Michigan lacrosse player Megan Minturn also participated in the vandalism, but is so far only suspended and not kicked off her team.  I'm not sure how either is even still allowed to attend the school.  Unless Michigan has to go through some formal process to officially expel them, it's a complete failure by the University to allow them to still attend.

Very sorry to hear about this, especially for any from the community who may have come across this before it was removed. You know this is a Michigan blog because these actions won't have any defenders and it will stay up for the duration. Fairly comfortable saying that this would be ho hum down in texas though.

Sorry y’all, as a Texas grad, this will be one of the games I’ll be rooting against Michigan.

We promise we will call the dogs off in the 4th quarter ;)

Why? Is it because you feel people in TX just have to be more anti-semitic or homophobic than other places based on...? This, in itself, is a prejudice statement and actually would qualify your remarks as part of the problem, not in solidarity as your opening apology attempts to do.

I'm not saying the Lone Star State doesn't have it's fair share of racist or racially/sexual orientation-biased folks but assuming that this behavior is more tolerated somewhere based on predisposed judgements is again how we end up in the current situation and perpetuates stereotypes. Sorry, not sorry.

I didn't get that Kermit was saying it was worse than sexual assault; I think he was saying that hate speech graffiti, especially where they did it, is worse than what he anticipated, and what was out there a few days ago was just a graffiti incident. Is sexual assault worse than hate speech graffiti? Yes, but both are horrible and demonstrate an absolute lack of character bordering on sociopathy.

  • Two Michigan athletes caught on video spray painting bigoted graffiti at Jewish Resource Center.
  • One athlete kicked off team, one suspended.
  • Report cites that swastikas and homophobic slurs were part of the graffiti but it turns out it there were homophobic slurs but no swastikas.

Your response was:

It's an unconfirmed rumor being reported as fact. We are better than this.

That response sweeps up all of the report and appears you are saying it's all just rumors. Perhaps that was not your intent, but you could acknowledge that it is easily read that way.

Or you could just keep doubling down on being technically correct or whatever.

So credit to you for posting a link.  However, no credit to you for not being explicit about what was rumor.  A casual reader might have assumed he did neither, but like you said, those darn FACTS...

You're getting way too caught up in the weeds.

Doesn't matter if what he did was homophopic or anti-semitic.  It's repulsive and disgusting, either way.

And, even if the message was homophopic - rather than anti-semitic - one could reasonably assume that the location they chose was not random.  It's a pretty prominent building...with a large tent outside of it...and is clearly marked as being the "Jewish Resource Center."  It's also just a few buildings down from Michigan Hillel...and a few blocks from Chabad House of Ann Arbor.

He and his accomplice are captured on film;  there's no question they did what they are accused of doing.

But if you want to die on the "unconfirmed" hill (literally and figuratively, as the Jewish Resource Center is on Hill St.), go ahead.

I'm not disputing that they are shitty people who did a shitty thing that deserves major consequences. But swastikas take this story into a whole other level.

And I guess I've lived long enough to have seen far too many "reasonable assumptions" that turned out to be way off. I'm simply saying we just don't know.
