Team of Destiny

I can’t help but feel a positively biblical vibe around this football team. Consider:

  • The oodles of veterans around this program in an era defined by roster fluidity
  • The rewriting of history, both in the stat book for Corum and on the sidelines for Sherrone/Mike Hart in becoming the first black head coaches at the University of Michigan AND beating OSU as an interim
  • This team’s relentlessness in the face of adversity and hate all around

Now we face Alabama, a program that defines the last decade of College Football, and could go on to face Texas who in large part defined the previous decade. Seth has talked many times about how this team is unique in its embrace of love and positivity in a sport riddled with hatred, and I cannot help being emotional when viewing all these things in hindsight.

This is a team of Destiny

My conviction was waivering after seeing OSU and PSU lose, plus the Georgia blowout.

I mean, I've always thought it would be close.

As I wake this morning, I feel like all the stars are aligned, and we got this.

It helps that the entire nation thinks we will lose.  We have the better team and will be playing with an underdog mentality.

This may be the best game since 2 years ago in the snow against Ohio.

Could be a classic (to be shown on the Big ten network and not the the SEC network for years to come)

OSU didn't have their best quarterback, their top 2 receivers and second best running back playing, and up until late in the fourth quarter it was only a 7-3 lead for Missouri.  I believe Missouri had their entire first and second stringers on both sides of the ball play.  Missouri didn't play Alabama, so we don't know how that game would have played out.

PSU was also without a number of two-deep players, while Ole Miss had every core player play.

FSU was without a LOT of starters, and I don't believe Georgia had any opt-outs.  I could be wrong on this one, though, because I believe one of therein CBs was in the two-deep.  Kirby Smart's vent was due to the NCAA' policy on opt-outs, NIL and Transfer Portal that severely hurt FSU in the game.

OSU also sat their starting center, moving the RG over and inserting a backup with disasterous results.

Day is saying that the center had a couple of "bad weeks" of practice, but I wonder if Day was covering for a disciplinary incident.

The world is going to be watching our boys today. They have a great chance to shut all the haters up.   I think a bunch of us have been waiting for the day we would beat Bama in a playoff game. This was always the bar we needed to rise above for us to be really back. Lets go!

GO BLUE!!

The stars have definitely aligned for THIS year to be the best chance. Finally have a 1st round caliber QB, experience and talent across the board, there's no 2021 Georgia level team out there.

Go Blue!

Fairness, destiny, "our turn," deservedness, the "great story," you name it:

They don't mean anything. I've seen enough losses in those situations.

All that matters is what happens on the field. We aren't promised ever having things go our way, or getting results that make sense, or even the "best team winning."

All that matters is what happens on the field.

Go Blue.

SPOILER ALERT for those who play:

Merriam-Webster has a Wordle knockoff called quordle. You get nine tries to solve four words. This morning, Rose Bowl Day, one of those words is at the bottom of this post.  Makes me think one of the game’s editors is a Wolverine!
