On who's next

Submitted by Wolfman on

Who's Next? The strong candidate for this spot is definitely Lakewood (OH) St. Edward cornerback Shaun Crawford, who finally came out and named the Wolverines his leader yesterday after another good visit for the event. Mark got the impression that he may be nearing a decision, wanting to talk to his parents soon about where things stand. The timing of when it may happen is unclear, but it could very well be soon. He's the one player to keep an eye on in the near future.  Could get my script cancelled for this, but I've experienced worse.

I've read it's a 2014 prospect who visited this past weekend. While I could see Crawford dropping soon, I have no clue who it'd be. Steve tweeted last night in response to if it was Crawford and he said it's "bigger." So take that FWIW.

Yeah I've got no idea who it could be, but I heard someone at Rivals said it's someone "we would never expect" so that's why I thought Lattimore. Unless he means McDowell because he wants to take all 5 OVs and it would be unexpected to announce right now...this is making my head hurt.

I just want a Hello post.

is probably in reference to the cb from CA, a name that can be found with a simple google search. He's a 5* db and the Commish has been all over him. I shouldn't say never. I'd gladly share anything I could get from Rivals. The mods are unmitigated dickheads.

How do we know "bigger" doesn't mean physically bigger?  In that case, it could be pretty much anyone.

I thought the only info out there was that this was bigger than Crawford, who is a top100ish guy. Some have said it would be unexpected

McDowell would be a big time get and the timing would be unexpected. There's other info out there and I can't remember what's premium and what's not anymore, but McDowell seems like a good guess (although his Dad denied that today so wth do I know)

It would be way worse than us losing Webb.  We all pretty kinda knew Webb was looking around and had a good change of commiting to OSU.  Lattimore would be a complete shock to OSU fans, and he's a better player.

You might need to go back and read that thread, I could be wrong but I think it came off of Michigan's first basketball loss of the season to OSU of all teams. It was one of "those" days that's usually best to stay away from the computer, that thread wasn't very much fun.

As a Buckeye fan and 11W frequenter, it would be worse than Webb (who is a stud, but not in-state, though the pipeline connection is there). My question about this would be that Smith and Lattimore are a long-rumored package deal. I don't know UM's space or needs at safety. Do you take Smith to get Lattimore? This is a question, I guess, that both coaching staffs are asking themselves.

didn't know they were a package. I know little about them as players. I found this scouting report on Smith by Magnus (our in-house brutally honest blogger). Also, are most people looking at Lattimore as a CB or a WR?

Also, if Smith is a SS and Lattimore's position is flexible, then yes I think we'd take both. Watson and Peppers are field and boundary corners, respectively. Especially if Lattimore can play FS.

I just don't see anyway this is Lattimore. Then again, who else makes sense?  No other 2014 prospect visited who we would be surprised to get a committment from and who is bigger than Crawford.

Well, there is Erick Smith--that safety prospect who visited with Lattimore.  I'm not sure he's "bigger" than Crawford, but he is a highly-rated player with top offers.  We do need a S in the 2014 class and Smith would certainly be a surprise.

Anyway.

seems unlikely, but it's probably at least as likely as anyone else, as the implication is that it's a 2014 guy that would surprise us and is a "huge" deal (maybe they are hyping it for clicks, but if it's some 3* we weren't counting on, it would hurt their credibility in the future next time they said it). I feel like Hand and McDowell would be surprises in timing, not in us thinking they were a possibility, and neither Nicholson nor Westphal are "huge", per se. So, who does that really leave? A West Coast guy like Smith, Jackson, or maybe Williams, or Lattimore. But what do I know?
