming to Michigan I really wish he wasn't going to OSU or MSU. And people saying Schutt isn't any good are not seeing things clearly. I like Michigan's commits a lot and think they will do really well, but OSU has a solid D-line coming in with Washington in that mix. The Big Ten is going to keep producing tons of NFL talent from the D-lines.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:13 PM ^
Kalis > Washington, Magnuson > Pittman. Problem solved!
December 13th, 2011 at 9:36 AM ^
Definitely true, but at the same time, I'm sure part of the reason UM commits wouldn't be switching is the stigma that comes with spurning one school for the other, in particular Michigan and Ohio. I don't think Kalis could ever drop out of here and recommit and it'd be like nothing happened, not that he's planning to. MSU commits wouldn't have many problems switching to Ohio because its not like they have much of a rivalry with each other. If it involves UM, its a different story.
December 13th, 2011 at 12:27 PM ^
You do realize, though, that Kalis originally committed to osu, before decommitting and then committing to U-M, right?
December 13th, 2011 at 10:33 AM ^
To be fair they still have Aaron Burbridge...

Everyone saw this coming long before Urban Meyer was named head coach.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
This is true. Schutt and Pittman both commited to their back-up schools and still were always on the market. I mean Pittman pretty much said he's only committed to Michigan State till something better comes around. Washington was going to Ohio State regardless and other than those three, no new commits.
Urban's dangerous in recruiting but I'm still confident in Hoke and Mattison. I don't think Meyer will be able to lock down Ohio like Tressel did. I'm interested to see Meyer in another high-profile job and to see if he can repeat his success.
December 12th, 2011 at 11:52 PM ^
No one will lock down Ohio like Tressel did. That's why I'm fine with them getting Meyer and I'm not going to get mad if they get a slap on the wrist by the NCAA. The real victory was Tressel "retiring".
December 13th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
You can't lock down a state without the key ingredients...and these are unavailable to Urban Meyer's new regime (at least he hopes they are)....

If Meyer were recruiting for OSU against late Lloyd and RR...yeah, I think he would have gotten whoever he wanted from Ohio, maybe even gotten kids like Jordan Hicks. This is a different dynamic at this point. Not to say that Meyer can't do extremely well in Ohio but as is almost every year, you can't take everyone from Ohio, there is simply too much talent.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
Wait, who is this guy, and how would he have this information before everyone else?
December 12th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^
I felt the same way. But, just saw Bill Greene from Scout say the same thing on the twitters.
December 13th, 2011 at 9:43 AM ^
Bill "Bank" Greene? Is Bank his middle name or is he hinting at his relationship with OSU's football program?

The affected bravado rings a little hollow after four years of failure against your "Little Brother".
Your reaction to this news tells all you need to know about where your priorities are. Rather than saying "Damn, our rival got a good recruit", you're saying "LOLZ SPARTY HURR". How the mighty have fallen...
December 13th, 2011 at 6:09 AM ^
December 13th, 2011 at 8:19 AM ^
Sorry, I fell asleep for 3 years.
What is this "mighty have fallen" and such people are speaking of? When I went to sleep we had just beaten Florida in the Capital One Bowl, man that was quite a fall. Now in the Sugar Bowl, I don't think we fell far!
December 13th, 2011 at 5:02 PM ^
I mean, it does ring a little hollow until we actually beat them....
December 12th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
Wow. Dantonio must feel like a tragic hero to see his dream school stealing his recruits.

Flip all he wants. The way our coaches develop talent I'm not at all worried.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:31 PM ^
I think every fanbase uses this excuse about every coach.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:54 PM ^
I find, however, that the defensive turn around this year is indicative of our coaching staffs ability to develop. Urban was always able to recruit at Florida but, as his odd departure seems to indicate, he's not so good at developing that talent.
