|2 days 21 hours ago||Talk about buttering up the refs||
Think the home team got the calls in the second half after filling the officials' bellies with Beef From Heaven?
I'm sure our coach got ideas...

"So what do you say, Coach? We have steak sandwiches at halftime."
"Is that right? Got any whole milk to wash it down?"
"Sure, we can scare some up."
"Um, wait a minute. This steak sandwich, what are we talking about here? Because if it's that steak-ums crap..."
"No, Coach, only tri-tip. We cook it by..."
"Stop. I'm in."

DPJ is a top prospect. I am sure that the Sparty assistants knew he was coming and had the boosters set aside a couch just for DPJ to ignite with the help of a few cute girls.
|4 days 12 hours ago||Heh||
I even saw a link suggesting Les Miles.
FWIW, I clicked away immediately.

THIS is the game that gets us ready for MSU. We have to improve this week to do well next week and beyond.
Or some sort of coachspeak like that
|4 days 12 hours ago||JH teams are relentless||
You never get the impression that they are ever coasting. They do not ease up. His teams are always working hard and tring to improve. That's why they improve as the year goes on.

Avoid the rush
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Don't forget||
Rutgers got yappy in the tunnel last year at half-time. JH laid the wood on, going for 2 when already up by 25. Oh, that go-for-two chart.
He has no love for them. We will win with cruelty.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Probably||
... considering his contract will have expired. There won't be any options available as far as i know. I can't imagine they bring him back if he doesn't get them in next year.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Pride of Hamtramck||
He still gets back here now and then. Stops at many of the same establishments and sees locals that he grew up with. He's just a nice, approachable, modest guy.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||How insane||
JH landing the best players from NJ just reflects the reality that Rutgers football is garbage. Why would anyone with options want to go to a school that never has won, doesn't win now and isn't going to win in the future?
i could understand if they hated JH because of him going for two (to expand the lead to 27 points) and then continuing the annihlation into the second half in last year's game.... even though Rutgers had it coming with their chirping in the tunnel in spite of being down 19 at the half. That would make more sense than hating JH for recruiting NJ kids.

They're ALL perfect for THAT!

They're ALL perfect for THAT!
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Um||
I'd say that preventing potential danger to the teams and all people attending qualifies as "absolutely necessary".
Besides, if the game gets delayed or suspended because of hte weather, then ESPN2 is screwed into showing some other game anyhow.
i know they and the unversiies want to capture big, fat ratings from the NJ/NY markets but forcing fans to sit in and players to play in a hurricane is crazy.

It warms my heart so when I see us run the ball effectively against an opponent who knows that we are going to run the ball.

You heard it here first. Unless someone else guessed the score before I did.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||well-trained reporters||
it was a dull presser but, not trying to be snarky, but what else can you ask him about that he will actually talk about? The reporters know that he shuts down when they ask certain questions.
Based on his previous performances, JH is going to shut down questions about injuries ("they're working through something, getting better and we we don't know yet, it's early in the week"), about concerns/problem areas on different units ("we are never satisfied or happy with anything. Every day, we work hard to get better in every phase of the game"), and about the upcoming opponent ("they are a very good opponent and we will work as hard as possible to win")
We won, the team played pretty well and there weren't any unusual plays or calls to ask him about, so it is what it is. All pressers can't be gems, especially when the coach doesn't want to talk a lot.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||They have been trained||
Trained by JH. You've read transcripts from his past pressers. JH is good at not answering questions he doesn't want to answer. He never answers questions about "areas of concern" or things that he might be "worried about" other than to say we are going to improve in every phase of the game as fast as we can. The reporters know that's what they are going to get. Plus they won the game and there weren't any glaring coaching decisions to try to nail him about.
I'm not at all trying to be snarky but what what did you think they should have asked him?
|5 weeks 6 hours ago||What surprises me||
I'm surprised at how many of the other fight songs have lyrics that bother to dog their opponents right in the song. (MSU "See, their team is weakening", Illinois calling out Princeton and Wisconsin, Alabama trashing Georgia and GA Tech).
Give me a good old fight song where we don't care who the opponent is.
We're the leaders, We're the best. Go sing your little songs, we don't care.
|5 weeks 8 hours ago||But||
Don't you still require the obligatory 10-minute rest at the end?
Plus, I'd think that it would be equally easy to manage a large bunch of steaks provided you, as the cook, committed to using one method or another. Am I wrong?
|5 weeks 8 hours ago||Admittedly no expert here||
But when you get to the end, when it's time to char the steak, take it off the grill and cover it, open up all the burners, not just to high, but to the widest open possible "light the grill" setting and let the temperature climb as much as it will. The slap it back on and hope for the best.
In this method, considering you are using ribeyes, what with their larger fat pockets, flareups are your friend. Don't dare squirt water on them. Let 'em char.
|5 weeks 8 hours ago||It's not even being smart||
What is the point of a depth chart in an age where so many guys rotate in and out situationally? Look at the film and figure it out.
Besides, there's no rule that says that the first guys that you list on a depth chart are the ones that you have to put on the field to start or substitute with. The game has changed since the custom of exchanging charts began.
|5 weeks 8 hours ago||Big assumption there||
Nobody read the whole thing through. Who cares?
Besides, when it comes to a sense of humor, I consider myself a goddamn scream. Others disagree.
Most people consider themselves funnier than they are. It's ok. 3:30 Saturday... and especially 7 PM Saturday, nobody will care. You sure won't.
|5 weeks 8 hours ago||Eeeeasy||
There must be SOME lowly myrmidon inside their athletic department who spent a few hours looking up characters, and who would have otherwise been busy trying to figure out how many hot dog vendors to set up at a swim meet.
Dude is going to be telling his great-grandkids 40 years from now about his outrageous sense of humor and yeah the grandkids are going to roll their eyes because he's told them the story 25 times before.
In the long run, who cares? No big deal. We don't gve them a chart, why should they give us one? JH is right; we all have film.
|5 weeks 8 hours ago||"Whatever"||
That seems to be his attitude. Let them have all the fun they want before the game. Yuk it up.
We will work our asses off and have fun after the game. And they will have a long flight home.

|6 weeks 5 days ago||Good and well-coached||
If you look at all the kids that played in this game, you would think there would be SOME mistakes. When even the scrubs are playing hard, mistake-free football, that tells you they are well-coached.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Football as religion||
I had an anthropology class with Prof. Kottak in the 70's. He used to go off on this long screed about the cultural significance of football. He used to talk about it being sort of religious in the rituals involving attending the game.the rewards given the virtuous, the war-like armor worn by the contestants, especially to the extent that they emphasize sexually desirable traits, the ritual repeated nature of the pre- and post-game rituals. I have a link below to some more sedate stuff.
As an undergrad, my first reaction was that the guy was crazy or high. As time goes on and I see how much stays the same, I start to to wonder.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||They have to ask||
Seriously, if 3 guys aren't there, nobody is supposed to ask? Ask yourself if it were a rival's program, you wouldn't want to know?
I mean, I trust JH to deal with whatever it is the right way, but someone had to ask. And I hope they follow up as time goes on, at the end of the presser, I hope.

I haven't read anything yet that says that it's going to happen.
