A weirdo, glorified intern deciphering shitty iPhone footage from 100+ feet away? Awful breach of sportsmanship. A danger to players.

Literally hiring a professional coach that knows everything about your upcoming opponent because he recently coached there, removing all need for deciphering anything? A-Ok. Totally safe for the players, lol. No danger at all. "The right way" to obtain all the signals that can put players in danger.

It all makes sense.

Honestly this should not be allowed by the NCAA and Michigan should protest it.   They can hire him but he can't have any contact with staff or anyone else until after the game.   That would only be fair.

The difference is the timing of the hire.   Hire a former Michigan coach 3 weeks or less before a playoff game.  What role is he exactly taking?   I wouldn't care if they hired him 2 months ago because they wouldn't know they were playing Michigan then but they hired him after knowing Michigan is their next opening in the biggest game of the year so far.

This is another reason in my long list of why I hate Nick Saban.
Does  anyone know if  George Helow has been working anywhere else since he left Michigan in  February 2023? My quick Google search did not show any jobs listed for him since he left Michigan.

This is a little shady.  The only thing that makes this slightly less eyebrow-raising is Helow worked under MacDonald and not Minter.  The defense should be different enough nowadays that Helow's intel won't be super helpful to Alabama's game planning.  But still, this is annoying.

I thought it was interesting in the Super Bowl, Siriani & the Eagles hired DC Vic Fangio to help them with a gameplan to stop the Mahomes offense. Probably because the Broncos under Fangio always played the Chiefs really tough on the defensive side.

Obviously didn't work in the end for the Eagles, but it was probably helpful. But that's the NFL, where you've got high-end talent at every position. This is our own former LB coach who's been away from the team for less than a full year. If we're looking for actual rules that affect the "competitive balance" of the game, then this should be right at the top of the list for the NCAA. Not cheeseburgers in paradise & rando's with iphones.

Not even remotely a coincidence……

And yet somehow, what Connor Stallions did from the stands is a stain on the integrity of the game, and Michigan should be punished to the highest possible degree. But Saban going and hiring a former Michigan coach two weeks before they're set to play, a professional who coached for Saban's very next opponent, who’s been around all the Michigan players and knows next to everything about them, is totally cool and not at all a breach of sportsmanship.

If you want to hire Helow that’s fine, but in a fair world he wouldn’t be allowed to have any contact with the Alabama staff or players until after the Rose Bowl. You know, if the NCAA really gave a shit about sportsmanship, fair play, and the sanctity of the game.
