Sagarin's Out - Michigan 17 (actually 23) - Don't Panic
EDIT- Here's a link:
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt11.htm?loc=interstitialskip
Sagarin is a little whack this year, but this is part of the BCS formula. I think the important thing we are ranked ahead of Michigan State. This is probably a good thing. The TA&M/Texas/Missouri silliness shouldn't matter - the voters will take care of that. He also has USC ranked, and they're not eligible.
EDIT 2: As a few people have pointed out, the BCS only uses the ELO_CHESS Sagarin rankings. Those have us at 23rd. Please do not panic. Sagarin is only one of six computer polls used by the BCS. This amounts to 1/18th of the final ranking.
I have taken down the ranking to avert panic. Remain calm. Repeat: remain calm.

A&M and Texas? Da Fuck?
December 4th, 2011 at 1:36 AM ^
Was thinkin the same thing...
December 4th, 2011 at 2:24 AM ^
My head is about to explode. Not due to the fear of not making a BCS bowl but due to the fact that a billion dollar business cannot come up with a system that manifests at least some common sense. I mean.... fergodsakes!
December 4th, 2011 at 6:31 AM ^
I said this in an earlier thread, The BCS needs to boot Sagarin' out of their computer polls next year. He's just playing around year after year and doesn't seem to care if his algorithm leads to ridiculouis results.
BTW, letting him count margin of victory is probably even worse. His past stupid polls are a big part of the reason the computer polls aren't allowed to.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:25 AM ^
Is that up or down from last week?
December 4th, 2011 at 1:27 AM ^
Up - we were 19 last week. Our SOS went down from 38 to 42, though. Sagarin loves the Big 12 this year. Look at Texas A&M.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:26 AM ^
Texas 16 w 4 losses???
<br>
December 4th, 2011 at 1:27 AM ^
Texas has 5 losses after today.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:30 AM ^
Even worse
December 4th, 2011 at 1:26 AM ^
no way the horns and aggies are ahead of us
December 4th, 2011 at 1:27 AM ^
Um....Texas lost....but yet they're ahead of us...what? Texas A n M? HUH? Mizzou? Wha?! Is this some kind of joke? This looks liek rankings from 4 or 5 weeks ago.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:27 AM ^
why would Oklahoma be 4th? and Texas move ahead of us?
December 4th, 2011 at 1:27 AM ^
Texas? huh?
December 4th, 2011 at 1:27 AM ^
What is this list based on again? It seems weird for any criteria I can think of.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:28 AM ^
If I'm reading the espn website right, this is actually a good thing. We went from 22 to 17 and Baylor went down actually from 7 to 10.

