Very nice reminds me when I went away to a football camp as a middle schooler for two weeks and when i came back my parents had given me a bigger room in the basement and made it all about my michigan fandom. Glad he made a michigan craddle for your son so he grows up to be an amzing wolverine fan

We now have two grandchildren (age 3 and six months). It all makes life so much more fun and rewarding. Unfortunately, they are in Laguna Beach so trips are long.
This kid will understand "Go Blue" moreso than most.

With the Maize & Blue crib, I'd start socking away gold ingots like whoa in order to pay for his University of Michigan education:
2014:
In-state tuition: $14K/yr
Out of state tuition: $40K/yr
2032: Assuming 5% increase each year since 2014
In-state tuition: $70K/yr ?

Yeah - tuition is crazy. I sat down with my financial advisor right after my first son was born. Using University of Michigan out-of-state tuition as the example, he said that if tuition continued to increase at the rate it has for the last 20 years, I would need to put away just over $1,900 a month from the day he was born until the day he graduates from high school in order to have enough. And that's just for one kid.
So, yeah. Tuition increases will need to slow down if that's going to happen. Because I'm not saving $3,800 a month for college right now.
College would not be worth it at that point. It's barely worth it now unless you get some great scholarships. I really think the way society pushes college these days is not good and I hope more kids are steered into trade schools and apprenticeships in the future, but that's for another discussion.
So maybe what every newborn needs is not a Michigan cradle, but a 529 Plan.
Or maybe college has been underpriced for a long time, and the market is correcting itself. Think about it - almost everyone goes to college, or tries to. Demand is obviously very high. With all of these price increases over the last handful of years, I would guess that college attendance has not been impacted by it at all. For the strong majority of jobs in the US, a college degree is required. I'm not surprised that colleges are capitalizing on that.
There's more people attending college than ever because the availability of student loans. Hence why the cost keeps going up and hence why a college degree is not worth as much as it once was. It's very hard to get a job now compared to 20 years ago even with a college degree.
Makes more sense to do an apprenticeship and have no debt than go $120,000 dollars in debt for no guaranteed job and since most salaries haven't increased the way college costs have.
I feel like I would have been further along career wise taking a 2 year technical degree with certs then getting my bachelors and masters with night school.
I did get my masters in night school later 1/2 paid for but still.
Maybe I just got screwed by two companies going under/bought out and stuck in same role for 10 years though.
from a long time parent. I have two daughters - one is a U-M graduate and the other is at U-M and will graduate very soon. I'm so proud of both of them and you will soon experience this as well. Go Blue!!!

But seriously congrats! How excited are you to have a little you running around? Major congrats to you and your wife! The journey is fantastic, but it races by. So be sure to enjoy the little things they do each day. Give your son a hearty "Go Blue" for us.

My unsolicited advice? Take a million pictures and don't be ashamed. Also, write everything down. In your sleep deprived state you will be unable to remember even the simplest things. I still can't and my youngest is almost 3. Oh, and have fun! You will never get to experience the joy and terror of your first again.
Congratulations on the new addition! Great to see the indoctrination start early. My daughter was born the day before Michigan upset msu in East Lansing in 2005, so her 2nd day on earth was spent watching Michigan football winning against a rival with daddy.
Also, technically that's a cradle, not a crib. Just sayin'... ;)
