I am very sad, and have been very sad since the trade. I'm not huge on wearing jerseys, but when a M guy is on one of my professional teams, I've gotten them. I got the Hagelin home jersey for the Rangers (first since my kid sized Messier one), and still sport my David Harris to every Jets game I go to.
Hags was universally loved by his teammates in NY, and though he wasn't a prolific scorer for the Rangers, his speed constantly put the pressure on opposing defenders and led to a lot of scoring opportunities. Damn you, NHL salary cap! Wish him luck in the future!

I'm with ya. I'd much rather play the US Military Academies than play Eastern Michigan and the likes. It's cool to have those who will be putting their lives on the line for our own safety be able to play at historic stadiums, including their own, Munchie.

Which guys specifically do you think are better who Michigan is a likely suitor? I don't disagree that Kareem may be overrated, but DE is definitely a position of need.

Best of luck to Khalid.
ESPN and whatever streaming service they used really stunk for this announcement.

We'll see what happens when all is said and done, but it's really hard to to imagine, from an someone with no insider information, that all of these guys won't get 5th years. If Kalis and Magnuson are starting, I can't see this happening unless they become NFL ready. I could see this happening to the non-starters who the staff feels won't start their senior year and have an equally caliber backup.

Die-hard Mets fan here. Almost all fans will tell you our problems stem from our owners (money tied up in Madoff related issues), but to say we have a huge payroll is wrong. We actually have the payroll of a mid-market team, which is the exact issue why fans are so upset with our owners. We should be amongst the top 5 in payroll.

So far, so good. I'm under the impression that it was a benefit to UofM that Schlissel came in not understanding the whole "Michigan Football" thing. It allowed him to approach the issue without any bias, view it with a clear mind, and make the best decisions for the entire University that he is now in charge with. He spoke to the right people to gain an understanding of just how important athletics are to the culture and community of our University. And needless to say, I believe he gets it now.

Mine is an indoor track athlete who only competed his freshman year. From his track bio on MgoBlue, he "finishted ninth in the 60-meter dash at the 2010 Big Ten Championships, missing out on the finals by four-thousandhs of a second...finished fifth in the 60-meter dash at the Meyo Invitational... won 60-meter dash (6.81) in collegiate debut against Ohio State in the "The Dual".
If only he continued his track career, he could have probably been pretty amazing. I'll never understand why Denard Robinson gave up his indoor track sprinting ambitions...

Count me in the group that thinks we're headed to super conferences (i.e. up to 20 teams per conference). I absolutely would rather this NOT happen, but I feel we're headed that way. MY ideal would be stopping at 16, if we were going up anymore at all.
Let's play the hypothetical expansion game. We're at 14 now, but let's say we're going to 20. Who do you want to add? The teams who are being added need to make sense as a group, make sense (to a certain degree) with the B1G, and have a likelihood of moving around if this were to happen. I played this with some coworkers and the common thread were go after some Big 12 schools or some ACC schools (caveat was also no ND, because to Hell with Notre Dame).
Big 12 group of 6: Oklahoma, OK St, Kansas, Kansas St, Iowa City & either Cincy, Memphis, or UConn. The Big12 schools will never be happy with Texas preventing a conference wide media deal with a more equal revenue sharing process. I'd take UConn as the last one for more east coastness. FYI, Iowa St and Kansas are AAUs.
ACC: VT, UVA, UNC, Duke, NC State, and then either Georgia Tech, BC, UConn, or Syracuse. May be less likely as these schools make up a strong core of the old ACC guard, but it would definitely expand our east coast presence.
Again, I don't want this happening, I'd like to go back to 11 (I have family who go to Penn State, so having them in the B1G makes it more fun). But if you were to go to 20, what would be your ideal choice?

Big Jets fan here, and happy with the move for a few reasons.
A) He's a vocal, veteran leader of the defense. He's definitely lost a step with age and isn't very good in coverage anymore, but the new scheme (though similar to Rex's old scheme) will allow Harris to focus on the run even more.
B) You need to spend a certain amount of money under the CBA rules, and there wasn't exactly a swarm of guys better than Harris who we could replace him with. I'll take the fan favorite who has been nothing but a class act (and Michigan Man, of course) over a random player of equal quality demanding the same amount as a FA.
With the B. Marshall signing, Jets need a CB (Revis, come home!) and to find someone to throw the ball to our players... Overall a nice day for the Jets

Hopefully there's still a spot somewhere for Roy. Maybe he'll take a hybrid OLB and rush end position?

I agree. Lorenz actually acknowledged that Webb reported it first on Twitter. I was just sharing Steve's confirmation, as he's been pretty spot on through the search and has a great reputation as a reliable guy around these parts. We all miss those Aquaman days

Care to expand? I've seen people mention "the edge" often, and agree that what has been relayed to the board has come true. Apologies for being naive, but what exactly is "the edge" here?

I'm not sure we'll know. From the recruitniks out there, Jr. hasnt' been hearing from MI all that much lately (obvioulsy that would change if his dad were to come coach here).
On the other hand, he recently released a top four that did not include Michigan, but did include heavyweights such as Alabama. Who knows what will end up happening. Maybe he'll come to M if his father is hired. Either way, I could see Jr wanting to forge his own path somewhere else.

Agreed. Academics are important to the school. However let's not forget about the real reason they came to the B1G and the reason they won't leave - money. They are better off fiscally being in our conference and without Texas, where they'll never be on an even financial playing field (at least when it comes to conference payouts) because of TV deals.
