Go with skiing.  Beyond the falling and catching edges it also takes a ton of energy to get around on a snowboard, plus constantly sitting/standing to get your boot in and out for the lifts.

If you stick with snowboarding you definitely want to find some padded shorts.

Sooo if Michigan loses a…

Sooo if Michigan loses a game early and then runs the table, including The Game to have the best B18 record only to face OSU again a week later in a rematch… which they lose… but still go on to make the playoffs.  Please explain how nothing has changed.

Next year with the 12 team…

Next year with the 12 team playoff and no conference divisions the regular season will already be essentially meaningless through the lens of an entire season living or dying with a field on October.  I guess we’ll all be hanging on convoluted tie breakers for most of the season.  There will never be that bottomless pit that hope and joy died in after the 2006 OSU loss only to experience the elation of watching Oregon State bat down that 2 pt conversion pass to upset #3 USC.
As for players and opting out - as the playoff expands further I would think at some point there won’t be bowls to opt out of.  Also, this seems to all be heading towards contracts with some amount of team control and you’d think financial incentive to play every game.

If the Bears v Packers regular season  rivalry games get your juices flowing then you’re in luck.

What?  Really nasty??  Leaving aside your once per century type outlier the weather here in November is about the same "unpleasant" that it is for every month not named July or August.  I absolutely hate Seattle weather but really nasty?  C'mon.

Last time I was in EL for a game guys  were throwing full beer cans from their porches at anyone wearing Michigan colors.  I expected there to be at least some violence there this year long before reading this post.  How could you not?

I really like their music.  I’ve seen them play live in a variety of venues and I absolutely hate their sound mixing, it’s like watching an hour long drum solo.

This is tough.  Some combination of Denard, Gardner, Gallon, Peppers, Hutchinson.  After next year Saintistil could join that group for me, that flag plant was iconic.  There have been too many great DL to choose from, maybe Winovich too?

I wish basketball would…

I wish basketball would adopt the baseball model.  I used to watch 2-3x more games of other teams than I watched of the 15-20 UM games each year.  It was fun watching teams grow and individual players develop rivalries and then a couple of them finally get over the hump.  I’m happy the kids are getting their share of the money but I couldn’t be less interested in someone wearing a Michigan jersey for just 4-5 months. Maybe it’s the extreme extra effort required to be a fan from the west coast but it’s getting harder to justify leaving work early or getting up at the ass crack of dawn to see a game. Don’t @ me, it’s possible to support athletes getting better rights/compensation but not like the changes that were brought about by massive cash influxes to the system at large.

I don't miss arguing about …

I don't miss arguing about #1 but I am not excited at all about the 12 team playoff.  The current system feels like the best compromise between the regular season mattering and still having a real playoff.

Can we just get rid of…

Can we just get rid of Harbaugh already!?   No matter the OC people are disappointed but miraculously blame the OC.  Constant lateral moves and (small sample) zero interest in coming back.  Maybe he's just a dick to work under and we have a shitty AD.  Sometimes the truth isn't as amazing as we all hope for.

I just hope if we end up…

I just hope if we end up with a new coach that no matter whomst it is they just do things that make sense.  If they plan to run air raid then they actually run air raid.  They are prepared for tempo.  Recruit actual DT and speedsters at DB, etc etc etc.

It would be interesting to go back and see charts for +/- per snap to compare games or former v current players where tempos differ drastically.

Can we stop clutching our…

Can we stop clutching our pearls about the B1G performance this year already?  This happens incredibly frequently in the tournament; it has never seemed to matter in the long run.  Stop concern trolling and enjoy the remaining games.

2011 - The Big East had eleven teams in the tournament and only two advanced to the sweet sixteen.

2017 - The ACC had nine teams in the tournament and only one advanced past the first weekend.

2018 - The SEC had eight teams in the tournament and only two advance to the sweet sixteen.

The list goes on.

Sweet 16 probably.  It would…

Sweet 16 probably.  It would be a ho hum outcome but it’s hard to get salty about getting that far.  It’s a tournament made popular by upsets and I imagine the miniature non conference schedules have made the ranks a bit wonky.

