Fastest of the group!!
I think he once said he was about 4.6 when he came to Michigan. Ben Herbert is A-Maizing!
Official Time now 4.26
THIS is MICHIGAN
we DEMAND a FOURTH SIG FIG
Knew he was fast but kinda figured he'd be in the high 4.3s or low 4.4s
Even had Sauce Gardner saying "Woo that's simply fast..."
Two recruits who had speed as a concern out of High School. Some guys just need time to develop. I'm hoping Calhoun is one of those guys who with Herbert's aid will get fast enough that all his other tools are able to shine.
He was cooking. And according to the broadcasters, the official time might be even faster.
Ooooooooweeeeeeeeeee. That is fast. (edit)
Ummm, isnt this up there with like, best ever?
Deion Sanders had a 4.27....
According to this site these are the 4 fastest ever
- John Ross, WR, 2017: 4.22 seconds
- Kalon Barnes, CB, 2022: 4.23 seconds
- Chris Johnson, RB, 2008: 4.23 seconds
- Rondel Menendez, WR, 1999: 4.24 seconds
Ahhh yes, Kalon Barnes and Rondel Menendez.
Let's hope in Turner's case his is more functional speed and he has a lengthy and productive NFL career.
Yeah - don't wanna have to use that speed to run down a receiver from behind....
Yep as Dan Campbell says this is the pajama olympics.
That said these humans are just freaks of natures - there are guys in the 250 lbs range running 4.6s its sick.
Who? Just goes to show speed is just 1 factor.
Bo Jackson ^^^^^
Internet said Bo Jackson ran a 4.12 or 4.13 but he isn't listed on the fastest NFL combine speeds.
I want to say Darell Green and the famous Bo Jackson had “unofficial” sub 4.2 times. I think hand timed not laser?
For reference, Bolt ran 4.22 and did it with a smile 😃.
John Ross, WR, 2017: 4.22 seconds is the record.
8th fastest ever. 3rd among CBs.
Bo Jackson ran a 4.13 on his pro day.
Give me a friendly enough timer and I could run a 4.1 too lol
What does Fred Jackson have to say about this?
Underrated comment
Bo had to slow up at his combine sprint because he would've literally run into a wall. At his pro day at Auburn, they opened the doors to the training facility so that he'd have room to decelerate.
I still love the stories about Bo Jackson. There's one about a baseball scout who said when he went to watch Bo, he thought they had a cannon at the ballpark because the sound Bo's bat made hitting the ball was unlike any other thing he had heard outside of Vietnam.
Bo Jackson says he clocked a jaw-dropping 4.13 at the combine in 1986, long before electronic timing ensured near 100 percent accuracy.
I have this feeling he may be the most missed off our defense next season. You don't do what we have done to OSU WR's the last few years without some speed. That is lightning!
Will Johnson is also pretty good at running fast. Also, if Amorion Walker pans out he can also run fastly...
I saw a mock for next year that had him top 10. Obviously early but I think he’s going to be a big time prospect and high quality DB for a kind time in the NFL.
No you didn’t or the writer doesn’t know a thing. Because he is ineligible to enter the draft next year.
It was the PFF "what if everyone was draft eligible this season" mock which is much more impressive than just going top 10 in 2 years.
I looked at the combine website and it is the fastest time so far (WR's haven't run yet). If you go on the combine website, they give a player a "grade". I looked at the grades yesterday and was surprised DJ Turner had the highest "grade" of any Michigan player at the combine and was tied for 20th overall (link below). This was before he ran the 40-yard dash. I didn't have enough time to figure out exactly what the grade meant. Congratulations to DJ--that's blazing fast.

Can’t teach speed!
I think DJ showed that you can, to a certain extent. As others have pointed out, his main knock out of HS was lack of top end speed and a reported 4.6 40. Sometimes athletes just need the right training and technique to unlock their full potential.
Massive difference between a 17 year old getting faster and a 23 year old getting faster.
Like a lot of old coach speak, this is wrong. Not too long ago baseball coaches said you couldn't teach velo and now we know that it means *that coach* can't teach velo.
Porter from PSU is way overrated. I am surprised that some think he is round #1 material. Turner seems a whole lot better than him.
Wow, really impressive! Per my very superficial level internet search, looks like that's one of the fastest CB (or any position) 40 times of all time. Hopefully bumps him up a round or two
He just made himself a lot of money over those 40 yards.
Enjoy Las Vegas, DJ!
Um, his NFL profile says his real name is JuanDrago. Is this true and if it is, how the hell didn’t we know this before???
Much like Vidauntae, I am sure he prefers his nickname for ease of use.
Brian was aware of this a few years ago:
Because if you knew, he must break you.
In his annual freaks article, Feldman said Turner ran a 4.28. I admit I doubted the accuracy of that number, but Turner seems to have backed up that bit of reporting.
And Mazi Smith currently leads all participants with 34 reps on the bench.
They also noted that Mazi has 34" arms (apparently that is pretty long) so his Bench number is even more impressive. So far Mazi and DJ have made some coin these past 36 hours...
Mazi skipped running tho. Will at pro day.
Could care less about 40 times for DT and DE. The 10 yard splits tho are interesting.
I don't care about the DE/DT 40 times, within reason. If a guy runs north of 5.8 or so, that's going to be an issue.
