I'll take it. Gimme some Kevin Dudley, please.
|3 days 14 hours ago||With The very low ceiling||
With The very low ceiling Pallente came in under, I don't see any position change for him as a negative. Actually, I love the move.

|3 days 14 hours ago||They're all there||
I was most keenly looking for Bars, Fox. They're there, as are all the others we've yet to see on the field -- JBB, Tuley-Tillman, Dawson, Kugler, Stephenson.
|2 weeks 12 hours ago||Wither?||
Does wither work better?
|2 weeks 12 hours ago||Richardson||
I was pretty sure he played ST. as a freshmen and the mgoblog depth chart shows him as a redshirt. I could be wrong on that.
|2 weeks 13 hours ago||Right?||
That's was the reason for the post. Tom Strobel was touted as some kind of stud and, recognizing that he is probably a fine, young, very large man, what happened?
|2 weeks 13 hours ago||No apologes||
Op got a good giggle out of it.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Of course, but maybe...||
I get that the evidence is irrefutable, and of course the team was not eligilble. But maybe, if the Little League had vetted the team -- all of the teams-- in the playoff rounds then JRW wouldn't have ever qualified, and whichever team from Chicago was legit would have moved on to the playoffs and probably wouldn't have made it to the World Series.
For the Little League to have failed last summer and then wait until now to rule is atrocious.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Motivation||
I tend to agree that "motivation" is the biggest intangible. A coach needs to get in the heads of his players in such a way that he doesn't intimidate them but does raise their fear of failure. Watch Belichick mic'd up (there are a bunch on YouTube) and you get the idea. Without that, the players are just going through the executions without being intense about it. The Welker/Wally Pipp bit was a fabulous example, in that he was able to apply the needle and find out what Wes was made of -- and know that he should probably let him go elsewhere.
Also, on a different aspect, teaching, I really liked the advice he gave a running back: "don't decide where you're going to go before the snap. Take the ball and go to daylight wherever you find it."
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Hopeful and skeptical at the same time||
There's no doubt Michigan just hired one of the best HCs in the game today, which makes me hopeful. Skeptical, because it's hard to imagine any coach has a monopoly on Guile. I posed the question in an OP a few weeks ago: what is the secret sauce that successful coaches have. Logical, generic answer is the best combination of the highest quality ingredients. We don't know yet whether we've got those.
Great diary post, BTW.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Architecture||
If he wants to continue to study Architecture, that's a good thing for Michigan, because Stanford does not have a post-grad Arch. program and Michigan has a good one.http://archrecord.construction.com/features/americas_best_architecture_schools/2013/Americas_Best_Architecture_Schools-2014-1.asp
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Sorry||
But this is definitely TL and I wish I hadn't read through it. The only reason I did is brcause over on TTB Magnus has him going blue. Now, all I am is bored.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||begay comment||
Just watched Notah Begay (i know, awesome name), a very close confidant of Tiger's back to their Stanford days, refer to Steve Sax disease, ie, second baseman who couldn't accurately throw to first. As a lifelong struggling golfer, I can totally relate to "the yips". That it is happening to the greatest golfer thats ever lived is... Humanizing? Terrifying? How can the human brain serve its master so cruelly?
|4 weeks 1 day ago||My rankings||
I've lived in Chicago ever since I graduated from UM in the early 80s. I know a lot of NU and ND grads and have interviewed lots of recent grads for entry level jobs. I would say the quality of students/grads from the three is roughly equal. School reputation is different though. NU and UM are neck and neck. ND isn't even close. And specifically for journalism, Medill is the gold standard.
But, let me go all subjective now:
Campus Aesthetics: UM, NU, ND
So, basically, I do'nt know why a person accepted to Northwestern and Michigan would even consider Notre Dame. (Sorry, Chris T.)
Re taking a step down from these, I have to disagree with those suggesting that. Yes, it is a lot of money, whether financed or paid upfront, but the doors that open to NU and Michigan grads aren't there for grads of lesser programs. There is a presumption, justified I think, because employers have to make bets too, that those kids have got what it takes.
Please commence flaming of my subjective tripe.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Seriously?||
What about his ridiculously premature commitment to a staff that has since been fired would make you think he was solid?
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Wow||
MH75, that is a bombshell of a post. Were you a tutor? Do please expand. Did you work with other players? Dude, you are a treasure trove historian under wraps!
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Stop it!||
Denigrating a recruit is, i thought, bad form around these pages. I hope the young man chooses what is best for him. BYO, STFU.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Touche||
It goes both ways, Don. Mike McCray's dad was a captain at Ohio at the same position.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||I think it goes all the way to POTUS||
I think it goes all the way to POTUS and the american people.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||heard this before||
"We're going to be tough. We're going to be physical. We're going to have an identity."
Doesn't this sound like the same spiel every new OL coach or OC gives? Not criticizing the coaches, per se, rather the gist of the article is "water is wet" kind of stuff.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Dyin' here||
That is one hell of a funny gif. I know a lot of old people defending bird feeders in their retirement that would love it.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Hello, please?||
I don't ever recall being so anxious to see a Hello post on these pages. It's been too long, like since July that an actual commitment has stuck.
|8 weeks 4 days ago||The dark side, yes||
ESPN has it out for us indeed. In fact, since they were so badly stung 7 years ago with the Herbstreit/Miles thing, now they're getting revenge by trolling us, egging us on because they know what freekin geeks we are about Harbaugh!
Makes perfect sense!
|8 weeks 5 days ago||Thank-you||
For being one of the only commenters to take a stab at an answer. I tend to agree with "fear" and can think of two other coaches that matched that description, Schembechler and Ditka. And of course, those two share Harbaugh as QB in common.
|8 weeks 5 days ago||Please share||
Regardless of whether you've met an astronaut, please share the answer.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||Not one side or the other.||
I dont see this as news on the bad side or the good. I see it as a healthy family.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||not much||
Don't follow them. Don't RT them. That's about it.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||Gtfo||
This is the shit that happens after midnight when mods are scarce.
How dare you take the name of one of my favorite Wolverines and spew that shit.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||No names||
I've always respected PSU and USC for having no names on the jersey back. In the Mgoblog UFR era I'ive softened on this a bit for the obvious reason. Still, this program needs a reboot and i could see that being a key element.
