This summary is fantastic. It perfectly encapsulates my feeling after the game. It was a game that went almost exactly like Vegas thought it would. You can see that Harbaugh is steering the ship in the right direction, but it will take a while.
Despite averaging less than three yards per carry, the team moved the ball well enough to be competitive. The defensive gave up a couple longer drives, but also made some great plays. Ruddock is not the long term answer for the Wolverines, but he played well enough today that the WOlverines will win more games than they lose. Grant Perry will improve his route running. Jake Butt played at the level we all hoped Funchess could've played at last season. Chesson got open more in this game than I remember anyone all of last season. Peppers is a gamer, and did everything he could to give the team a chance to come back in the second half.
At this point, we don't know who the quarterback will be when Michigan has finally put everything back together, but there are a lot of positives to take from this first game of the Harbaugh era. I only hope that the ship can be righted and the team put together for a season to remember while Peppers is still wearing the Maize and Blue.

As far as I can tell, there is no legal way to view the Michigan/Utah game in Canada. If there was any hope that they would show it at a bar somewhere here in Toronto, I'd go out to watch the game, but the only games listed, including the Rogers Super Sports Package, are:
Florida International @ Central Florida
TCU @ Minnesota
Oklahoma State @ Central MIchigan
Duke @ Tulane
I hope Fox Sports One never broadcasts another University of Michigan game again!

He did have one 60 yardish punt return that he took to the house, but is was called back by a completely unnecessary block in the back five yards behind the play.

On a side note, when I occasionally visit Ann Arbor for gameday, where's the best place to pick up any of the top rated brews from Bells? I haven't had any luck finding Hopslam, Kalamazoo Stout, Expedition Stout or any of the bourbon barrel aged brews-mind you, I normally only make it back to Michigan 1 or 2 days a year. Brought back some two hearted and founders last year.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||I saw that as well||
He looked pretty wobbly after the hit, but there was no mention of that on the broadcast.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||I broke out the tequila...||
...and Michigan immediately made it a one score game. I love tequila, and a I make a mean margarita, but tonight it's straight, and unfortunately, not very good tequila.
Defense held, and now we have a chance to take the lead. I know that, on every level, I should not be excited about Michigan winning against Rutgers, but, this is the hand we're dealt. I know that Hoke is gone unless Michigan at least 6-1 from hereon out, which is close to impossible.
I also know that, at 37, I have a finite number of Michigan seasons left to cheer for. As such, I will cheer for Michigan to win every game they play, regardless of whether or not a win may hinder the team's long term chances of long term success by postponing the inevitable.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Our best defense...||
...is penalties, dropped balls and errant passes. And the defense is light years better than the offense. The set of quarterbacks that play against Michigan over the course of a season would win the Heisman Trophy in at least 4 of the last 7 years.
Alter ego: When did I become so emo? Michigan will find a way to eek out a win, and pull out another close call against Penn State, before being annihilated by Staee.
(Even my alter-ego/evidence denying self knows that Michigan will be annihilated in two weeks. both know that this is a meaningless game. At best, a 7 win Michigan hemorrhages a few less recruits than a 4 win Michigan before the inevitable coaching change)
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Defense||
The defense on this team looked good in spurts. Loosing Peppers, even as a freshman, hurts a lot. Countess simply cannot play press coverage.
Unfortuantely, I don't know if we'll ever have a coach at Michigan that refuses to play prevent towards the end of either half with a lead of 1 point or more.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||That fake punt play by Rutgers||
was not a horrible playcall. The pass was horrid. It took about 3-4 seconds to reach the target. There was room down that sideline if the pass got there quickly. I don't think Rutgers needed to make that call up 12-10 in the first half, but they work best when you don't expect them. It was essentially a free TO, though. If Nova coughs up at least one more, we may just sneak away with a road win.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Two Touchdowns in one game||
...Including a Michigan(TM)/Manball 3 inch score. This is right where Hoke wanted the program in year four.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Not disappointed with that drive...||
...at least in terms of playcall and Devin's play. Pass to Chesson was ill-advised, but he made some plays, and got the ball out to Williams on the 3rd & 6.

|1 year 29 weeks ago||I will now dutifully predict a TD on every drive this game...||
...just felt like they were ready to break loose. I think that, from here-on out, we see the Devin we expected for the next game and 3 quarters. As long as Hoke doesn't pull the reigns back in, this team may even play well enough to be competitive against Staee. The team has talent, but Hoke needs to just let Nuss run the offense on his own.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Beautiful catch by Butt||
Still love that we recruited a tight end named Butt. Nothing further to add.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||The Madden Offense||
Just pass the ball to Funchess on every down for the entire game. In video games, this works well for anywhere from 1-5 games until your star receiver is injured for the rest of the year.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||TD on this drive||
I honestly don't remember the last time Michigan scored a touchdown, so I really shouldn't be betting on them to score, but I think they will. It may be the 7% Dark Helmut talking though.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Great drive||
3rd down play playcall (and execution) were lacking. Given that we've seen some small changes, at least in terms of getting to the line with more than 7 seconds left on the clock, I am still cautiously optimistic.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||About to takle a Beau's Oktoberfest Mix Pack||
Just cracking open a bottle of "Dark Helmut Imperious Schwarzbier". Like Michigan's offence, I have no idea what to expect today, but I have to admit to feeling cautious optimism in both regards. There is no reason for Hoke to play it safe anymore.
Thanks for the Big Ten Network stream. I had the Super Sports Pack for a while, but was often disappointed to find out they weren't airing the Michigan game anyway, so I can't justify spending an extra $40 a month on the only package that includes the Big Ten Network up here in Toronto.
|1 year 30 weeks ago||Perhaps he was fishing for an injury timeout...||
...To buy enough time to allow Bellomy to find his helmet. That's the only semi-logical explanation I can come up with. Of course, a regular timeout is the call, rather than letting the play roll with Shane.

Local Toronto Brew. 8.2% ABV, but suprisingly mild. Not doing anything to calm my nerves in anticipation for tomorrow's game. I have to remember to stock up on some Oberon next time I'm in Ann Arbor, so I can at least pretend I'm there.
