Why Michigan Defeated Ohio (according to some Ohio fans)
I thought I might share this with my fellow fans and it's killing me that I don't have a link to provide, as it appears this post was taken down from the site. It was just on there a couple days ago but I just can't find it unfortunately. I e-mailed the text to Brian, so that is where I got it from (just pasted it here of course). The bold text below was a post on the Ohio ESPN message board for Michigan fans and of course, it's full of nothing but lame excuses. Oh what selective memory Ohio fans have, as they cannot recall the flux the Michigan program and fans went through in 2008, 2009, and maybe you can throw 2010 in there. Again, I apologize for not having a link, but this was really on their board.
Congratulations. You did it!! You finally did it!! After 10 grueling years of merciless beat-downs and coming up short in the few close games (save one) you finally put together the winning recipe to beat the team that caused your players pants to be yellow. You rose up in talent and skill, in game planning and sheer determination, in coaching and spirit, and you "feasted" on a dominant OHIO STATE team, coming away with a 6 point victory at home, failing to cover the spread. We are back you say!! Right? Or..... are you really saying are we back??

40-34

57-44-6. Bitches.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
Every time I see that commercial, I fucking crack up. I couldn't believe it the first time.
They already have a band that looks like a fascist army on parade, and now this. 'Thanks to the genius doctors at OSU, I don't have to be self-conscious at my Aryan Nation meetings any more!'
Really, that was the only gesture they could think of to prove that his hand was steady?
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
The record is actually 58-43-6
Their victory last year doesn't count and you didn't add on our win this year.
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:25 PM ^
58-44-6
December 2nd, 2011 at 4:35 PM ^
since last year's game was vacated, it should be 58-43-6.
December 2nd, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
It was 57 wins before we beat them this year. Now it's 58-44-6.
December 2nd, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
You obviously didn't read the letter. We didn't beat them this year.
December 2nd, 2011 at 5:00 PM ^
Despite the fact that OSU vacated their 2010 victory over Michigan, Michigan does not vacate their loss. Thus, Michigan is 58-44-6 against OSU, while OSU is 43-58-6 against Michigan.
This doesn't make any sense at all, but that's the way it is recorded in the record books. Which begs the question: shouldn't Michigan have self-imposed the "punishment" of vacating 2008 when it was discovered that the team was committing "major" NCAA violations that year?
December 2nd, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
When you vacate a season, you only vacate the wins, not the losses. If we would have vacated 2008, our record for that season would have been 0-9, so I don't see why you would want that.
Last year, OSU officially went 0-1.
December 2nd, 2011 at 6:54 PM ^
...vacating wins was the penalty for fielding ineligible players, something Michigan did not do.
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:51 AM ^
Michigan won.
See you next year.
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
What did you expect?
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:53 AM ^
when they beat the worst UM team ever it's cus they are good
when we beat a shitty OSU team its cos they are bad
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:49 PM ^
By his logic then, Ohio's winning streak against us was only 3 games, not 7.
2007 doesn't count because Michigan was bad because its key players were injured. 2008-2010 doesn't count because Michigan was bad because of the failed Rich Rod experiment.
OK, whatever.
For the record, our 10-2-1 streak against Ohio still counts in full. Don't care how good or bad OSU was.
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
I love his long list of how bad Ohio sucked this year though.
December 2nd, 2011 at 5:20 PM ^
None of their streak ever counted. 2006 doesn't count because their grass field was too slippery. In 2005 we lost because Carr punted, not because of anything they did. 2004 doesn't count because they used bomb-sniffing dogs before the game.
We actually have a two-game winning streak in the series.

validate the author's intent.
His letter means nothing if shared amongst Buckeye fans only. Once it starts getting spread around Michigan fans...... mission accomplished. Good job.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:49 PM ^
I think you're a little confused as to his intent. His intent is to infuriate Michigan fans, but it didn't work because Michigan won the game and what it REALLY accomplished was being made a fool because of it.
December 2nd, 2011 at 4:59 PM ^
It was to stir the pot. 146 posts on this stupid topic tells me his intent was fulfilled.
And you were his accomplice.
Troll OSU boards all you want.... but don't bring it here.
December 3rd, 2011 at 1:30 PM ^
Sorry, mate. I think you're wrong and obviously other people do, too. I don't troll the Ohio boards either. I stated in this thread somewhere that I just checked out the Ohio board to see what kind of bitching and excuses they were giving and found that beauty. You're probably the only one here who doesn't find this amusing.

