MWC BCS Bowl?

Submitted by ThatOneGuy on

Now since Boise State has become a member of the MWC do you think that the confrence should have an automatic  BCS bowl bid? I believe it will be close if they do or not. All of the BCS Bowl busters of late are now in the same confrence, Maybe if they add another team to the confrence they would get one for sure.

Thoughts?

If Wyoming can keep Dave Christensen around for a few years, we'll be a good to great team. As the OC at Missouri, he was scoring points left and right. His first season here in Laramie, he beating Texas for half a game. The bottom of the MWC isn't full of world beats, but Wyoming is trending up.

I hope he does too.  It was a lot of fun watching them play last year with that freshman QB...whose name I cannot remember for the life of me.  I wouldn't mind seeing a good Wyoming team in the next few years.

Too many consistently good teams in the MWC now.  They should probably strip the Big East of their auto bid and make them earn it like Boise St., TCU, and Utah have done the past few years.

The Mountain West is still looking at adding teams also. There's a report that there eyeing Mizzou and KU, on ESPN.

They should look at Fresno St. to IMO. I think there right on the edge right now to get that auto bid and one more move or two could put them over the top. I'd rather see the Mountain West get an auto bid then the Pac-16 getting two. One auto bid per conference, period.

I hate the idea of the P16 somehow getting 2 auto-bids.  The benefit of expansion is a larger footprint, increased revenue, and more games (this matters a lot if you have your own network as that means better games will be on the conference network).  The downside is that you risk only get 1 BCS bid.  But, if UT and USC meet in the P16CG, it's probable that the loser would receive a bid two.

Besides, if the P16 gets 2 bids I think that hurts the prestige of the Rose Bowl.  Even if the P16 committed to sending their CG winner there (unless they go to the NCG) I still feel that the Rose Bowl would be diminished.

They knew the risks when they expanded, it's not acceptable that they now demand a rule change to accommodate one of the down-sides of their well thought-out actions.

If we're going to be stuck with the BCS instead of a playoff, the least the BCS could do is only allow one automatic bid per conference.  Actually, I think they should mandate that all conferences with divisions should have to have a conference championship game, or forfeit their auto bid.  That way the Pac-16 is forced into having a championship game.

KU and KSU are married together so, that would bring them to 12. If Mizzou is definitely out of the B10, then they could jump to the MWC and they could roll with 13. I see them going to 14 and locking up that auto-bid. With teams like Kansas, K-State, Mizzou, Boise, Utah, TCU, BYU at the top end of that conference, there is no way you can keep them out of the BCS.

If they go to 14 and take KU, KSU, and Mizzou I think Fresno would fit in there nice. That would actually a damn good conference that would be better then the Big East, maybe event the ACC. If not who do they take? Baylor? Colorado St?  This is already been a very interesting off season and we still have 2+ months yet before kickoff.

If they decide to go to 14, I'd take Iowa State over Fresno. Take the remaing 4 B12 North teams and just add them to your conference. That would be one pretty good conference and add instant credibility to whatever team wins the championship.

Baylor can go pound sand. I'm so tired of their "people" in the Texas Legislature trying to attach them to the schools that people actually want. If you were good enough on your own, so be it. I think they deserve to go to the Sun Belt or C-USA for the crap they've been pulling with this expansion stuff.

They have a for sure strong top four with Bosie,Utah,TCU,BYU even if they decide not to expand anymore i think it should be enough to get the auto bid.

their conference is half legit, and half general mid-major bottom feeders

Good:

Utah (if they stay), BYU, TCU, Boise
Alright:

Nevada, Air Force

Typical Bad Mid-Majors:

CSU, New Mexico, SDSU, Wyoming

so at the top, the MWC can compete. at the bottom, we'd be looking at the worst bottom tier in any BCS conference

Here's why I have a problem with them getting an autobid. Those top 4 teams have been good the last few years, but there have been a number of years when no team from that group deserves an autobid. Since they don't have great facilities, they don't pay their coaches at a high level and they don't recruit like the other BCS schools, there's likely to be more years in the future where those teams aren't on par with other BCS elite teams. The Big East has been down lately, but many of those teams have a long history of competing at a high level (Pitt, WVU, Syracuse) and more who have won a lot of games lately (Rutgers, UConn, USF and Cinci). Because the Big East also competes with the nation's best in other sports (most notably basketball) there is more reason that they will not drop off in football.
