Remarkable recent even requires homage to excellent MGoBlog article

In the most-excellent and brilliantly written Opponent Watch 2022: Preview, Part 1, the author refers to last year's Big10 Championship, stating:

"Iowa… was Iowa. They Iowa’d so goddamn hard that it is impossible to imagine anything Iowaing harder."

Well, I think they did it.  Although it was unimaginable, last Saturday, by winning with a final score of 7-3, composed of 2 safeties and a field goal, it seems that Iowa Iowa'd harder even than the previously established high-water mark of Iowaing.

I read this title at least 5 times and the summary another 2-3 before I realized it should say “event” in the title instead of “even”.

EDIT: The only thing more confusing was seeing a headline after the game stating Iowa’s defense outscored the offense in a 7-3 game that included no pick-6’s or scoop & scores… until I realized there were 2 safeties involved. Certainly pinnacle Iowa.

I'd hate to have set the lines for Iowa early in the season. They lay an egg in their non-conference pretty often, either playing an appallingly close game against a cupcake or outright losing to one.

Remember that 2016 Iowa team? They clobbered Iowa State 42-3, and we all remember what happened in Kinnick in November of that year.

But they also lost to North Dakota State that year.

As putrescent as Iowa looks right now, I assume they will have two touchdowns worth of complete crap lined up for us in four weeks.  We should never fall for Labor Day Iowa or Michigan State.

I'm going to be on this crusade all season long - does any really think that Iowa is going to score 35 points on Michigan?

Now, Iowa has a pretty good defense - they're fundamentally sound, good with technique, and have some decent players.  They run a continuous cover-2 zone with capable LBs underneath.  But that is ALL.  THEY.  DO.  Not a single player on that defense is good enough to start for Michigan's defense today.  Considering what Michigan's offense did to them in December, who here believes that plain Jane vanilla 2-high crap is going to keep Michigan from scoring ~35?

Offensively ... Ohh man, do I even need to say anything about Steven Petras?  Who here - show of hands - thinks Iowa is a threat to score 35?  C'mon, don't be shy...

Yeah, we all know shit happens and that every team has a dud at some point each year.  Kinnick Curse, and all that...  I think the Kinnick Curse happens when a good team with some marginal frayed ends goes in worried about the Kinnick Curse.  When they play into Iowa's hands by making the punter a primary strategy.  Do not make the punter a strategic part of the game!

All Michigan has to do is what teams like Alabama and Georgia do against teams like Iowa - run their offense and not worry about what Iowa wants.  Iowa cannot keep up - they don't have the players, scheme, coaching, or mindset to score 35 in a high scoring, seemingly defenseless affair.  But I do think that Michigan's coaching staff has turned that corner...

I think Jack Campbell would probably start on our defense but that’s about it. Phil Parker runs a great defense year after year.

Petras should not be starting at QB for any D1 program. He is just awful. Brian Ferentz commits malpractice as an OC. I can’t believe the AD doesn’t step in and offer Kirk an ultimatum.

Iowa looks worse than the team we beat in Indy but Kinnick and that D always gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Don’t turn the ball over. Don’t fair catch punts inside the five.  And run your offense with confidence and we should be ok.

Both games featured 2 safeties and 2 FGs (not one FG, as OP indicates).

The PSU game immediately came to mind for me in the aftermath of the Iowa-SDSU game. Remember that Iowa also gave PSU the finger in that game by taking an intentional safety and making it 6-4 b/c they wanted to get their offense off the field and make it more difficult for PSU to score - ain't no way they were going to punt from there and give PSU a short field. They opted for the safety, kicked off to PSU, and PSU promptly fubar'ed it and game over.

With Ferentz's son coaching the offense, they might as well punt the ball every time they are on offense. How does that guy have a job is still beyond me.

Gonna step out on this low, sturdy limb here - you know, the one we attach a tire swing to - and say that there are no other QBs on that roster good enough to unseat the veteran starter Petras.  Further, I doubt there are any in the recruiting pipeline (as they say) that would take his job as a freshman.  The halcyon days of winning the B1G West are behind Iowa for another 4-5 years, as is Kirk's MO.

That once every4-5 year team Iowa always happened last year, when Petras was the QB.  It was never going anywhere beyond the West crown.  Perhaps that the karma Kirk has to pay for chasing Rudddock?

That was not football, not sure what it was.

The Iowa coaches should be hanging their heads in shame for inflicting that mess on college football fans, especially Iowa fans.

The stat that Iowa leads fbs with 6 wins in games punting 8 or more times with the 2nd place team at 2 wins since 2020 is the most glorious thing I’ve seen on the interwebs in a long time

I know you're kidding, but the people winning the war weren't involved in this production but were in uniform.  Mel Brooks, Neil Simon come to mind and their shit is solid.

A couple other entertainers who went through some SHIT in the war include Charles Durning (landed at Omaha, 3 Purple Hearts and had to kill a German who had stabbed him by bashing his head in with a rock) and Eddie Albert (disobeyed orders at Tarawa to make several trips to rescue 40+ wounded Marines bobbing in 4 feet of water while he and his boat were under HEAVY machine gun fire).

My dad was in it (ETO, 3rd Army) and I developed an over-the-top interest in the subject, so sorry for the tangent.

One thing is for sure. Teams that are having issues tend to find a way to bring their A game when playing Michigan. If Iowa limps into the Michigan game, you can bet they will be up to showing they have one left in the chamber. Michigan will need to bring their A game to Iowa and, hopefully, put a similar beat down on Iowa as it did during the B1G championship game.

And here's to hoping Michigan is the sleeper team of 2022 that shocks the world and avenges it's loss to George and bashes them on their way to winning the NC.

I made a list a few years ago documenting the number of bad to meh teams who played out of their minds against Michigan and then played like utter dog sh*t the very next week against crap teams.  The list got to be so long that I forced myself to stop…because it was angering me so much.

In 2016, Iowa lost to a BAD Minnesota team the week before our game with them.

If Iowa loses 42-0 the week before playing us, it will do nothing to ease my nerves about playing at Kinnick.

I mistyped "even" instead of "event", and this message board has no edit feature for initial posts.

The first poster pointed that out in a well-intentioned and heroic (but unfortunately ultimately unsuccessful) effort to save you from confusion.

By the way, all the knowledgeable people here know that the original post was not about kissing ass but about overtaking ass.