Also, note the flawed logic. He argues that Meyer will both shut down Ohio's borders while also recruiting a ton of talent out of Florida. His brain failed to realize that both cannot simulatenously be done, as scholarships are limited.
I say let them live through their football/basketball programs. It would suck enough to live in the state of Ohio, let alone find a job with a degree from "The" Ohio State University.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
In the mighty SEC, at least until recently, scholarships really weren't limited - even today, they can still sign 100 to our 85 over a four year period. I do believe that the President of the U of Florida has spoken out against the practice, which might be one of the reasons Meyer left.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:25 PM ^
Florida is the one SEC school that doesn't over recruit; even during Meyer's tenure. Very comparable numbers to the Big Ten.
December 2nd, 2011 at 1:26 PM ^
Neither does Georgia.
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
Urban left because of sliminess at Florida, he did not want to coach a school involved with any ncaa violations or anything.
December 2nd, 2011 at 4:08 PM ^
Florida's stance on oversigning is to be commended. Urb recruiting a crime wave to Gainesville...uh, not so much. Lock your doors, Columbus!
December 3rd, 2011 at 12:06 AM ^
their doors were already locked from the Tresell era.

Not even a week, and it's already eating at them. It's going to be a long year Buckeyes. You might as well start getting used to it.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:14 PM ^
Please tell me that missile is heading for a laser-guided target in Columbus
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
I guess this guy doesn't believe that you throw all records out the window in rivalry games.
I also assume he admits that all those top 5 OSU teams that lost to 4-loss Michigan teams in the Cooper years were overrated with "falsely inlfated heights"
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
I wonder how long it took him to think of all of those. That is one sorry letter!!
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
Michigan won. Times are changing and Michigan won. Get over it dude! Michigan got jobbed on Toussaint's TD, Ohio basically lucked out in the turnover dept - you can play the "lucky" card all day long. Michigan was lucky Braxton's accuracy isn't good. Ohio was lucky Michigan didn't snag their fumble and lucky the replay official blows a wad.
Michigan's 5-7 bowl-less 2009 team lost to the BCS bound Ohio team by a score of 21-10 and threw the game with mass-turnovers in the red-zone. Michigan lost. End of story. Excuses are lame.
So, in summary, a loss is a loss is a loss is a loss. Just a typical fan - losing to a rival then reverting back to recent wins and a future of hypotheticals.
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
They danced and sang when they beat a down UM team. Bg deal. After 7 straight you'd think they could just shut up and take their medicine, but then you remember who you're dealing with.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:56 PM ^
When our 9 game win streak against Penn State ended, it just ended. End of story.
No excuses, no taking away from the fact that streaks don't last forever. They beat us. It was not a conspirency, it was not flaw in the fundamental logic of the universe. We did not like it, but they beat us. We moved on.
Deal, Buckeye.
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
in all seriousness, i dont think buckeye fans respect the rivalry. i think the players and luke fickell do, but not the fans. all i heard was we are down, and we need to win mnc's instead of beating the wolverines. the commentators, all of them, never said a word about beating us, always mnc's. robert smith, herbie, and down the line. they take it for granted.
i went to michigan, grew up loving nd, now i hate them. but, while i was in school, early 90's, we worried about beating nd, and ohio and msu was an afterthought. i didnt like ohio, but didnt care. i thought we would always beat them. felt sorry for msu and their crap program in the 90's.
i think buckeye fans feel like we did in the 90's. even urban never mentioned us in his interview. i think he is in for a surprise. when you get overlooked, you become real dangerous as we have found out.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:03 PM ^
You're exactly right. OSU and even MSU fans have just become totally insufferable. I know all fanbases have them (UM's included), but it is never about the rivalries anymore, it's just about how bad someone can bash the other team verbally. No one will listen to reason. I absolutely hate dealing with OSU and MSU fanbases anymore...it's no fucking fun.
December 2nd, 2011 at 1:39 PM ^
What is even worse for Ohio "fans" is fans in 49 states (even here in SEC country) believe Ohio is the dirtiest program in college football and everything they accomplished in Saint Tressel's tenure was illicit. They have zero respect outside of Ohio, but hey, they have each other and unfortunately they have us to remind of their past glory and future delusion of dominance. When you lose, I guess that is all you have.
Try to take away our joy you insufferable bastards. I laugh at you, and so does most of America.
