If we rename Jeremy Gallon to Devin Gallon, then we will be truly unstoppable.
Maybe throw in a Devin Green too.

How about adding Devin Bryant, Devin Glasgow, and Devin Kalis as well?

I may be too optimistic, but I think this team will improve in every game that we play. This is a trend in every Brady Hoke team that we have had. They improve throughout the season. Look at last year, the team that played South Carolina in the bowl game was a much better team than the one that played Alabama in the kickoff game. I think we will be firing on all cylinders by the time we reach the finale against Ohio State and I think it all started today.
Edit: YESTERDAY

I would say not too optimistic at all, in 2011 and 2012 both the offense and defense improved over the course of the season noticeably. Perhaps it is unsurprising that teams should improve over the season (after all: more practice, more games, more experience) but after the troubles between 2008 and 2010 and watching our teams seemingly regress, especially defensively, it is a welcome and refreshing change.

My observation is that it seems that we need to schedule nothing but night games from now on if we want the student section filled with students before the game. Noon games against crappy teams (Akron) leave the section about half empty at kickoff and 3:30 games against conference teams (Minnesota) leave it about 1/3 empty so the solution is obvious.
Schedule all night games. They seem to be able to show up on time for those.

My observation is that we should make like a duck and do what Oregon does, which is dynamically resize the student each game based on demand.

For the life of me, I do not understand why it seems to be so hard for the athletic department to think of things like this.

What do they do exactly?

I took a couple of pictures I'm going to post later today. Both taken one minute to kickoff - one of the student section (about 2/3 filled) and one of the alumni section (completely filled). Clearly there is a problem and positive reinforcement (The Hail program) didnt work and then negative reinforcement (General Admission) hasnt worked so the time has come to start cutting the number of tickets sold.

They definitely started it too early. 21-10 is not a blowout, especially given how turnover-prone we'd been prior to this game.

I'm willing I bet students show up more now on a percentage than they have in past 'generations.'

In the early 90's when I was there, the student section were packed.

I'm willing I bet students show up more now on a percentage than they have in past 'generations.'You would be wrong. Watch an old Michigan game on BTN (or WolverineHistorian's YouTube channel, if any games are left) and you'll consistently see a full student section at kickoff. This business of the student section being 25-50% empty at kickoff is new.

"Funchess is listed as a tight end, but you played him as a wide receiver. Was that the plan?"
Why, oh why could he not respond with "no, that was Gardner's fault. He kept lining Funchess up in the wrong place."

way to a stupid question. Why he couldn't is much more complicated.

A 29 point win is always solid.

Was Taylor Lewan playing tight end or right right tackle in Toussaint's last touchdown? What was this formation? Also Bryant pulls hard.
October 6th, 2013 at 2:08 PM ^
Question: We saw Lewan switch sides to run block to the right several times. Why couldn't we run the same play mirrored to the left? Wouldn't that hide the play much better? It's pretty obvious we're going to go behind Lewan if he switches sides.

If you ask the announcers, they will tell you that they aren't sure if Lewan even played LT.

Ugh I heard them say that. One of many cringe-worthy moments. I used to like Mike Patrick quite a bit.

This is what I thought too - that's the unbalanced line in the "I", and I think here they go with a back offset on the strongside with a single WR, as I recall. I could be wrong there though. It looked like a variation on something that I know Stanford does a fair amount, and Wisconsin has its own version, I think, which they call "The Barge".

James Ross...He still has some room for improvement in coverage, but looks great against running teams like Minnesota.

Those critcizing the student section yesterday have no idea what they're talking about. At kickoff, it was probably 70-75% full, and 5 minutes into the first quarter it had filled up almost entirely. Yesterday was a good showing by the students, especially against a team like Minnesota.

But the student section was full. Yes, it took a few minutes into the game to completely fill up, but it got there.

Yes. I showed up to the stadium about 30 min early and spent a good 5-7 minutes waiting in line. I'd have to imagine the lines only got longer as the game got nearer.

Wait, you consider a section that is 25-30% empty at kickoff to be good? For a 3:30 game?
