TomVH: Faith Ekakitie Offered

Submitted by TomVH on

I was told that Illinois DE/DT Faith Ekakitie (6'2", 255 lbs) was visited by Jerry Montgomery today, and apparently received a Michigan offer. Faith was recently ranked in the Rivals top 100, and has offers from Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Oregon, Stanford, WVU, and Wisconsin among others.

Do you know if he's being offered as a DE or a DT. Weight screams DT to me but he's listed as a SDE by the major sites. ESPN has him up at 280 though (247Sports is even higher at 285)...

I tried that but it wasn't working for me. Thanks, though. His film is extremly impressive. You don't see players with that kind of size who can move like he does. He would be a welcome addition to this class in a big way.

Bullets? You've outdone yourself. Thanks. I've watched the video 2 times now and it gets more impressive with each viewing. Btw, Kyle Murphy and Eric Magnuson dominated the Stanford Nike Training Camp. Would love to get those two, Boehem (sp) and Diamond. That would make for a formidable line for years to come.

I don't buy Rivals measurables in this case. They're a huge outlier. Scout has him at 275, ESPN at 280, 247Sports at 285. 255 is way the hell off compared to the other three so I'm likely to lean more towards he's 280ish. For a HS junior, I have to assume he'd be destined for DT.

Now if he is 255, that's a different story, but I just think Rivals is way too far off from the rest to be accurate.

Even if he is 255 as a HS junior, that's already getting on the big side for a DE.  Most of these kids put on a good amount of weight from the time they're HS juniors and when they see the field in college, at least with the guys in the trenches.

But yeah, the fact that 255 is the lowest reported weight of the 4 sites, and the lowest by a good chunk, it's safe to say the kid is at least in the 270s right now, making him a good DT candidate in a couple years.

Man love this staff, they are no nonsense. Offers being made plenty.  First Come, First Served.  2012 FB recruitment, Out of control,  !!!!!  in a good way though !

is nice.  There is still a whole high school season yet to be played and a lot can happen in 9 months.  We can laud Hoke for his recruiting efforts to date, but things can change quickly.

I get negged for being normal.  I am a season ticket holder and alumnus.  Because I post a realistic viewpoint, doesn't mean I am trolling.

my understanding from the short amount of time I've spent around this community is that when you get negged, its better just to take it and move on.  Fanatical fans(though intelligent, please don't read this MgoUniverse as any amount of disrespect) like to ride the excitement wave, and its hard to blame them when so many great things seem to be happening around the program.

EDIT: Sorry about the enormous pic

Fair question. Been trying to do some research on him and apparently he only started playing in high school so he's raw. Still, he's a 4-star to both Scout and Rivals (in the Rivals top 100) and is from the Chicago area, where we've offered a lot of kids. Seems odd we wouldn't have gotten on him earlier.