Can we hire someone with a…

Can we hire someone with a track record beyond one generational talent at QB

Coaches usually don’t help…

Coaches usually don’t help the other team prepare.

People generally think that…

People generally think that a junior who was highly rated as a recruit and had shown flashes in limited time will be good regardless of position.  The team would be better off with him on it.  Some speculation says they won’t run the offense because of lack of depth at QB.  Proven or not he would be an asset.  What is the point you’re trying to make here?

He’d shown the ability to…

He’d shown the ability to correctly make some reads which are vital to this offense and that he was a real threat running at least.

He was almost assuredly going to replace Patterson as the starter last year if he hadn’t gotten decapitated.  It’s just outrageous how much talent these coaches run off.

He demonstrated that he was…

He demonstrated that he was able to make at least some of the reads required for this offense to work, was a legit running threat, and looked competent as a passer in limited opportunities.

Also, in complete sincerity, because the coaches weren’t talking him up this year.  I’ve come to expect anyone receiving massive coach hype to absolutely disappoint in season.

High free throw percentage…

High free throw percentage is often viewed as an indicator of good 3pt potential.  I assume it’s a combination of things like a good, repeatable form, precise muscle memory, etc.  I’ve always taken the correlation to indicate that they should possess the ability to develop a reliable shot from three, not that they will automatically be good.

Would you resign if you met…

Would you resign if you met sales goals for a few years but didn’t hit your bonus?  Or your annual budget got wrecked by covid?  Fucking no.

He won’t resign.  Nobody just resigns, especially in sports.  He was one of the best athletes on earth for 30 years and then transitioned to coaching being his entire life.  Oh and what, $7M dollars on the line.  Anecdotal observation...  I was a server for various football coaches several times early in Harbaugh’s tenure and their wives ran every aspect of the meal.  The coaches secretively talked football every second I saw at the table.  Mattison spoke to me once over 3-4 meals, Durkin just always looked pissed they didn’t have a white board for diagramming plays.  Harbaugh was too famous for that but during the pictures and handshakes you could sense the Rocky IV training montage emanating from his presence.  They aren’t regular people.

Maybe it’s gone, competitiveness  can get ground down, age brings perspective, etc but short of a health or a family event, he’s not going to just throw in the towel on the only life he’s ever known.  Maybe in some unlikely world he hits rock bottom; he admits he needs to set the program tone as CEO and fully delegates which turns things around.  He absolutely isn’t just going to quit on Michigan football without it being forced upon him by the AD in one way or another.

He’s only resigning in one very specific scenario; if he becomes coach for the Lions.

It might be shocking but…

It might be shocking but some people have talent and abilities greater than the opportunities available to them.  My guess is his hiring has something to do with the transition to high powered offense being just as or maybe more important than defense.  He’s bringing that and doesn’t need to recruit defenses anymore. The Cardinals can afford to hire (hopefully) a great defensive coordinator, about 6 more assistant coaches, more practice time, robust talent and opponent scouting, etc.

With limited resources he put together some amazing offenses for over a decade with several NCAA records and was involved with two Heisman winners.  The only QB he ever coached that wasn’t drafted is an 8 year NFL vet.  The rest; one went in the third round, and the other four in the first round with two of those going number one overall (giving him some credit for identifying Mayfield and having the inches to start a walk-on freshman).

The Cards will probably make the playoffs in his first year in the NFL with a rookie QB.

I sincerely hope Michigan’s next coach has a track record as good as this rather than two or three amazing years thanks to one generational diamond in the rough or even worse because he’s previously connected to the program.

I mean this board used to…

I mean this board used to actually discuss the OP's points.  There are actual reasonable talking points here.  Sainristil was highly recruited as a CB.  I imagine he's fast enough to cover a fly route.    He got mentioned exactly twice in last week's UFR, had no score for run blocking, and has one target on the season.  Harbaugh hasn't exactly shown a knack for retaining talented underclassmen to wait in the wings for a senior season so should we even expect him to be here for a senior season if he only gets a handful of targets this year?

That said, the Henning portion is asinine.

The RR era board was so bad… The RR era board was so bad I don't think it's comprehensible if it wasn't experienced first hand. The level of emotion was so much more intense before a decade of incompetence crushed our collective souls.