Exactly
December 4th, 2011 at 1:31 AM ^
December 4th, 2011 at 9:23 AM ^
BCS uses ELO CHESS. Michigan fell from 22 to 23. Baylor held steady at 7.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:28 AM ^
How does Texas move up 6 after getting blown out by Baylor? (I'm assuming this is BCS prediction? I know nothing about what Sagarin is...)
December 4th, 2011 at 1:30 AM ^
This is just one computer poll out of 6 in the BCS. Texas was actually 13 last week,. so they moved down.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:28 AM ^
BULLSH*T!!!!!!!!!
December 4th, 2011 at 1:28 AM ^
Oklahoma stays at #4 with 3 loses? What a useless poll.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:28 AM ^
December 4th, 2011 at 1:29 AM ^
This list is insane. Sagarin's metric: throw darts at a list of teams. Rank accordingly.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:48 AM ^
This is a BCS formula. Not his.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:29 AM ^
December 4th, 2011 at 1:34 AM ^
The BCS makes computer polls suspect, by not allowing them to use points, yards or other stats.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:50 AM ^
but this list doesn't even look like it takes WINS and LOSSES into account! How can you say computers are any more credible than human polls when OU, Texas, Missouri, and A&M are where they are.
The Big 12 isn't THAT strong this year. Sheesh.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:29 AM ^
This is a joke, right? Texas A&M has 6 losses and they're ranked 13th?
December 4th, 2011 at 1:32 AM ^
He has Texas A&M ranked 17th in the poll that the BCS uses. Not much better, but better than 13th.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:29 AM ^
Am I missing something?
December 4th, 2011 at 1:29 AM ^
This is a joke. Sorry. Whatever criteria this thing uses it is completely inaccurate. I don't even understand....
December 4th, 2011 at 1:29 AM ^
Don't worry - Saarin's ratings are terrible and extreme. This is an improvement since last week, and this will probably be our lowest, tossed out computer ranking.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:33 AM ^
a good thing these aren't the BCS rankings, otherwise I would be extremely pissed right about now. Not sure what criteria Sagarin's uses, but whatever it is, it clearly makes no sense. Don't tell me this is what the BCS computer rankings look like or something.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:33 AM ^
I've been complaining about his rankings all year, but his algorithm is so awful that I really think its place in the BCS needs to be examined.
December 4th, 2011 at 9:32 AM ^
Sagarin's algorithm says Michigan is the 9th best team in the country. I think that's pretty favorable. I'm a MIchigan fan, and even I don't think we're the 9th best team in the country.
The problem is the BCS doesn't want to incent teams to run up the score to improve their rankings, so they removed margin of victory from all BCS computer rankings. So, Sagarin computes a second rating that takes a key component of his algorithm out, it becomes politically correct, and the results are completely wonky.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:31 AM ^
You are using the wrong Sagarin poll. The Sagarin poll that the BCS uses has us 23rd. We actually fell a spot.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:31 AM ^
This feeds a computer average, is all. That we went UP in this one is a great sign, you'd suspect we'll go up in every other computer and our computer average goes up.
I think the stupid results for A&M and Texas goes like this: Big XII did very well non-conference. Thus, the conference as a whole kicks butt. A team that loses 4-5 games IN the conference is still BETTER than teams from out of the conference.
Duh?
Stupid toasters.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:31 AM ^
da fuck is this. Did the Big 12 commisioner come up these rankings. sooners 4th LOL, Texas 16 with 5 loses...terrible rankings
December 4th, 2011 at 1:31 AM ^
Are a "rah-tard". Please don't post things just to get a rise out of people - it's quite childish and stupid. Leave now. Thanks.

of posting this? its clearly inaccurate.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:34 AM ^
Looks like the BCS uses only ELO_CHESS from Sagarin ratings, which would put us at 23. Down one spot from last week. The problem with computers... is that man makes them...
December 4th, 2011 at 1:36 AM ^
You are right. The BCS uses the ELO Chess rankings, which is not what the OP is showing.
THe BCS computer polls are pathetic, because they can't use margin of victory.
December 4th, 2011 at 2:05 AM ^
We are 9th in his metric that includes margin of victory.
What a joke.
Changing gears: Death to the bcs. It's better than the old system but how long is this playoff thing going to take?
Somebody needs to join Dan Wetzel in making it his life mission to get a playoff, any playoff, to happen ASAP
December 4th, 2011 at 2:23 AM ^
If this kind of shit is what comprises the BCS rankings, the old system was waaaaaay better.
I'd rather have 10 champions than one decided by so phony a metric.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:42 AM ^
a screwed up poll.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:34 AM ^
Sagarin's methodology: Big 12>>>>>>>everything.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:48 AM ^
It weighs out of conference play, in which the Big 12 dominated.
December 4th, 2011 at 1:35 AM ^
Oklahoma is the #4 team in the country? The 9-3 Oklahoma team that just lost by 5 touchdowns?
Texas A&M is #13? The 6-6 Texas A&M team that just fired its coach?
6-6 Texas A&M is ranked ahead of the Texas team that beat them? The 7-5 Texas team ranked 16th?
