Semi OT: Some sweet CFB helmet concepts (but the Michigan one is bad)
A creative design firm redesigned the helmets of a few iconic college football programs and IMO did a fantastic job with a lot of them. I'm not generally impressed with these remixes, but this round was pretty good with the exception of ours, which looks a lot like Missouri's. Obviously the best can't be topped (there's clearly no improving on the winged helmet) but for some of the others I think they are actually a decent uppgrade.
What do you guys think?

Edit: I agree with all of you that the Michigan one is bad, I just put it there for reference.

The design is the Hail and Unite of football helmets.

I literally had to choke back vomit when I saw the Michigan one.

So just getting bigger version of school lettering and pasting them onto helmets is what passes for "creative" these days?
Yuck.
The only good ones are LSU, Duke and Arkansas.

It's official. The internet literally has a gif/jpeg for every situation.

Actually, I like Minnesota's and Stanford's.
February 23rd, 2015 at 4:11 PM ^
It definitely works for some of them, but that doesn't mean it's creative.

I actually like the Longhorn on the front of the helmet.
But yeah, lots of these are just bigger logos...
February 23rd, 2015 at 5:19 PM ^
Agreed, the Longhorn helmet is probably the best, but there aren't many more that are pleasing to look at. Arkansas and maybe LSU and ASU.

on the Tennessee helmet

Did the same with NFL helmets last week:
February 23rd, 2015 at 10:05 PM ^
They took the best NFL helmets (Eagles) and made a mockery of them... Steelers, Chargers and Jets aren't bad though.
Rest are garbage.

Michigan one sucks, but some of the other concepts do look good IMO

No wings? No way.

Stop. Reinventing. The. Wheel.
Tossing out home uniforms and our *classic* helmets in favor of marketing stunts is a relic of an era now gone.
February 23rd, 2015 at 3:44 PM ^
It looks like Missouri's to me as well. I'm fine with Uniformz to an extent, but you have to blend "swag" with tradition. This abandons that in favor of swag (and bad swag at that).
EDIT: Whoever did the Georgia Bulldogs' helmet should be fired. That's just awful. It's like somebody had an OK concept (let's make the facemask the dog's ferocious mouth!) and then refused to give up when it became apparent that the concept WOULD NOT WORK.
February 23rd, 2015 at 3:38 PM ^
It become pretty apparent that the "new design" is just placing their logo on the helmet and having their team colors on the facemask.
February 23rd, 2015 at 5:17 PM ^
That's exactly right. I looks like they just fed school colors and a logo into a computer and pushed "go". Then they went to lunch.
February 23rd, 2015 at 10:55 PM ^
the part where they told the computer to upside the logo just big enough to make sure it doesn't fit on the helmet. Because that is "so hype".
February 23rd, 2015 at 3:39 PM ^
Could be interesting as a "practice helmet". The lacrosse team uses practice helmets, and gets a new design each year. The winged helmet is only for special occassions such as game days.
February 23rd, 2015 at 3:39 PM ^
I like alternate uniforms, but don't EVER take away the winged helmets. PERIOD.

I have no idea who downvoted WD, but I downvoted you for asking.

Such as Texas, Arkansas and others because there is a tie to the original helmet.
How the HELL does one do even an artistic thought of a Michigan helmet without putting wings on it? So really, we have a University of Memphis helmet with "yellow" and blue.
Others aren't really changed such as Nebraska's. What the crap is going on with Tennessee's? A dog on the side? It's an alternate mascot logo.

Actually, I was shocked Oregon hadn't used this one already. Not to worry, of course - Phil Knight has seen this site already, I assume, and someone is already creating the necessary mold to make this a reality. All the while, he's kicking himself that he couldn't figure that one out first.
As for ours, I am simply glad it is someone's concept. I personally don't share the same view, that's all. I will put it politely.
Also, Oklahoma State's....I laughed, sorry.
February 23rd, 2015 at 6:37 PM ^
Oregon's actually looks toned down from some of the things they have already done.

Did you notice whose helmet is missing from the list? Go take another look to understand why the RCMB folks are NOT up in arms about helmet changes like we are. Sparty continues to be an afterthought.

I still can't believe DB said that...

I didn't see one helmet that I thought looked good. I also can't wait until the fauxbonfiber (fake carbon fiber. Yes, I did just invent that word) fad is dead too. So sick of seeing it on everything. What made most of these designs horrible, was all they did was take the school logo and enalrge it so it wraped around the helmet.
Also, know your damn audience, why would anyone in there right mind use any shade of gray, silver or chrome on a Michigan helmet. I didn't see any maize or blue on Ohio State's helmet.
But they did use lens flare brushes, those always make shit look great. /s

I love a lot of those (along with almost every concept NFL helmet), but not the M helmet simply because it is already the best in sports.

I hope they adopt it!

judging by the inexplicable star...or maybe its the helmet they wear if they play on Christmas day?
a handful were okay, like florida's and BYU. most of the rest, meh.
