Shane Ryan (a Grantland CBB writer) predicts Michigan will beat IU by double digits
Title pretty much says it all. He has the game ranked as the #1 game of the weekend. Link? Link:

EDIT: In the name of accuracy, I should note that I discovered he is not a CBB writer per se, but he has a daily feature that discusses any manner of things sports related, fwiw.

Nice. I think I predicted an 11 point win for Michigan in the "predict the score to win stuff" thread the other day. I like this "Shane Ryan" character.

He seems a bit overly optmistic...

Underly Pessimistic

Gosh, I hate your face

...considering he's a meth head.

This guy knows

Maybe he meant then. As in, that cot smokes more meth, then he does. He smokes it after the cat.

Boo. I thought "then" worked just fine. Ryan smokes more meth and then the poster does too.

If we don't win by double digits we know where to take our angry mob.

I've sent the info to the Ann Arbor Torch & Pitchfork Co.

The Refs go all Cameron there.
You have to win by 10 to win by 1.

i hate this argument. explain to me how it matters at all that completely different sets of people didn't play well in a particular location.
February 1st, 2013 at 3:04 PM ^
A lot of the same people on the same court last year and we played pretty well, lost a close one and outperformed the Kenpom score by a good margin, that bit of history seems way more relevant than the fact the Fab Five always lost in Bloomington
February 1st, 2013 at 3:07 PM ^
but IU still gets 95% of the 50-50 calls.

Balderdash.

I often read Shane Ryan's "Hardcourt Shuffle" piece, which I believe is bi-weekly. He has been claiming Indiana is overrated all season long, so this prediction is unsurprising to me. I won't complain if he's right though
February 1st, 2013 at 2:17 PM ^
If this team goes in and wins by double digits...holy hell. A win like that in Assembly Hall will only make NOT making the NCG (at least Final Four) even more depressing.
February 2nd, 2013 at 12:18 AM ^
So should Wisconsin go to the Final Four? They won in Bloomington two weeks ago.

IU - UM comparison that looks pretty favorable for UM.

I can literally see this game going from a double-digit Indiana win to a double-digit Michigan win. I've never been quite this uncertain about a game. I think that Indiana has to get the edge by a couple points, but the game should come down to the final minutes. Here's to hoping we're on the good side of things.

Well shit, we'd better not lose then. That would be embarrassing.
February 1st, 2013 at 4:12 PM ^
YOu guys are absolutely stoned. No chance in hell UM wins by double digits why? There is no home cookin this side of Cameron Indoor like that at Assembly Hall. Every marginal charge will favor IU, every marginal foul will favor IU. Indiana will be allowed to play aggressive D with the refs in their pocket, while UM will be fearful of ticky tack fouls all night.
Michigan will be lucky to win this game, not because IU is better, but because they will be playing 5 vs 8.

It's all good, but the guy lost me when he talked about Burke carving up Yogi Ferrell, or Christian Watford, or Jordan Hulls. Not surprising he's been wrong about the Hoosiers all year if he thinks Watford is a guard.

February 1st, 2013 at 6:13 PM ^
Well then... I will eat my crow and give my apologies to the author, but the prospect of Watford on Burke isn't very intimidating, and I doubt Crean does the same this year with M being a much bigger team.
February 1st, 2013 at 4:37 PM ^
"I'm not just expecting a Wolverines win; I'm expecting the Michigan perimeter to dominate. And I'm expecting Burke to carve up Yogi Ferrell or Christian Watford, or, God forbid, Jordan Hulls. And I'm expecting Beilein, an excellent game coach, to take Tom Crean to school. " - from the article
I would say that, if Michigan gets into a rhythm and can dictate the pace to some degree, then nothing is impossible certainly. That's what the teams fortunate enough to have beaten the Hoosier have been able to do successfully for long stretches as it takes them away from the boards and keeps them off the free throw line.
The line right now seems to be Indiana by 4.5 or 5 depending on whose site you visit. Ryan's is an intriguing prediction because, if Massey's site is to be believed, then the odds of Michigan by 10 would sit at 3.3%. Then again, this team can do the improbable well too.
February 1st, 2013 at 5:10 PM ^
and will be dominate the whole game.
February 1st, 2013 at 5:55 PM ^
Assembly hall is a snake pit for opponents, it makes me sick how favorable the calls the Hoosiers get at home.
When Playing the Hoosiers in Bloomington, other teams could be called hosed.

The slow start at OSU still haunts me. We didn't react well, and this is a better in an environment at least as hostile an environment. The officiating is a concern as well. If we win this one, it speaks volumes about our team.
