Taysom Hill to transfer to Michigan?

Sounds like Taysom Hill is definitely leaving BYU after this season. Michigan is the only specific school his former OC mentions by name.

One possibility could be playing for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan, which starts a senior quarterback who transferred in for this season. Hill signed to play for Harbaugh at Stanford but never went there and transferred upon returning from a church mission after the coach left to take over for the San Francisco 49ers.

"I would tell Taysom to do the best thing for Taysom," Doman said. "If Michigan comes knocking and you've got a fifth opportunity to play quarterback for Jim Harbaugh, and that's the best thing for Taysom Hill then he should go do that for sure."

all fairness Speight did not have a whole lot of time to adapt to that game.  He was forced into action in the middle of a hotly contested second half.  It did not take him very long to look pretty comfortable leading a game winning drive.  I am not saying he is the answer for the future but I think that was a pretty impressive showing from a backup in the circumstances.

I'm just going by Brian's UFR where he missed open reciever after open reciever. He made a nice throw in the endzone to Chesson but if you're asking me if I would rather have Hill or Speight next year if something happened to O'Korn it's not even close. And that's the point I'm making. If disaster happens you need to be ready.

agree there.  I am not trying to make the case that Speight looked starter-like in that limited action.  As to the Hill deal, I don't think Hill would be coming here "in case something happened" to O'Korn.  I don't think that would be the nature of that transaction at all.

and if hill beat out o'korn for the starting gig, how is that a bad thing?  you still have o'korn as a backup and potential starter in 2017.  there really is zero downside here, except giving out a one-year schollie for one of the most exciting players in college (when he's on the field).

Speight has looked lost sans 1 nice drive
I was at the Minnesota game, and he didn't make a bad play that game. The balls he threw away were all the right decision, as no receiver had separation. In clutch time he performed! I doublt whether Speight can compete with O'Korn or Hill, but give Speight his due ... he led Michigan to the winning score and 2 point conversion. Go Blue!

I expect any backup QB who is unexpectedly thrown into a competitive game for the first time in his career to struggle, so I don't hold Speight's first couple of drives against him.  I do give him credit for that last drive.  He showed something he may be able to build on.

Hill is talented, but I'm wary of bringing in a guy who 1) has a skillset that may require us to significantly change our offense and 2) has a very long injury history.  I would hate to see him win the job and get starter's reps all through camp then go down with yet another injury, causing us to have to revamp the offense on the fly.  If Harbaugh wants him I won't question his judgment, but I think we'll be OK regardless.

point is a very good one.  And I guess in that regard the question would be how much of an upside from O'Korn or Gentry (shit, or Peters) would he provide if he was to stay healthy.  I guess it is a risk-reward type of deal.  But as to point 1, I was not under the impression that he was a run first guy, I thought be was more of pocket passer who just happens to have really good wheels.  Am I wrong in that regard?

I did not know he was that much of a runner.  I guess I should have figured after I saw the gif above where he scores from the 40 in like 2 seconds while hurdling two Longhorns but for some reason I thought he was definitvely a throw first kind of guy.

You can't use 7 scholarships on a position that hopefully only sees one guy play a year.  Sure its great to have depth but at some point its overloading resources.  If you take Taysom Hill it means you don't think much of O'korn or Speight or Gentry or Malzone or Peters or possibly even Shane.  The only reason you take him is if all of those guys suck and if they all suck we are screwed anyways because Taysom Hill is guaranteed to get injured.

Doubtful. Harbaugh is a competitor who loves competition and will have no problem adding a QB as talented as Hill to the roster. Michigan is going to be loaded next year. If O'Korn isn't what we think he is or gets hurt we are looking at a very unproven backup as the QB. We have already seen at Baylor, ND, OSU, etc over the past few years you need a ready #2.
