The NCAA said its findings included "a lack of institutional control, impermissible inducements, extra benefits, exceeding coach staff limits, and unethical conduct by an assistant football coach."

"I am disappointed by [Thursday's] decision and disagree with the NCAA's findings. If the University decides to appeal, I will continue to cooperate with the NCAA and USC, as I did during the investigation. In the meantime, I will continue to focus on making a positive impact for the University and for the community where I live," Bush said.
Am I missing something here? When did he ever cooperate with the investigation?

read: "I am in no way surprised by (Thursday's) decision and completely agree with the NCAA findings. If the University does appeal, I will continue to ignore the NCAA and USC, as I did during the investigation.  In the meantime, I will continue to focus on counting all the money I was paid during my time as USC," Bush said

I refuse to take joy in the downfall of others.

...

Except in the case of USC.  Good.  GOOD!!

Finally, that horrendous Rose Bowl experience (hungover, loss, douchebag USC fans, sunburn) is avenged!

that is wrong in all of this is that Reggie Bush took money and Sneaky Pete made millions (and got a highly paid job in Seattle) for breaking the rules and nothing can be done.

The NFL and their moral crusade should do something here, but won't/ can't.

Agree with you on that. The NCAA shouldn't allow Bush or Carroll back into the NCAA in any shape or form. If Carroll fails in Seattle he'll be looking to get back into the college ranks, and who knows what Bush may do when the time comes.

If they can suspend Big Ben for 6 games, without him being charged with a crime and suspend Pac-Man for never being convicted of a crime (although charged multiple times) then isn't giving/ accepting a bribe (or at least completely disregarding college rules) just as immoral/ unethical?

The NFL can also regulate speech (can't critize refs or the league) so why not this?

What about current players? I had read that the NCAA is going to allow them to transfer penalty free.  That would be a huge one. With Kiffin coming in and all that uncertainty, some players may decide to bolt.

I know these guys didn't come to us out of high school, but I would accept Rojo, Perry, etc with open arms if they wanted to transfer to UM.

Players are allowed to transfer, penalty-free, if their program has its postseason abilities stripped, if the ban represents the remainder of their eligibility.  So, in this case, USC juniors and seniors are able to transfer.

I have not read anything about other players being able to opt-out (i.e., freshman and sophomores).

Why is it that when Michigan announces its minor self imposed punishments they are plastered on the front page and college football page of espn.com immediately. But when the NCAA announces massive punishments against USC, they just get a little link on the side?

I'm just hoping that the NCAA blew its proverbial load on USC here.  Last I checked, we're still not completely out of the woods yet ourselves, so if this is only the beginning of a bigger initiative by the NCAA to make examples out of top-tier programs, we could end up on the sharp side of the spear too.

But in the meantime, I'll enjoy the sweet sweet schadenfreude just like everyone else.

The Freep will spin this so it looks like RR had something to do with it!

But on a serious note, this is th best news we've heard around here in a while.  Feels good to see someone else getting kicked around in the dirt for once.  10 scholarships lost a year for 3 years is going to kill them.  I could live with the post season ban, but with a possible exodus in athletes and now limited scholarships to give out, this could really hurt them.

Karma is a bitch USC/Kiffin!!!!!!!!!!

I was skimming the PDF and it is ridiculous how naive USC was during the investigation. It seems that their stance was just deny deny deny and hope that the NCAA decided the mounting evidence was concrete/substantial enough to be taken as fact.

The "institution", "assistant coach" and "enforcement staff" differed on almost all of the accusations leveled at Bush.

Michigan did pretty much the same thing during the investigaiton of the hoops program.  Its difficult for a University to fess up when its own players and coaches are either lying to them about what happened or simply refusing to cooperate as Bush (and Chris Webber) did.  Without subpoena power there is not much the school can do to force people to tell them what happened.

This has got to be the craziest day in college sports ever.  And it's like Christmas for me.  I live in Boulder and CU is making a step up to Pac 10.  USC is getting hammered.  Now one last cherry on top . . . Izzo.

Now, lets stop complaining about the NCAA not doing anything to USC. The  more major the investigation, the longer it takes to investigate, especially with an uncooperative party.

This was bound to happen, it was only a matter of time.

The bad part about crap like this though, is the players who didn't have anything to do with any of it, are the ones who pay. If I was a recruit this year going to USC, I'd be pissed off at the school and myself. You know USC was lying to them about what was probably going down. The best thing a incoming recruit could of done, was not enroll early. I believe the ones who aren't going to school yet can go elsewhere, but I'm not sure if they have to be released from there LOI. Talk about a dick move if they didn't release them from there LOI if thats the case.
