Just consider it this way:  he plays in front of 114k+ fans screaming "PAYNE!!!" (or PAIN!!!) when he does well on the field.  I think it's a good name.

I thought his name was "Will Kwity Paye"

I was hoping for another hyphenated recruit. Instantly I was thinking of all of the puns...Will Kwity Paye or Won't Kwity Paye?

My day is ruined. Over a question mark, or lack thereof.

Full disclosure: the kid's film is not impressive, especially for someone who plays in a talent-poor state. He seems like the talent DB had to settle for at BC. I'm sure he's a great kid, he just doesn't pop on film.

Have to trust the coaches here, obviously. Brown is Jim's new BFF for a reason.

And Don Brown's defenses with the kids he had to "settle for at BC" were awful. Clearly Don Brown can't do anything with 3-star recruits.

I get that This Is Michgan™ and we don't have to "settle" for recruits but if Don Brown thinks this kid is good enough for his defense, his track record proves that this kid is good enough for his defense.

His offer list isn't impressive but Don Brown's defenses with kids he recruited is impressive and that is enough for me.

His defenses got ripped by Clemson.  Its nice and all to shut down the wake forests and nc states of the world but if you want to win a national championship you have to shut down clemson and osu and bama.  You can't do that with inferior talent and a good scheme.  This kid doesn't seem athletically to the same quality as some of our top tier targets and there isn't an unlimited number of kids in the class.

I mean, he's 6'3" and, if this website is correct, runs the 100m dash in 11 seconds.  And he has a lot of the characteristics of someone's who's overlooked by the recruiting services... He's from Rhode Island, committed early (to a great DC), committed to a small program, etc.

And every DC gets shredded sometimes, especially when you have offenses like Clemson's on the schedule.

Not the same athetically?  Did you honestly watch his film ?  The kid is a very good athlete and FAST for a defensive end.  He also appears to have a good frame to add significant weight.

His technique is poor, but the staff obviousy feels they can coach him up.

Watched his film months ago when his name first came up. Watched all of it. Watch his film and watch Luiji Vilain's and tell me, with a straight face, that they are in the same league athletically.

Now I think Luiji is a kid that will play as a freshman. He's very good. Paye is just not at that level as an End type. He does have a nice frame. I would like to see him add 50 pounds with Tolbert and become a Hurst-type who has above average athleticism for a 3-tech.

I said you have to trust Brown and that I was sure he could coach him into All B1G, so not sure your little rant was needed.

No coach would tell you that it's not easier to start with more talent than less. Brown might be able to get the kid to an A, but it's easier to start with a B than a C.

But Brown did that at BC where 3* were pretty much the best he could get.

I think I'd prefer, and Brown would agree, that we get the most talented players possible to run the scheme. Not that Paye wouldn't be a good fit or a good player, but based on his film he doesn't pop out. He doesn't really impress. There are a few other DEs on Michigan's list that are far more impressive than Paye.

That's all.

The guys DB is targeting are a little suspect. He knows he's at Michigan now right? And with 20 or so high profile guys legitimately considering Michigan I would hold off. We have a couple DL already and Deron Irving Bey, Jay Tufele, and Donovan Jeter whom I'd take over Paye

I mean, if you don't build such a pipeline along the length of I-95, then you're in danger of losing all this football talent to Brown and Providence, I would think.

In all seriousness though, you don't hear from Rhode Island that often when it comes to football in virtually any respect, it seems, but this staff definitely makes recruiting a national search.
