Harbaugh hasn't been able to figure out who the best QB is in-game since 2017. Glad the guys got a win, but I just hope it doesn't save his job. I cannot stand to watch this staff bumblefuck their way through another season.

Matt Campbell has 27 losses in his few years as Iowa St. Head Coach.

Here are a few facts,

Last year USC fans were calling for Matt Rhule and Dave Aranda to be their HC,

They are a combined 4 - 12 this year in their new gigs.

a few years ago the hot names were Chip Kelly and Tom Herman they are a combined 38 -36 and that is at resource heavy UCLA and Texas.

The fact is, every program hires a "hot assistant" or the "hot group of 5" coach, and is somehow surprised when they get the same result as every other program. Some coaches have a good year or even a good few years. Rarely does the hot new coach end up the next Urban Meyer or Nick Saban.

It turns out if you want an Urban Meyer or Nick Saban you have to actually be willing to pay an insane sum and hire them.

FWIW, josh perry, one of Urban's most popular players at OSU indicated the other day that he thinks Urban is for sale atm, but he needs: 10-12m per year, a blank check for assistants, and total control of everything including overhauling and building new facilities. So you are looking at about a 200 million dollar purchase when it is all over.

If you want Urban Meyer results... that's the Urban Meyer price.

Agreed, it is mystifying to me that they thought Milton is better than McNamara and McCaffrey and that's why Dylan said the hell with this crap and up and quit when it wouldn't have cost him any eligibility at all, that by itself should tell you a lot right there .

Milton has a strong arm obviously but quarterbacking is so much more than just that. Cade directed the guys, sped them up when he needed to, looked organized, threw quick and crisp and accurate passes and seemed to pump up everyone on the team.

How Harbaugh didn't start him just pisses me off, we would have put that game away early and cruised to victory. We scored 35 points from the 4 minute mark of the 2nd QT to the end of regulation, we would have scored over 50 points and given up something like 24 had Cade started.

Harbaugh's decision making is very concerning, he bugs the hell out of me.

Meyer said the qualities he looks for most in a QB, are toughness, intelligence, competitive spirit, leadership and the ability to extend plays. He said you can have all the talent in the world but it means nothing without those qualities.

I like Milton. I think he's a great teammate. I love that he was cheering for  McNamara (remember Forcier?) after he was pulled. I don't know about his other qualities but we know that leadership was always an issue.

I'm just not sure he has the required non-measurables that Cade seems to have.

Were you not watching the Army game last year?  Or M00N?  Or Akron?  There have been worse victories in the last 20 years.

I would argue that this victory gives some hope: the team was down 0-17 with no indication of competitiveness and injuries further worsening things.  Cade came in a brought a spark - he didn't get us back in the game by himself, but the offense was no longer moribund.  The offense and defense both rallied and earned this win... and the confidence it entails.

This doesn't mean we avoid a losing season.  The team still has problems and this is still Rutgers (albeit perhaps the best or so Rutgers since they joined the big ten).  But, this feels like they're starting to turn things around.  An important step.

You need to look a bit deeper into what's been happening - especially on the offense.  Part of the reason for the lack of rhythm was that there was not much consistency in execution.  The play calling did not really change much from game to game this season (including today), but Cade was an improvement in completions and sheer pocket awareness (look how he was able to check down and otherwise avoid negative plays).  Milton seems a good player and team leader, but he doesn't seem to have these aspects down as well.

You could see how the team's attitude and body language changed over the game - and for the better.  As I've already said, it may be too late to save a winning season, but it's not too late to salvage the team.

Besides, would you rather have them just up and quit because of the losses so far?  What kind of lesson does that impact to the players wrt to sports and life in general?

The entire reason why Cade succeeds is his awareness. He is a short, slow, weak armed kid who is a damn good football player who has some fire in him. He throws an accurate, catchable ball on both short and deep throws. He will throw some ints against good team because his velocity is weak. He sees blitzes, he sees coverage, he is not afraid to let to try and make plays..love what he has shown. It's criminal he will never have a career here that he should have, because the coaches are garbage. He might be allowed to finish the 3 games left this year but after that they will just give the job to JJ next year because of his physical ability.

The difference is that the Illinois 2010 game was two teams that were at their effective upper limit (which was not good) just trying to outlast each other.

Today, UM was in full gear to lose to Rutgers (and badly)... but then improved.  If Cade had started today, we probably win in regulation easily.  Had Cade started the season... at least we probably beat MSU and maybe Indiana.

Rutgers sucked 4 years ago. They're sucked every year since. 4 years ago Michigan beat them 78-0. We just had to fight for our lives to win tonight. What the fuck happened in 4 years?

1.  Veteran team with depth in 2016; very young team and no depth in 2020

2. DL absolutely mauled their OL in 2016; not tonight

3. Peppers changed the game in one play (UM offense did nothing in 1st Q) and sparked the O.

4. Speight was Cade with multiple short fields.

Harbaugh should certainly have the roster and system in place by now so 1 and 2 are equal.

[email protected] Cade saved the coaches' asses today. Let Warde know that this shit coaching job is ridiculous and you won't buy another ticket if Harbaugh is still coach next year. He apparently doesn't know this based on reporting. I never contacted the AD regarding rich rod or hoke because they clearly understood what the problem was.

What a disgrace that it took 3 OT and a missed field goal to come away with a victory from a team with 5 Big ten caliber players. All this does is prove that a coaching change is immediate.

Nothing about this game changes the fact that Harbaugh is not making the right decisions, both from a coaching and personnel standpoint. Nothing about this game changes the fact that he needs to move on. Nothing. Glad Cade performed like a real QB. Still, too little, too late for JH.

Harbaugh needs to go pretty confident I can copy & paste this every week.

Highly doubt we'll win any other games this year...how does this coaching staff cash their checks with the product, or lack thereof, they are putting out?

My “favorite” call was Cade up the middle on 3rd and 3 in the first overtime. ?‍♂️

Also, under center maybe when you have two cracks at the goal line from the 1?  IDK, just seems like shotgun and getting the ball 2-3 yards back is just making it tougher on yourself.
