Recruit Reaction from those in attendance for BYU Game?

Submitted by gvsujulius on

I looked through the forum and was unable to find any mention of how the recruits in attenance felt about their visits.

Anyone have any information?

Kemp had a great time. Most likely to be next commit.

Gary had fun as well. Going to take his officials.

RB Taylor from GA is also likely to be in the class of '17.

Kareem could be swayed from his Bama pledge if pressed but coaches arent really making him a priority as of right now.

This is purely my opinion based on how the staff has reacted with Clark, etc. but I'm not sure this staff likes pulling out all the stops for a kid and then having the kid go a different direction.

Again only my opinion but if you show a kid all you can to try to convince him Michigan is the best place for him and he chooses another place to commit then it would be difficult to put that kid on the top of the priority list again. They may still chase him, but he just isn't on the very top of the list right now.

Kareem changed his mind just before his announcement. I think it was reported that he told our staff he was committing here. That's not typical of recruits you're trying to flip.

I think the biggest issue is space. How many players can you prioritize at this point? I think the OVs gives us a good indication of who they are. Kemp sounds like a good bet to take Kareem's spot.

It also might have to do with Carlo Kemp's interest in Michigan.  If the staff likes Kemp just as much (or more) at this point, then they'll take him before the flakey flippy kid who is committed to another school.

Kemp and Kareem are the same position and about the same size, so with the numbers crunch we have, it's unlikely they take both.

but Harbaugh really seems to want Connor Murphy, and from what I've seen and heard he's got a really good shot at getting him if he can get him on campus, and he and Kareem are both SDE targets(Kemp is being recruited per himself for the BUCK position).  So It appears as if they will continue to pursue Kareem until they find out whether or not they can get Murphy, at which point they'll either stop pursuing(if they can land Murphy), or turn up the heat on him(if Murphy goes somewhere else).  Most people seem to think that Kareem will not end up at 'Bama, though, so he seems to be ripe for the picking if UM really wants him.

Harbaugh is great but the bulk of that credit has to go to Hoke and his staff. We've had great D-lines under him since year 1. Guys just developed there (unlike every other position on the team). The fact that Harbaugh walks in with a 2-deep full of starter-quality guys means Harbaugh was left in a great spot by Hoke

Our visiting recruits have an awesome time experiencing the campus and meeting with coaches/professors, most of the time.. I can only imagine that throwing in a dominant performance by both the offense and defense (at least in the first half for O) would add an extra layer of "AMAZEBALLS" to the overall experience. Not to mention the Big House atmosphere that we had. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they really enjoyed the experience.

Gary and 17 LB Drew Singleton had a really good time, I know that much. They obviously loved the defense and coming from PC as well, watching Peppers out there does a lot for them.

I'm sure Kemp had a good time as well, he was already a strong M lean though with deep connections to Mattison. He's pretty much a lock.

I saw Gary, Singleton, Kemp, Hamilton etc all at halftime. They were all smiling ear to ear and Gary had a ton of people coming up to talk to him and take pictures. I also saw them getting involved with the wave during the game. Judging on appearances they looked as if they were having a blast.

Between the perfect weather and our D having it's best game in ten years, along with having Jeter there, and his fellow high schooler (Peppers) out on the field, and Harbaugh, to go along with all of the other standard reasons why it doesn't get better than Michigan (academics, stadium, most wins, tradition, uniforms, etc) that is about the best possible presentation Michigan could possibly hope for to entice the nation's #1 recruit to Go Blue.

I wonder if Harbaugh pulled Gary aside and had him take a look at Ryan Glasgow as an example of how the Michigan environment with the new staff can really help a kid maximize his potential.  Glasgow is now officially a BEAST, and we will miss him next year.
