[edited] 97.1 FM host tells Michigan fans to avoid “tinder box” Spartan Stadium unless they want to be attacked and “eat a battery”

“I’d like to offer a public service announce. I’m being real with you … people are nuts … friendly advice if you’re a Michigan fan … don’t be there. It’s going to be the most hostile environment in the history of the rivalry. It will be a tinder box. Don’t be there. I would never be at that game if I was a Michigan fan … just find something else to do … Spartan fans are going to be foaming … eff around and find out.”

[edit @ 11:30 am: I removed the Valenti link.  Brian has made it clear (see the FAQ section) that Valenti links are disallowed.  If you still feel the need to click on anything Valenti,

1) don't expect to find a link anywhere on MGoBlog; and

2) seek help.

I get that these talk radio blowhards need a shtick but rhetoric warning women and children to avoid a college campus football game or their safety may be in jeopardy is not humorous. And men may be violently assaulted for wearing a sweatshirt that’s the wrong color. He is using a high profile FM radio station to speak this criminal behavior into existence. This is apparently chum in the water for Spartans. Speaks volumes about the core of that fan and alumni base.

Yeah, that's telling the truth.  If you don't think there will be lunatic fans there trying to fuck with anything resembling a UM fan after last year, you're lying to yourself. He didn't say it as if he wants it to happen, he's saying it in a way of don't be naive and think it's just a normal football game because it'd not.

Stop it. You know damn well the context you're portraying here is not accurate. If you listen to the entire segment it's obvious he's saying that if you do go there and act like a noob, you shouldn't be shocked if you have problems. In other words, of you walk into a fire, you're probably gonna get burnt

Anyone paying attention knows on 10/21/23 spartan stadium is going to be volatile. Valenti is a spartan grad with a significant spartan audience. Him warning Michigan fans they may be attacked is tantamount to encouraging the attacks due to the audience he has. He's establishing the expectation right on his show and you better believe the sparty faithful will be willing to oblige after week of hate leading up to the game and a day of alcohol prior to kick off.

Connect the dots man.

I may get hammered for this and yes, I dont want to derail this thread.  But isn't what blow hard radio host doing exactly what one political party is trying to convict a former President for?

You are noting that Mikey is "being honest".  Well here is a thought, maybe he could use his media power influence to say something along the line..."Hey, I know this is a heated game, I know what happened last year.  Lets try to be better, let the game play out on the field only..."

Now I know that blow hard Mikey would never say that because A) His schick has always been to incite primal emotions; B) He does not want that cesspool of a stadium to be overran by Michigan fans as Michigan provides an epic beatdown to Sparty on Primetime national TV.  That would be a very bad look for their program (Personally I would find it hilarious)....

If you listened to the entire segment that is what he's saying. While at the same time, don't be naive and think that's reality. And thr f around and find out thing is saying if you go and act like a moron, don't expect to walk away with a smile on your face. I'm legitimately baffled how they would make this a night game after what happened last year. Give it a year or two for things to calm before throwing a bunch of hammered college kids into a fire after tensions are already high.

Uhm yeah get hammered. As the user above said, your first paragraph is fucking stupid & not necessary. If you're gonna make a comparison, what the blowhard radio host is doing is more in line with anchors on your favorite news channel (hint: starts with an F) “inciting primal emotions” on a nightly basis of “that cesspool” of an audience.

He is basically using the old argument "Women shouldn't dress like that or they are asking for trouble".   That's a very outdated and wrong way of thinking resulting in victim blaming.  He should be using his platform to say "Hey MSU fans---Don't be assholes!  Drink your beer.  Cheer for your team, Boo for the Wolverines...but don't resort to violence.  Period".

By choosing the path he did, it shows a lot about him as a person and MSU as a fanbase.

I just honestly don't see how people can take what was said in that clip and portray it the way its being done here. Then again I know Valenti is already a hot button here so anything he says will be made extreme even if the context doesn't warrant it. And that's probably justified based on the past, but also doesn't make it accurate. At least in my opinion

I'm in the minority, like you. I think Valenti is just stating the obvious.

Until........ FAFO. Because FAFO is a meme that points out that the FA-eee *deserves* the FO. The FA-eee is not just dumb but morally wrong. The FO is *karma*.

Going to EL to watch Staee get a deserved beat down might be dumb but it ain't *wrong*. A well-behaved adult American ought to be able go to any college football game he wishes and not be physically attacked for it.

The moment Valenti resorts to FAFO, he's making a moral argument in favor of the FO.

My mistake. I do not listen to Detroit talk radio and had no idea what this nitwit’s name was. That said, maybe worth highlighting that an FM radio host is coyly inciting violence if not a riot at an 80,000 seat public university stadium. Not funny in the slightest and not something that should be swept under the rug. Station owners? FCC?
