He's stuck in conversation on the MLB realignment thread.

This just made my morning.

This just made my morning.  Coffee, studying, and a good old 3 week reminder.  Thank goodness for Michigan football.

Yeah, it's possible.  It'll

Yeah, it's possible.  It'll be interesting if there's pressure in a few months/years/whathaveyou for a championship game.  If the NCAA lets the 10 team exemption go, then they're happy.  The fact is that game brought some cash to the conference.  Perhaps a TV network can fill that in, who knows....

He has ties to the Pac 10 and

He has ties to the Pac 10 and the Pac 10 thought they had those schools.  So, he reports it as "imminent".  Not a big deal.  Also, he reports it on Twitter.  It's half  news.

Seriously...as if there was

Seriously...as if there was any question that they ran the show in the Big 12 anyway.  Now with the future of the North in the hands of the likes of Missouri and Iowa State, whoever wins the South has an even clearer path to BCS.  It'd be interesting if/when/who they choose to replace the 2 who left.  BYU?  Utah? New Mexico? I'd lean towards Air Force and BYU, but that's just me.  They already have a presence in Colorado, so USAFA is not that far of a reach....

Ask the MAC Aggies (until

Ask the MAC Aggies (until about 1950) "...fight right through that line of blue, Michigan is weak'ning"

We've talked about this

We've talked about this before - the SEC has better academics than the Big 12.  Vandy and Florida are both better than UT, which is the "best" the Big 12 has to offer.  Texas Tech and Oklahoma State are two of the worst academic schools in the BCS.

I'm psyched to go to Lincoln

I'm psyched to go to Lincoln for games.  I had a buddy in undergrad who was from Nebraska, and we'd have never-solvable arguments about game-day, '97, etc.  Now that there's a reason to spend the money, I'm headed to Lincoln to experience it myself the first chance there is.

That's true - but it sounded

That's true - but it sounded like he had a bunch of family around to help.  The 2 -3 year old is a tough thing, especially in the cold.  I wonder dad's (and the kid's) stance on hot chocolate with marshmallows.  And again, in the end, you just have to know when to leave.

I dunno man, I went to my

I dunno man, I went to my first football game when I was 2 weeks old.  Outside of making me super awesome, there were no lasting effects.  Point being, there's no such thing as too young - you just have to know when to leave and accept it.  Take pictures - after all, this is for you, not your son, and you'll want to remember it.  And then one day, you can show him the picture, as well as Coach Jack Johnson/Coach Mike Hart when he's being recruited to play at U of M.

"If Wyoming can keep Dave

"If Wyoming can keep Dave Christensen around for a few years,"

So says David from Wyoming.  Hm....

Absolutely they should,

Absolutely they should, especially if what ESPN is reporting is true:

They will be looking for the

They will be looking for the meteor that will inevitably be coming to end the world.

*Detroit Perfect Game.

*Detroit Perfect Game.

That was kind of my point,

That was kind of my point, poorly expressed by me.  I was just saying that the independence they have isn't actually their own - it is actually tied to everyone else - and if the "super" conferences suck up the BCS bids, ND has no choice but to join.  Looking at some of their numbers, they rely heavily on conference affiliation.  EDIT:  Which is why the concept of an unstable Big East is a threat to them.

You can't necessarily say

You can't necessarily say they are going to divide by state.  Delany said so himself.

That'd sure be interesting

That'd sure be interesting Re: ND.  If ND can get their act together and stop being such assclowns about their perceived "independence".  One thing I fear, however, is that ND is going to get an autobid the first year in the league, considering USC is going to be in shambles.  Big Ten Schedule, plus Army, Navy, 2011/2012 USC = Straight to the top.

Tougher - yea, probably.

Tougher - yea, probably.  However, I hope that Nebraska's first Big Ten game is against Michigan.  I think it would be smart for the conference.  2nd choice would obviously be OSU, and then Iowa.  If they do East/West conference alignments, the Big Ten East is going to be tough:

Michigan

OSU

PSU

MSU

Indiana

Purdue?  NW?

West:

Nebraska

Iowa

Minny

Wisconsin

Illinois

NW/Purdue

Beast of a conference, friends.

EDIT:  Video for those with patience.

You should probably get that

You should probably get that checked out.  And notify all your partners.

I'm not totally against the

I'm not totally against the shorthanded icing...especially considering the change to a hybrid rule.  There could be some really interesting strategy that goes on now - High lofts down the ice with an instant attacker could actually result in more shorthanded goals than before.  It will also shake up, in my opinion, penalty killing lines.  Could actually turn out to be very exciting.

I see what you're saying, but

I see what you're saying, but If those teams get added, most likely OSU will be in a different division than they are, thus making it less likely they will play them every year.

Also, a lot of non-revenue

Also, a lot of non-revenue teams don't play your traditional Team A vs. Team B on Friday at 5.  There are a lot of tournaments and gathering of teams.  For instance, in swimming, you could have 3 teams swimming at once, and at the end of it each team technically swam 2 different teams, counting as 2 wins, 1-1, or 2 losses.  Saves money on travel and site preparation.

Thanks for the awesome quick

Thanks for the awesome quick analysis.  My buddies and I like to talk about dream scenarios, and his one big dream is to make Big Ten Baseball matter more than it does.  He thinks that Nebraska + Texas = $$$, to the point where Wisconsin would field a team and there would be major shifts among teams in the conference.  I slide toward the "It would make us better but not awesome" end of the spectrum.

Haha - I totally felt like it

Haha - I totally felt like it was fake or something.  I was waiting for the laughter to start.  I realize that it's Pete Carroll, and nothing is genuine.  What a creep.

Chip says no truth to rumors

Chip says no truth to rumors about ATM and UT to Big Ten, but SEC and ATM is under consideration.

Now there are just ridiculous

Now there are just ridiculous rumors and conjecture mixed up as news.  Talk of A&M splitting ways.  Potential VaTech + A&M ---> SEC heating up.

BTW, they are pulling out

BTW, they are pulling out flight tracker on the Big Ten rumor...

Private flight from Chicago to Austin early this morning.  Means nothing but additional fuel to the fire, but still....

My freaking head is about to

My freaking head is about to explode over all of this stuff.  Too much excitement, man, too much excitement.  I can't look away, though.  This whole situation reminds me of a Homer Simpson quote:

"Forty seconds?  But I want it now..."

Regardless, the wife and I were laughing that, in all of this excitement, it is still going to be about two years until this all goes down.  Don't forget there's still a 2010 football season ahead of us!

It's hard to look at that

It's hard to look at that picture knowing what the rest of your avatar looks like.

Not in that ESPN report.  It

Not in that ESPN report.  It was probably written before everything was fully out so they could publish something at 3.  It's on all the newspapers' twitters and what not.  Damn kids and their rock and roll.

GameDay says they were very

GameDay says they were very close to a TV ban, but chose not to.  That's where you really hurt a modern day football program.  It's too bad that didn't happen.

Early reports are over 3

Early reports are over 3 years, but probation on four.  Some conflicting reports.  Waiting on the 67 (!) page report.

Yeah, that's the thought.

Yeah, that's the thought.  However, someone of authority (i forgot who, sorry) that if the Big 12 goes belly up, all conference games could start new for some Spring sports next  year.  However, the 2011 Football year is looking more and more like a possibility, with some contracts needing to be fulfilled.  I think ideally they'd look at 2012 (end of the world, fitting...) but things may hasten that.

Rutgers helped themselves out

Rutgers helped themselves out today with the #1 overall APR, in my opinion.  Beating out a bunch of private schools is pretty good.

Dude, I dunno about you guys,

Dude, I dunno about you guys, but I'm freaking psyched for this.  At this point, I feel like the 45 spinster who someone finally proposed to - I dont care who it is, I just want it.

Dogs and cats living

Dogs and cats living together.  Mass hysteria.

Once the Big 12 goes

Once the Big 12 goes belly-up, Kansas is going to be the new Independent, and ND is coming to the Big 10.  Then, being all elite-independent, Kansas is going to fire their head basketball coach, make a huge overture towards Izzo, who will subsequently scorn Cleveland AND Michigan State, ending up at Kansas.  It does not involve Dorsey.  Don't be ridiculous.

"will wait until the end of

Riiiight...just trying to be the first to "break" a story.

I dunno.  Looks uncomfortable.  Unless that Gold Seat is heated, your balls are going to retract the second you sit on that.

That's exactly right.  The student is bound to the University until further notice.  The university is not bound to the student, per se.  Just like scholarships, etc., this is a definite one sided deal.

Does it suck that he might

Does it suck that he might not have the opportunity to flourish as a person and as an athlete in Ann Arbor?  Absolutely.  There was definitely a communication breakdown somewhere in the process, which sucks for the two main sides involved.  I was just pointing out that "promise" might be too strong of a word.  There seems to be a misunderstanding of what a Letter of Intent says and allows for the person signing it.  There are actually very few promises by anyone but the athlete when they sign a Letter of Intent.  The thing basically says that IF the student is admitted, THEN they can participate in the sport and take classes at the University.
